Alexandria & District Community Dog Training Service

Alexandria & District Community Dog Training Service Our main aims are to establish & encourage social responsibility and enhance the general welfare of our community, by promoting responsible dog ownership.

As a recognised Scottish Charity (SCO 25483) our main aims are to establish & encourage social and community education within our sphere of influence by creating a greater awareness of environmental issues, improving social responsibility and enhancing the general welfare of our community. Founded in 1976 under the title of Alexandria & District Road Safety Dog Training Club the organisation arose

from a request by the Road Safety Training Officer for Strathclyde Regional Council. In 1981 through a contact in D.D.C. Planning Department the former D.H.S.S.building in Alexander Street, Alexandria, was identified. The building had been reduced to an unrentable derelict hulk, vandalised beyond description . Whilst it suggested a monumental task it was decided to go for it as our new location. At this stage the full realisation of the buildings potential fell into place, and its uniqueness in becoming Scotlandโ€™s and possibly the U.K.โ€™s first Community Dog Training Centre.

1985 saw the first direct education course designed at tackling the issue of responsible dog ownership. The introduction of the course highlighted that the main issues surrounding dogs was due more to a lack of awareness on the part of the owner rather than the dog itself. The training focused not on training the dog to be obedient, but with more emphasis on the owner to develop the skills required to be a responsible owner, resulting in the dogs being the benefactors of the work done with their owners. Since then the service has gone from Strength to Strength.

A&DCDTS would like to say a massive thank you to Angela, Anne, Paul & Neil from C.A.T.R.A. for the fantastic work they have completed in clearing years of overgrowth at our training centre, the difference is absolutely amazing. Thank you, seems so inadequate folks but we mean it sincerely, now we may be able to do some outdoor training.

Remembering today our much loved, respected, dedicated, hard working Director of Training William (Billy) Lang who sadly closed his eyes and was called home one year ago 08.06.23. Billy fought courageously against Mesothelioma Cancer for a number of years and was a total inspiration to other sufferers. Billy you are sorely missed, we speak about you often, sharing memories of dog training, presentation nights, nights out, dog obedience and agility demonstrations both close to home and further afield, happy memories we have to treasure forever.

๐Ÿ™ R I P BILLY YOU MAY BE GONE BUT CERTAINLY NOT FORGOTTEN ๐Ÿ™

Thinking about Billy's wife Joan, family and friends today.
With love and thanks from Trainers, Admin and all members and associates of A&DCDTS.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Billy Lang our Director of Training. Billy passed away on Thursday 08 June, he had been suffering from the horrendous disease โ€œMesothelioma Cancer for over five and a half years and was a total inspiration to anyone fighting it . Billy was until he took ill a stalwart in the dog training, would do anything for anyone, enjoyed a laugh, was always the life and soul of any social event we had, loved doing the dog demonstrations and obedience. You are sorely missed Billy. Our sincere condolences go to his wife Joan, daughter Yvonne, son-in-law George, daughter Tracy, son-in-law Alan and the apple of Billy's eye his grandson Aaron.
