A few of our clients have made us aware of a microchip scam that has been circulating recently.

An email will come from a company called PETCHIP and they will have all of the information that is registered on your chip, including the chip number and your name and contact information.

This is NOT a legitimate company or request.

If you receive one of these emails, please do not click on the link or provide any bank information and please report this to your microchip company.

Friendly reminder! As of 10th June, all cats in England must be microchipped.

If your kitty is over 20 weeks old, make sure they're microchipped by the deadline. You can get it done at your vet, local council, or a local rescue and rehoming centre. There might be a fee, but some vets offer free microchipping days – keep an eye out!

Please care & share…all our furry friends are so very precious…🐾

As we head into the summer and Wimbledon is on the horizon we think about how much our Pups love to chase a ball and tear off the skin of a tennis ball. Tennis balls are the epitome of a dog toy and most dogs can’t resist the rubbery chewiness and fuzzy texture. However, tennis and other chew balls are best used only under your close supervision because they can pose health risks for your dog.

The outer coating of a tennis ball is quite abrasive and can wear down a dog's teeth (called “blunting”), sometimes severely. After years of this kind of wear and tear, it may become possible to see tennis-ball shaped grooves on the inside surface of your dog's teeth.

This dental damage can be detrimental to your pets mouth health and lead to some costly dental treatment.

Although many catch and chew balls are labelled “indestructible,” a large, strong dog with a powerful jaw can split a ball in a matter of minutes, if not seconds, and those halves can be swallowed quite effortlessly. Sometimes, one-half – or possibly all – of the ball can get lodged in the back of their throats, causing a serious medical emergency, as your dog may not be able to breathe during the process.

The ball itself is not the only choking risk. Some dogs enjoy shredding the yellow-green fuzz that covers the tennis ball, but your dog isn’t able to digest the rubber or furry cover at all. Over time, these pieces can lead to choking hazards and intestinal blockages, creating a dangerous medical emergency that may require surgery to resolve.

If you want to let your dog play with any ball while also reducing the risks that they present, it is important to embrace safe practices:

Only use the ball for fetch and don’t leave it lying around the house for your dog to gnaw on all day.

Never allow your dog to play with a ball without your supervision.

Discard any ball that begins to show signs of wear and tear before it ultimately falls apart.

If you are concerned that you dog has destroyed a ball or toy and that they may have ingested parts please call for advice from one of our veterinary surgeons.
