*** EDITED TO ADD: THE ROAD IS NOW CLOSED!!

****ROAD CLOSURE 19/03/24 - 22/03/24 (APPROX)*****

We have been informed by Aberdeenshire Council that there will be a temporary road closure of the A920 (Riverside Road) between Ulaw Hill and Wineburn from 19th March 2024 in order for essential drainage repairs to be completed. This will mean that visitors to the surgery who usually come through Ellon and along Riverside Road will have to take an alternate route to get to the surgery, coming back in towards Ellon from the opposite direction on the A920 in order to arrive at our usual access road.
We will be open as normal for the duration of the works, and we have been assured that access to the surgery will remain possible at all times. However visitors may need to seek an alternate route to avoid the road closure, and therefore may need to factor in a longer journey time when arriving for appointments.
We apologise for any inconvenience to our clients during the period of these roadworks, however unfortunately the circumstances are beyond our control. Please do not hesitate to call the surgery on 01358723420 if you are unsure which alternate route to take, and we will do our best to help direct you. Many thanks for your patience! πŸ™πŸ™

***Road closure - surgery open as usual***

Edited to add - we've just been informed that the road closure has been delayed and is now likely to begin on Thursday 14th March. Before then, access to the surgery will remain available from the Ellon side, although temporary traffic lights will be in operation. We will update again when the road closure is in place.

We have been informed by Aberdeenshire Council that there will be a temporary road closure of the A920 (Riverside Road) between Ulaw Hill and Wineburn next week in order for essential drainage repairs to be completed. This will mean that visitors to the surgery who usually come through Ellon and along Riverside Road will have to take an alternate route to get to the surgery, coming back in towards Ellon from the opposite direction on the A920 in order to arrive at our usual access road.

A BIG thank you to everyone for your patience. We have been badly let down by our phone/internet provider but we are working hard on an interim solution until they can resolve their error. In the meantime we are all still here albeit with one working phone and remembering what it was like with no internet! Thankfully at least the vets are still able to do their job without the use of this new fangled technology. Every cloud has a silver lining! Many thanks again, we appreciate you all.

***POLITE NOTICE***

For any of our clients with appointments at the surgery tomorrow after 9.30am - according to a short notice road closure announcement from Aberdeenshire Council (see notice below), the junction between South Road and Riverside Road in Ellon will be closed tomorrow between 9.30am and 7pm. This is the most direct route used by many of our clients to access the surgery, and therefore unfortunately is likely to cause some delays and inconvenience for which we can only apologise. Please allow extra time for travel to the clinic tomorrow as there will be diversions in place and heavier traffic than usual. We will be open as usual between 8.30am and 5.30pm. Many thanks πŸ™

A HEARTFELT THANK YOU, AND A ZERO TOLERANCE REMINDER (It’s long, please bear with us!)

We would like to take this opportunity to offer our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the vast, vast majority of our existing and prospective clients. You are an absolute pleasure to deal with and have a wonderful relationship with our staff, based on mutual kindness, respect and courtesy. We are grateful beyond words that you entrust us with the care of your beloved pets, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for this privilege. We appreciate all the patience and understanding you have shown during all the upheaval brought about by the Covid19 situation, as you respected and adapted to the measures we had to put in place to ensure we could continue to provide veterinary services throughout the pandemic and beyond.

However, we’re feeling rather saddened to have to report that we have had a few too many instances recently of unacceptable behaviour towards our team, in particular towards our amazing reception team at front of house. We understand that the last few years have been a challenging and stressful time for many people for a number of reasons, and we also recognise and empathise with the fact that emotions can run high when we are worried about poorly pets. Nonetheless we would implore anyone contacting our surgery to bear in mind that the person on the other end of the phone is also a human being who is working hard in often challenging circumstances to help you and your beloved pets as best they can.

Of particular note recently unfortunately has been a small but significant number of rude and aggressive phone calls from people who are not actually registered clients with our surgery, but who become frustrated and irate when we are unable to quickly assist them. For background, there is an ongoing recruitment crisis within the UK veterinary sector, with short staffing a critical issue now across many practices both locally and nationwide. We are in a very fortunate position that we have been able to ride out this storm as a family run, independent practice with a stable and experienced team. This in turn has led to the further fortunate position of us welcoming an unprecedented number of registrations from new clients throughout this year. To the point where we took the extraordinary decision to temporarily close our books to new client transfers over the recent summer period, as we wanted to ensure that we were able to prioritise and protect the levels of service that we offer our existing clients. We are now working our way through the resulting waiting list, which means there is still something of a small delay in processing new clients transferring to us. Whilst we understand that it must be extremely frustrating to have to wait once you’ve made the decision to transfer practices, we are so grateful to the vast majority of our prospective new clients for their patience and understanding. We look forward to welcoming you on board and getting to know you and your fur family!

We highly value our fantastic team here at Chris Humes Ellon Veterinary Surgeon, and it is very important to us that they are afforded respect and courtesy in the workplace. We would like to reiterate that we operate a zero tolerance policy towards demanding, abusive and threatening behaviour directed at any of our team members. As per guidelines set out by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the British Veterinary Association, any existing or prospective clients persisting in unacceptable behaviour towards our team will be advised to seek veterinary treatment elsewhere in future and removed from our books.

Please could we ask everyone to keep a wee eye out for Midnight here. He has been missing for a few weeks from Ellon. Midnight is black with a few white hairs on his chest. Neutered not chipped, may have jumped into a van or is possibly shut in somewhere. Lives in the Western Avenue area of Ellon. Many thanks πŸ™πŸ»
