Namaste! 🧘‍♂️
What a Wonderful Start to the Day!😀
We had a Members Morning Yoga Session run by the lovey Keira yesterday … and couldn’t have asked for a better setting than the Fishers Gin Distillery looking out to the Rising Sun over the Sea. 🌅🌊
A Delicious Breakfast of Pastries, Freshly cooked Bacon Sandwiches with Tea and Coffee followed with an excellent Opportunity to Network with other Members! 🥓🥐🫖☕️
Think we all felt Invigorated for the day ahead, thanks again to Andrew Christian, Ben and all at for the amazing setting and awesome Breakfast and Kiera for the Session! 🙏

Best Jubilee Window Competition! 🇬🇧

Judging took place this morning and these are the Results:

COMMERCIAL
1st - Sue Ryder
2nd - Orlando’s
3rd - MCT Electrical
Highly Recommended - O&C Butchers & Fleur

DOMESTIC
1st - The Lingards, 257 High Street
2nd - 8 Crabbe Street (next to Jubilee Hall)
3rd - 112 High Street

Mayor Peter Palmer and non-high street ABA committee member Gina were judges.

We particularly liked the effort everyone put in and liked that so many businesses took part. The judging was very difficult and we wished there were more places to award!

Pictured is the Mayor outside the winning Entries 👏

Sue Ryder won a Bottle of Limited Edition Jubilee Gin (just 300 made!) … they looked rather chuffed .. a great reward for all the effort the volunteers put in! 🍸🙌 … Many Thanks to Adnams for this Amazing Prize.

The Lingards Prize is a Meal for 4 with Prosecco 🍾 … a just reward for a great family effort! … Thanks very much to the The Brudenell Hotel for this Wonderful Prize!

Restart 2022! 🚀
Thanks once again to for hosting this ABA Meeting last week Thanks to all the fine producers who added to the amazing buffet spread and especially to all those that attended the meeting. 🙏
This was the first full meeting since the onset of Covid, and how fitting that it was at Fishers where we had the last meeting before the onset!
As a sign of the Restart 🚀 and new ABA we held the meeting in the Evening rather than the traditional breakfast, and invited selected non members to attend as well.
Around 30 minutes were spent reminding us all what the ABA is all about … the Committee talked about the 3 Pillars :
🚀Representation
🚀Information
🚀Collaboration
and how the association was key for the town and local area … before giving a tease of some of the monthly Events going forward!
A bottle of Gin was given by Andrew from Fishers as a thank you to Ella, departing the committee after 3 years
Everyone was then left to enjoy the magnificent buffet showcasing the amazing local produce, as well as the odd Gin! (Thanks To Ben the head distiller for running the Bar!)🍸😀
Heres to 2022 🥂

To Mask or not to Mask?

After July 19th the legal requirement to wear masks will be dropped … however Government Guidance is that “We expect and recommend people wear face coverings in crowded and enclosed spaces where you come into contact with people you don’t usually meet … “
England’s Chief Medical Officer agrees and adds “…. if someone else is feeling uncomfortable.”

The Shop Workers union says they should continue to be mandatory but Sainsbury’s says it will support individual choices!

So there appears to be a lot of conflicting advice and probably a lot of Businesses that are unsure how to proceed or what the consensus is.

So to help we thought we’d try to get some views from the local community.

So after the 19th July of you have a Client/Customer facing Business will you:

1)Request/Require Customers to still wear masks?
2)Request/Require Staff to wear masks?

and regardless of having a business will you

3)Wear a mask yourself where not required to do so? (e.g. in a shop)

Please be kind and polite with any responses.

We had the privilege of hosting our AGM at the fantastic Venue in Aldeburgh yesterday morning.
Our first meeting this year, and we look forward to getting together regularly ongoing.
This newly refurbished facility has a great Industrial feel, with one of Suffolk’s biggest TV screens with state of the art connectivity, a full size snooker table, darts, a lovely well stocked bar and coffee machine as well as c. 100 covers even with distancing … this will be one of Aldeburgh’s finest venues, they have great plans … imagine it might be busy this Tuesday! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇩🇪⚽️
Just by Kings Field and The Tesco Coop Roundabout, check it out!
Well we had a very busy session and a fuller transcript of what we talked about will be on the website and newsletter:
We covered the review of the year, talked about business opportunities, projects for Tourism, Parking, Energy, Xmas (!) and more, and of course procedural matters including the accounts and re-election of Officers …. and had a great chance to mingle afterwards with a coffee ☕️

Seems the Aldeburgh Street Barriers have hit the Front Page!

https://www.eadt.co.uk/news/aldeburgh-barriers-high-street-covid-measures-7817954

I think most people would agree that they're not very sightly .... but are they a necessary evil, or are they ineffective and causing too much harm to the Town's struggling Retail?

What's your opinion ... ?

a) Should be totally removed immediately or at least before Retail reopens on April 12

b) Should remain until restrictions are fully removed, hopefully by 21st June

c) Should be paired back to the Key Busy Points, and preferably be replaced by something more subtle and kept for an extended period

d) Something Else

Keep it nice and polite!

Good News!
15/01/2021

Good News!

We are now processing the payment of grants for local businesses provided by the Government in a response to new national Covid-19 restrictions.

A new one-off grant is available to businesses that have been asked to close in line with the new national restrictions which came into place on 5 January 2021.

This comes in addition to the Local Restrictions Support Grants (LRSG), which have been available since the national lockdown in November 2020, and the Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG), which is available for those businesses who may fall outside the eligibility of the LRSG scheme.

Furthermore, the Christmas Support Payment, consisting of a one-off payment of £1,000, is available for wet-led pubs that have been severely impacted over the Christmas period due to temporary local restrictions.

We will automatically make payments of all business grants to eligible businesses based on a successful LRSG or ARG application, including the new one-off payment and any subsequent additional support payments.

Therefore, you do not need to do anything if you have already successfully applied for the LRSG or ARG grant. However, if you haven’t yet, we’re encouraging eligible businesses to apply now at www.eastsuffolk.gov.uk/business/covid-19-business-grant-funding/
