What started off as a hobby has turned into a full blown passion and new business, for International Executive Coach, Angela Watson, a successful designer of learning experiences living in North Hampshi

re, UK. As a child, she grew up with her family dogs, but as an adult with a full time job she couldn’t have a dog of her own. When she hit 40, she escaped the 9-5 to start her own business and got her first golden retriever pup. This was the beginning of a grand passion for the breed and her eventual introduction to the world of UK Competitive Obedience in 2011. A lifelong learner, Angela has honed her craft through hours and hours of hands on practical training and knowledge in the field as a trainer, competitor, and a KC registered judge. With 30 years experience of leading, coaching, and educating people in business on refining their interpersonal skills, Angela's repertoire of developmental approaches has also fine tuned her approach to working with dogs and their owners, leading to her adding professional dog training to her services in 2023. She works with golden retrievers and Competitive Obedience dogs of all breeds, at her private, enclosed Paddock in Berkshire. In 2024, Angela joined the team at Pets On Sets as an animal handler and trainer for film and TV. Angela has a wellbeing focused approach to training dogs AND people in an encouraging and kind manner. She uses her understanding of the dog trainer's mind and reward based dog training to successfully dissolve training issues, and allow for dogs and humans to realise their full potential.

I recently finished a Six Week 121 online coaching assignment working with a 24 year old, beautiful soul, who lives in the Middle East. At the end of our time together I asked her to reflect on her insights and learnings and write them down in the form of a letter, as advice to another human being.

(I got this idea from one of my own coaches and I've passed it on to many of my own clients since).

I loved what she wrote. There's so much wisdom in her words...so with her kind permission...here's what she wrote...

Enjoy!

"Dear human being...

No pressure, it's okay to be. It's okay to speak. It's okay to be free.

Dear human being, your creator is the greatest, do you think I would create anything less than great? Forgive yourself for belittling something as great as you.

It's okay to feel there is nothing wrong with you, you don't have to fix yourself, you just have to let your soul shine through, because your soul knows the way to go.

Of course you'll have moments where you forget your true self, but your forgetfulness will never make you less than what you already are. Don't be afraid to fall because you'll always get back up, dear human being.

There is nothing wrong with you, no matter how much this world makes it seem like there is. Never believe that to be the truth because it's so far from what's actually True.

You never need to prove yourself. You never need to prove to anyone or anything that you're worthy.

Dear human being, it's okay to be exactly as you are with no restrictions, because that is what makes you the most beautiful.

Dear human being, love yourself and your life just as they are and savour every moment. You are blessed to be here and your existence is a blessing to the world.

Embrace your greatness."

This is my beautiful Golden Boy Jasper (aged 7) mellowing out on a hay bale at The Paddock today.

He's been on his annual winter break from Obedience training and competing which is doing him the world of good,

Today I started to ease him back in to training with a few exercises he knows well, a few short bursts of heelwork and lots of toy play and food throws.

In my experience, each dog has different energy levels plus different physical and emotional needs.

With some dogs, it can take a little longer to work them out, but patience, observation, and a lot of understanding goes a long way in earning trust and developing a strong bond with some of our quieter, less gregarious dogs.

There's no such thing as a 'one size fits all' approach when it comes to training dogs...or training people for that matter.
