Sensory Sunday

Sensory Sunday is becoming increasingly popular and there are already limited spaces for this Sunday.
A lot of dogs have returned and each time they come back to Alba Dogs, they are more confident than the time before.

So what is Sensory Sunday all about?

🫶🏻It is an opportunity for your dog to come to a safe space where there are no other dogs and they can be free to explore.

🐾The room is set up with different stations of snuffle mats of different textures, different textures of surfaces to lick sticky food from, different sized cups and bowls for them to put their nose into and discover there are treats in them, bean bags and tiny snuffles to move around with their nose, an assortment of different textures on the floor to walk over or step over.

🐶This gives your dog an low impact exercise that puts no pressure on joints and muscles which means that any dog of any age or any physical ability can enjoy Sendory Sunday

What are the benefits of coming along with your dog to Sendory Sunday?

😍It gives you the chance to sit back and enjoy watching your dog have fun, and you can have a relaxing cuppa while doing so.
It gives your dog a sensory experience that lowers adrenaline levels, activates their seeking systems which gives them a feeling of safety.

What do you bring along?

🦴Your dog’s favourite treats and something sticky for them to lick.

Do you need to book?

👍Yes you do, there are allocated time slots of 30 minutes you book and pay in advance.

Venue?

😊Alba Dogs is the room at the front of Grampian Pet Services, Bridge of Don, the room with all the windows, you enter through the glass door to the front.

I love a Thursday night when Foxy comes to visit! She is so expressive in her communication and gets so much out of coming to Alba Dogs for her reset. It also gives her guardian and I a chance to put the kettle on and sit back and enjoy watching her with a nice cuppa. 💞

Odin finds interacting with people and dogs difficult. He is lovely with his guardians and loves his dog Walker who he has trust with. When he comes to Alba Dogs to take part in Sensory Sunday, it is his time to enjoy exploring in a safe space without wearing any equipment, it also allows his guardian to enjoy spending time with him without being on the look out for other dogs coming into his space.
First time he came he was still nervous, now he feels safe and can explore to the full and have a nice experience.
He is a gorgeous boy 💙

Fireworks night is now about 3 weeks away!

How prepared are you?

It’s never too late to help a dog with noise sensitivities. For the dog, startle barking and getting a scare at noises they don’t expect can be debilitating and they can pair that scary sound to being afraid to go outside for a walk or being in a particular part of the house.

This can also be distressing for the guardian, give them a sense of hopelessness in being able to help their dog enjoy the simple things in life that can be detrimental to their well-being.

At Alba Dogs we can explore different bodywork, engage in confidence giving exercises and strengthen your connection to help with the difficult things in life like scary noises.

I work on a one to one basis using kind, gentle techniques that improves emotional, physical and mental balance. This is important because it is when your dog feels out of balance emotionally, physically and mentally that it effects how they react and behave.

Once you learn these techniques, you have them in your toolbox for life, not only can you use what you have learnt on the dog you have now, but any future dogs you may share you life with.

Axel is still a fairly young dog, he loves interaction with people but not dogs so much.
He enjoyed having the freedom to explore in a safe space at Sensory Sunday. He’s a lucky boy because his guardian is always looking for ways to improve his life and made some very good observations in Axel’s posture without making any judgments and is now going to try some TTouch bodywork.
Axel was a very loving, happy boy. 💙💫

Dash! What a cutie he is and a very quick learner which can be a good thing and a bad. A) he learns quickly b) it’s not always a good behaviour he learns 😳 but with a great family, who want to do their very best for Dash, so he can be a family member who joins in with family outings, who are open to learning how Dash may perceive our fast paced world and putting in a lot of work to support him to have the best life ever, he is a very lucky dog.
I’m sure Dash will repay his family with bucket loads of love ❤️
Dash has already made a lot of progress 😍

The good thing about Sensory Sunday is that any dog can enjoy the experience, no matter what age, or physical ability.

Cockapoo puppy Teddy came to Sensory Sunday this week and he had an absolute ball!

He was a really confident pup who took everything in his stride. I think I fell in love. 💙

Luna enjoying exploring at Sensory Sunday, Alba Dogs

Luna explored everything in the room, then where the equipment was stored and finally she tried out the seat I was sitting on 😄

She was in a very inquisitive mood on Sunday, previously when she came to Sensory Sunday, she needed a little support from her guardians, Luna is a lot more confident in herself these days.

What a joy it was to watch her curiously explore 💞

Monday Motivation

It can be all too easy to focus on the problems we are experiencing with our dogs. After all we are programmed to focus on the negatives before we can acknowledge any positives.
It’s called our negativity bias and it is how we survived as a species in prehistoric times.

By changing our conscious attention to look at the positives we experience with our dogs we may be able to balance the asymmetry of our negativity bias.

Being self-aware of the special moments you have together can make a huge difference to your relationship with your dog, It could be as simple as admiring the quality of your dogs coat, the loving way he looks at you with their soft eyes or the cuddles you enjoy together on the sofa.

Let’s fill the comments with all the things you love ❤️ about your dog 🐶

Thank you to Motivational Quotes page for the post.

Sensory Sunday

Sensory Sunday was a creation from my ACE training and from inspiration from Puzzle Dog.

My intention is to give any dog of any size, age or physical ability to be in a safe space and be completely free to engage in novel items by sniffing, licking and touching different textures with their tongue, experiencing new feelings in their whiskers and different sensations on their paws as they explore the room.

Sensory Sunday sessions last 30 minutes and in which time you can sit back and enjoy a cuppa while your dog has fun, releasing tension, lowering adrenaline levels during a low impact exercise that is gently exercising all their muscles without any pressure on joints or tendons, muscles.

Bring along your dog’s favourite treats and something sticky for them to lick off of different surfaces.

Only one dog in the room at one time.

When you arrive, come into the room with your treats first so you can load up the stations. That saves your dog eating everything as quickly as you are laying out. Then go get your dog, lock the outside door so it is safe, and take off any harnesses, collars and let them be free.

Your dog’s session is videoed and sent to you in a few days and you get a 20% voucher to come back and either have a one to one, package of sessions or a workshop held by myself.

Booking and paying in advance is essiential.
Contact Pauline on the Alba Dogs page or email [email protected].

Cost is £12
Venue is at Alba Dogs, Grampian Pet Services, Bridge of Don.

I look forward to seeing both you and your dog 😊

So what does Amber and I get up to on a rainy day?
We do ACE Free Work of course!
I had set this FW up to give Amber a wide range of movement to help with flexibility through her body, a nice little low impact exercise for her 💕✨
