At a recent meeting, we started talking about why we come networking, and why we love networking at BNI Century so much.

Here's what Gemma Giles from Staffordshire Network for Mental Health says:

"Until I came to Century, I thought that structured breakfast networking meetings were stuffy, suited and booted. I imagined people were there to talk about their business, but not necessarily to listen.

I'm not a 'structure' kind of person. I like talking to people, and enjoy the conversations, especially hearing the barriers people are learning to manoeuvre through. I connect better with stories and getting to know the person behind the company, so struggled with the idea of networking as I thought it was out of my comfort zone. Until I came to BNI Century...

What makes Century different for me is the people! Everyone in the group is your support system, your marketing team and your cheerleaders - both on the good busy weeks and the not-so-good quieter weeks. They motivate me to push myself, and also give me the great advice I need to help me succeed.

Every Friday, I’m excited to see them all, to find out what they have been up to, learn some useful advice and also see the amazing work being passed between us all.

It’s a tough world when your trying to start, grow or maintain a business - and sometimes it can be lonely. I don’t feel that anymore as I know I have a whole team behind me trying everything they can to help me achieve my goals. Thanks Team Century! 😍"

Fantastic atmosphere at our meeting yesterday at Druids Heath Golf Club led by our President Gemma Giles and Vice President Paul Deaville.

We had a great January as you can see from the stats in the picture!

Also from some of our pictures we are all there for a reason of growing our own businesses but we are one big happy family having fun along the way doing it and genuinely would do anything to help each other in any way.

Chloe Hawkins ACMA, CGMA of CH Accounting Solutions was voted to have done the best 60 seconds so she will get 2 minutes at next weeks meeting.

We also had a brilliant Education Slot by Neil Sargeant and 10 minutes from our Marketing guru Colette Bratton of the Small Business Equaliser.

We had 3 fabulous visitors and all said they really enjoyed the meeting and at least 2 are coming again next week when we are online.

Our chapter is on a mission to grow and we would love you to be part of it and as we have a one seat per profession policy if you join us as a member you will have no competition!! Last week, the brilliant Mo Bury, a Neurodiversity Coach, educated BNI Century members and guests on networking, from a neurodivergent perspective. One of our visitors said it was the best ed slot he'd ever seen in all his years of networking. So, we thought we'd share Mo's insights with you.

Navigating social situations can be difficult for neurodivergent individuals, especially when it comes to networking. As a coach specialising in neurodiversity training, Mo often hears from neurodivergent individuals who feel left out or misunderstood at networking events.

One common misconception is that making eye contact and shaking hands are universally accepted social norms. However, for some neurodivergent individuals, these actions can be overwhelming and uncomfortable. If you're unsure, look for nonverbal cues like avoidance or fidgeting that may signal discomfort.

If you'd like to introduce yourself, please try reaching out to them verbally first. Respectfully ask if they're comfortable with physical contact, like a handshake or hug, and let them lead the way. Remember that not everyone shows affection through physical touch, and that's okay! A friendly wave or nod can be just as welcoming.

These small steps can create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all neurodivergent individuals, helping to build stronger relationships together.

As today is #NationalStressAwarenessDay it seems fitting to pass today's spotlight over to Century member Gemma Giles of Staffordshire Network for Mental Health. SNFMH is a Lichfield-based charity supporting people with experience of mental illness and people at risk of mental ill health. https://www.snfmh.org/

Another frighteningly good meeting for #TeamCentury today, as for one day only we became a coven 🧙‍♀️🧙🧙‍♂️. With a witch at the helm, spookily bad poetry was shared in the 60 second round and referrals flew like bats round a graveyard 👻🪦 And as you'd expect from Team Century, we just couldn't resist the urge to dress up! Happy Halloween from all of us 🎃🤡👻

Time Management

Last week's Education slot focused on time management. Leo shared some fantastic tips with us. Undertake a time audit of what you do during the day - and be honest! Once you've discovered what's eating your time, prioritise the important stuff Work when you're at your most productive Split similar tasks into groups and 'batch' your time accordingly Is multi-tasking all it's cracked up to be? 60 Seconds In The Spotlight

Every week during the meeting, you will get 60 seconds to present your business to the room. How do you make yourself memorable? You might want to follow a theme, use a prop, write a poem - some brave souls have even taken to song! Whatever you decide to do, make sure you stand out for all the right reasons - it's good to be remembered!

Friday 12th February - Love Is In The Air

It was a Valentine's themed meeting today for BNI Century, and love was certainly in the air in abundance! We passed a staggering 53 referrals, heard some beautifully prepared love-themed 60 second pitches and had a very special visitor, Nick Dee from Local TV West Midlands (formerly Birmingham TV) who got a taste of BNI at its very best! Our 10 minute speaker this week was Paul Deaville of It Total Solutions. Paul talked us through his journey and how he came to start up on his own as well as the different services his company now offers. As Paul said, it reaches far beyond regular IT! Same time next week Centurions - have a fabulous week, and enjoy Valentine's weekend!
