Do you have a dog who can chase the ball for hours and never seems to get tired? Or maybe walking just doesn't seem like enough! Then breed specific enrichment sessions may benefit them πΆ. These involve me working with the dog to find an activity they enjoy while working their brain and improving their focus as well as exercising them.
Activities include;
βBasic gundog games- learning to play fetch with more attention to the human. As opposed to just throwing the ball, this activity works the dogs brain and helps them developed impulse control. It is also better for their joints than classic fetch.
βBasic agility games- learning to go over small jumps and poles. They will have to listen to the handler to know what jump they must go for next!
βFlirt pole- Terriers and other breeds with a high prey drive especially love this activity. Their need to chase is satisfied by chasing a toy on a stick. They will learn Impulse control over time by recalling away from the toy or waiting before being told to go.
βRunning- some dogs such as huskies, labs, spaniels and collies do enjoy playing other games. However, nothing beats a good 30 minute run! Lots of dogs love to chase a ball, but this can damage their joints and raise their stress hormones if overdone. Running or jogging is a good way to exercise the dog without causing stress to their body and mind.
The first few sessions will involve me getting to know the dog and trying different activities. Once we have found an activity they like, we will develop on it. For dogs who do several sessions a week, we may do one run a week to relax them. These will be available at 9.15 am and 2.45 pm Monday to Friday. They are recommended for 2-3 times per week. They are Β£15 per 30 minute session and available in Westhill, Countesswells, Bieldside and Cults. Dogs with poor recall will either be kept on a longline or I can occasionally hire a secure dog field for a small extra amount.
