Greetings, dear humans!

Though I'm speckled with grey, my spirit remains as lively as the first day I learned I liked humans, so very much. But just like the life of every new pup, my story begins with uncertainty! When I was young the world felt vast and intimidating. After being confused each time a littermate was taken, I was then taken, far away from the warmth and security of my mother. I was thrust into a bustling household and couldn't smell my way home. In time, I found a door in my dreaming, where I ran to my mother. My brothers and sisters still play with me there. One day, I will go to stay with them forever but right now I have to make sure my humans are OK because I love them too. They don't know how to come with me to the other place. I searched for the door for them but couldn't find it here.

While my humans where always kind. I remember the times when moments of confusion and fear filled my tiny body. I was feeling so alone and vulnerable. I remember the first time the toddler squealed and reached for me - was it joy or was it danger? I navigated the chaos amid the myriad of sounds that echoed through the house as their ever-watchful cat regarded me with scepticism. My humans, too, faced trials of their own. Between work, parenting and daily life they were tasked with caring for a puppy who didn't yet understand what was up and what was down. I often sensed their worries as they juggled responsibilities. It made me realise that their love, while abundant, sometimes needed guidance. It was clear a gentle approach was necessary.

My humans adopted kind ways of training me. They understood that I needed encouragement, not fear. Treats, praise and playtime became our language and that helped me blossom into the dog I was always meant to be. A routine was equally important. Regular feeding, exercise and snuggles created a rhythm that helped to anchor our lives together. I learned to anticipate the joy of our daily walks, the excitement of play and the comfort of my bedtime cuddles. My humans crafted a cosy space, just for me, complete with a soft bed and all my favourite toys. It became my sanctuary. A place where I would retreat to when the world felt overwhelming. They taught me basic commands like "Sit", "Wait" and "Here". With each successful attempt, I was rewarded with treats and affection. The toddler would clap which made me feel like his Champion!

They sought advice and read up on canine behaviour, learning to recognise my signals and meet my needs. Consistency and patience became the guiding principles, ensuring I felt secure as I adapted to my new life. Our walks transformed into cherished adventures where I could explore and meet new friends, human, canine and the feathered flyers too! After all these years, I still listen for them, in the "Hello" of the morning. And for a moment, as I'm waking, a blast of excitement meets my younger self with singing.

As the days turned into many months my confidence started to flourish. I began to settle in my new home with my new family and the insecurity began to fade. I laugh now at Cat, once aloof but who gradually accepted my presence, as we reached a truce, often sharing the same sunny spot in the garden! I miss Cat but I see her often, just for a moment, as I'm waking. I wonder does she sneak through the door after me? She was always following me about. She runs to meet me with my mother. I will ask her tomorrow.

Now, as I lie down in our favourite spot in the garden, I reflect on how far we've all come together. That journey from a bewildered pup to a beloved family member, was always paved with a whole lot of love. I became a loyal companion to the toddler, who grew from a tiny human into my bestest friend ever! He is so big now and looks nothing like I remember but I always know him. I learned that every member of my family had their unique way of expressing their love for me and I cherish each one of them.

Though I may just be a dog, to most. I've found my purpose in the bond I share with my human family. To all the humans reading this, remember that kindness is powerful, capable of transforming difficult challenges into success and it's going to be alright. With love, anything is possible. Even when a new beginning was not of our choosing; with love and kindness, it will lead to a life filled with joy.

I see the door again. "Wait", was it always here? Oh! "Hello Cat". I have to go now family but I will see you again in the morning, with a blast of excitement.

Separation Anxiety is when your puppy is panicked about your disappearance. It can really help to teach your puppy a 'departure cue' and start leaving the room your puppy is in; gradually working up to a few minutes and progress from there. We all like to be informed about what to expect so we can understand what is happening and feel comfortable about it. It's the same for your dog.

WE NOSE WHO YOU ARE because the pattern on the tip of a dog's nose extending down between the nostrils is unique and can be used as a biometric marker that identifies that individual. A polygonal pattern of hard cornified epidermis can be seen, more commonly termed beads. Canids (dogs and wolves) are not the only animal with an individual nose pattern of interlocking beads. Cats, cattle and deer also share bejewelled noses that humans find so adorable.

The Norwegian Lundehund is a very rare dog breed with impressive physical abilities. One of which is climbing. With six toes on each paw: Four point forward and the other two flex inward just like human thumbs! Making Norwegian Lundehunds expert rock climbers. For over 400 years this working breed was developed for the hunting of puffins and their eggs on inaccessible nesting places in caves and on cliffs. The decline in puffins due to over hunting resulted in low numbers of Lundehunds with increasing health issues due to inbreeding. By the 1960's this breed was in danger of extinction. Help for the Lundehund in the form of 'gene rescue' has been underway to make a diverse gene pool and ensure a healthy future for this well natured, super Spitz type.
