Meet Jen! 🎭

Jen is one of our social and fundraising coordinators and has been in MLO since 2018. She is an Educational Psychologist in her final year of training and has been supporting schools and children during lockdown.

Jen loves music and in her spare time she enjoys writing and arranging songs 🎵 Her am-dram dream (am-dream?) is to one day see a musical she has written performed on stage! 🤩

Meet our Vice President, David 🎭

🎵Fighting for freedom, wherever there's trouble over Land and Sea and Air! G.I Dave is there!🎵

Hello everyone!

My name is David, and I just wanted to introduce myself as Monklands Light Opera's Vice President.

I've been a part of the club since 2016 and I've spent some time both on and off stage helping the club since then!

When I'm not with the club, I'm a Nightshift engineering technician (Sleep all day, party all night!) And soon I'll be back in the cockpit training for my helicopter licence!

There will be challenges ahead, but I know we will face them head on and beat them! The future is bright and we shall be able to celebrate together again soon! This I Command!

A message from our club president, Carrie 🎭

Hi guys!

Most of you will already know me, but for anyone who is new around here, welcome, my name is Carrie! I have been a member of MLO since I was 16. I was helping out at a show, that my dad was in, and really wanted to be a part of the club and quickly became one of the family!

I am the dance coach for MLO Youth and help support the production team 💃🏻 I have choreographed some of my own numbers in both MLO and MLO Youth shows.

Most of the club know me for being a tad crazy and doing bungee jumps to raise funds for our shows. However, this year I have decided to try and take on a different role, as president (don’t worry I’ll still be as crazy as before).

I am praying and hoping we can all reunite very soon, continue putting on amazing shows and making lots of memories together.

Carrie x

Hi MLO Youthers!

Our fab Social Co-ordinators Eve and Jen are in the process of organising a fun wee SHOWCASE event for Saturday 17th April!!!

Fancy getting involved? If you have an idea for an act - be it a song or a dance or a comedy routine or playing the banjo whilst balancing the cat on your head - get in touch and let me know!

You can put yourself forward for a showcase slot by messaging Rob Stewart via the MLO Youth page on either Facebook or Instagram.

I look forward to hearing from you all!
Rob

PS - If I get inundated with 100 different acts, itll be names drawn from a hat.
PPS - I do not recommend or encourage the balancing of cats or any household pets on your head whilst attempting to play any musical instruments. Its just asking for trouble!

Morning. I have sent the link for Annie (Saturday night) out to everyone who has requested it. Check messenger inboxes and let me know of there are any issues.

I now have my hands on the Saturday matinee footage and will get it uploaded and sent out later today. I will send this on to everyone who has already requested footage, so no need to ask again.

Have a happy Sunday!

Hey everyone.

My name is Rob Stewart (not Rod. Never Rod) and I just wanted to introduce myself as the the new MLO Youth Co-Ordinator.

I am a Drama teacher in South Lanarkshire Council, but previously taught at Coatbridge High School for 7 years. I loved working with the kids in this community and I am delighted to take up a post on the committee that allows me to once again give a little back to the young people of North Lanarkshire.

First thing Ive been working on is sorting out footage for a previous show. With the help of a few of the other committee members, I have managed to get hold of the recordings of "Annie" from a couple of years ago!

I am currently uploading this footage to a private link on Youtube. This will not be a searchable video, however if you or your child was a part of this show and you would like the link, please either comment below or send me a direct message and I'll make sure I get it to you.

I currently only have footage from the SATURDAY NIGHT performance, however I expect to get the rest of the recordings in the next few days. I will keep you posted when I do!

I look forward to seeing you all again very soon once all the madness subsides! Stay safe.

Hey everyone.
Hope you are all surviving our annual lockdown. Even though we are not yet able to come back together to sing, dance and socialise, we can still find lots of different ways to get involved in theatre and the arts.

The phenomenal Edinburgh Youth Theatre recently shared this fantastic opportunity to sign up for a masterclass/Q&A with the amazingly talented James McAvoy.

Obviously its an online event. Tickets are available through the link in their post. I think they are looking for a donation for tickets. They suggest £15 (a little steep) but it does also say that it is a suggested donation and that you simply pay what you can. This company is great for making sure young people have access to the arts.

I will definitely be tuning in. Let me know if anyone else does.

Stay safe.
Rob

💫James McAvoy Masterclass!! We are over the moon to announce that on Monday 1st February 8.00pm GMT, the wonderful will be joining for a live q&a about his successful and fascinating career.

Patron of EYT and all round great guy, don’t miss your chance to take part in the audience and ask James your questions. Ticket link below. Proceeds go towards supporting the well-being and creativity of young people in Edinburgh. Generously platform-hosted by . BSL interpreted ✨

I WILL BE BACK ON STAGE AGAIN!!

is Abingdon Theatre Company's campaign to share positivity and shine a light on the common goal of getting back to live theatre! They want to spread the message that performers will be on stage again, writers will create new work and patrons will visit theatres. New York City is alive and thriving and it will continue to be a creative hub for artists. Help continue their mission to inspire all artists and creatives by sharing your I Will statements and tagging . To join the campaign visit www.abingdontheatre.org/iwill

Through our campaign we want to bring our patrons, colleagues, friends and family together, in hope for the future. We will be sharing ‘I Will’ statements from performers, writers, producers and many more creatives in our ongoing mission to inspire all artists and prove once and for al...

What is As You Write It – Your Play on Stage?
At a time when we are all missing out on the magic of going to the theatre, The One Show, along with The Shakespeare North Playhouse is launching an exciting new playwriting competition, giving children and young people across the UK the opportunity to see their ideas come to life on stage. We hope this will help inspire the next generation of playwrights as well as encouraging a love of theatre and the arts in children and young people.

The competition is open to all children and young people aged between 7 and 16 years old. It opens for entries at 7pm on Thursday 25th June 2020. The deadline for entering the competition is just before midnight on Monday 31st August 2020.

All you need to enter is an idea for a play, a short description of up to four of the main characters and the first few opening lines. You’ll also need to tell us what having the opportunity to write your play and have it performed on stage would mean to you.

What is the prize?
From the ideas submitted, three finalists from each of the three categories will be chosen and announced on The One Show during autumn 2020. They will then have the opportunity to develop their ideas with professionals and write their final play.

A winner will be selected from each category based on their final play. Winners will be announced on The One Show in early 2021 and an excerpt from their play will be shown on the programme. The final three winners will receive a special award and have their play performed at The Shakespeare North Playhouse when it opens in 2022.
