My love of SWD's began in 2006 with our first dog Paco who was a hard working, tenacious yet gentle boy. Paco taught me a great deal about the breed and still has me wrapped around his little finger today. At fifteen years old, Paco is now retired, enjoying the quieter life and focusing his energy on helping teach our little ones good manners & mischief. Over the years our pack has grown but all t

he dogs live in the house with us and have been raised as members of the family. I am extremely proud that they all have excellent temperaments and am passionate about allowing their individual characters develop in a relaxed, positive environment. The dogs are regularly worked to maintain the natural working ability of the breed and I attend shows with my husband Simon at every opportunity. Our dogs promote the very best of the breed with outstanding temperament & natural working ability. As a small breeding kennel we operate strictly under the Spanish Water Dog's Club Code of Ethics. Whilst we do occasionally have pups available, only the best homes are sought. Many of our pups go on to have long working careers whilst others excel in competition. We love to follow the progress of our pups and you can see some of the success stories in our 'Keeping in Touch' photo album.

Train for the situation; not in the situation.

One of the reasons (I think) that people sometimes come unstuck when they are working on problem behaviours is that they too often try to tackle the problem in the moment rather than ahead of time.

Ripley is a very big, very bouncy, very friendly dog who found it hard to contain himself when family came to visit and who was also overly interested in the new baby in the family. And while his exuberance is lovely his size makes it potentially problematic especially around a very young baby. Trying to tackle these problems in the moment was stressful for everyone and with Christmas fast approaching his family wanted help to make visits safer & less stressful for everyone.

So a few weeks ago we started working on two things –

• teaching Ripley how to switch off & settle on a mat
• creating a predictable pattern for admitting guests which reduced stress for his humans, helped avoid unwanted behaviours and made better choices easier

The groundwork was done ahead of time, under conditions where Ripley could get it right, was heavily reinforced and was practiced often to help both Ripley & his humans hone their skills.
