Happy 7th Birthday to Autumn. 🥳
Today she brought along her favourite treats and shared them with all her friends on her walks today. 💜
TTouch Tuesday
Today’s TTouch Tip is to Slow Down!
We are all guilty of rushing about. 🥺
We look at the clock and think we have time to squeeze in a dog walk, so we rush to pick up the lead, dress our dog quickly with their collar/lead, we underestimate how that feels for our dog plus the loud snapping noise right next to their ears must be so uncomfortable. 😩
Next we stride out the door, walking briskly, trying to cover as much ground as possible to justify to ourselves that we have gave out dog a good walk. 🏃♀️🐕🦺
We also tend to move quickly doing our chores round about our dog 🐶
And we reach out quickly and scruff the tops of their head. 🐶
One of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do is Slow Down. 😳
Not just on my walk with Amber but in how I handle her, learning to stop and exhale before touching her or moving when I am beside her has been an amazing eye opener. 😳
Slowing down my treat delivery and softening my body while interacting with her has changed how she reacts drastically. 😳
But it is hard to change my habitual habit of doing things quickly, but if I am going to ask Amber to change the habitual habits that she has learnt then I owe it to her to try myself. 🧐
Try it yourself, when sitting relaxing at night, notice your dog’s react if you get up quickly. Their reaction may not be obvious, they may momentarily hold their breath or lick their lips or start itching that part in their body. You may never have noticed before that your dog does this as you move. ☺️
Then try taking a breath and exhaling, then move softly and slower and notice. ☺️
While out walking your dog on the lead and they start to pull, try exhaling and soften you knees, your footstep, you shoulder, arm and hand and notice. ☺️
You can post your findings below. ⬇️
Remember your dog might be in that habitual habit and may need time to get used to you moving softly and slower so give it time and don’t judge too
