Good tips 🐾
Willow is a cross Collie / Dalmatian and she certainly has a lot of the Collie quirky behaviours but one thing we think she has for her Dalmatian genes is she is hard of hearing 🥺 Willow would like to give you some tips on how to deal with a deaf / hard of hearing dog 🥰
Adaptations:
A deaf Dalmatian can live a full and happy life. Owners need to adapt their training, relying on visual cues and hand signals rather than auditory commands.
Safety:
A deaf dog needs to be kept in a safely enclosed yard and on a leash when outside, as they cannot hear hazards like approaching cars or other dangers.
Prevent startling:
Always approach a deaf dog where they can see you, and wake them gently with a light touch to the shoulder or by offering a treat.
Create a routine:
A predictable schedule will help your deaf dog feel secure and reduce anxiety.
Enrich their other senses:
Provide toys and activities that engage their heightened sense of smell and touch, such as puzzle toys and sniff games.
