Our 2025 diary is now open so book in early to avoid disappointment.

Why we are different to some other boarding kennels:

We have a large fully enclosed paddock for your dog to enjoy some off lead time where they can sniff to their hearts content

Our dogs have access to their bedding area and to outside in their run all day so they aren’t cooped up inside .

Your dog can be exercised with dogs of similar activity levels or alone whichever you prefer . Your dogs safety and happiness comes first and we never just put a load of dogs together and hope for the best .

Every penny made from our boarding business goes to support our rescue dogs so not only are your dogs being cared for by staff committed to dog welfare but you’re giving something back at the same time.

Drop off times are 9am- 11am
Collection times are 2.30- 4.30pm
Cost is £20 per day.

We ask that all dogs coming to stay with us for both day care and over night boarding must be fully vaccinated including Kennel Cough. Kennel Cough isn't routinely given with yearly boosters so if you are unsure, please ask your vet specifically.
If your dog isn't up to date with all these vaccinations we will have to refuse them.

A part time vacancy has arisen to join our dedicated team of staff looking after our rescue dogs.

Our hours of operation are from 7am - 7pm 7 days a week.

Personal transportation is essential due to no public transport to and from the site.

Patterson’s Cottage Boarding Kennels – 5 Year Anniversary
This week marks the fifth anniversary of the day we took possession of Patterson’s Cottage and the kennels on the property at the side of the A1 at Charlton Mires. In 2018 the premises were a private boarding kennels, with space for 24 dogs, and we were a dog rescue charity with lots of dogs and no permanent kennels. It seemed like a good solution, and we knew that it would be a very steep learning curve to take on a loan and set up a business: we had no idea that two years of lockdown were around the corner!
Fortunately, with the support of the furlough scheme and the generosity of our supporters, we were able to survive the pandemic. Due to the commitment and knowledge of our staff we have established an excellent reputation and lots of repeat customers for our commercial boarding kennels. This, in turn, has enabled Northumberland Dog Rescue to continue to provide emergency homes for dogs in need and to work to find new, suitable homes for them. Many of our four-legged boarding customers started out “on the other side” as rescues – it is great to see them come back as happy dogs that have settled into their new families.
