✨SET YOURSELF UP FOR SUCCESS!✨

One of the most exciting parts of my job is when a client gets a new puppy! Gorgeous Takaya here is 12 weeks old and had her first short session with me this week - no treatment, just some basic palpation and range of movement assessment, including a bit of practice lifting up her legs in turn. As you can see, Takaya was very relaxed and took the whole process in her stride (and I was totally smitten 😂)! Getting dogs used to being handled in this way from a young age stands them in such good stead for any future vet/chiro/physio examinations.

I'm really passionate about making chiropractic a positive experience for every animal, and offer acclimatisation sessions for both puppies and dogs who may find the process a little overwhelming at first. Please get in touch for more information! 🐾

I spent a fantastic day learning about the osteopathic approach to canine diaphragm release this week. I absolutely love learning about different ways of thinking and discovering new tools to go in my 'toolkit', and can't wait to see the benefits these new techniques bring for my clients! 🐾

A really interesting illustration of growth plate closure in dogs - this is why moderation is so important when exercising young dogs, especially when it comes to repetitive, high impact activities!

Growth plate closure is such an important consideration when we are working our young dogs. This is a guide only, in my personal experience some growth plates can remain active until the dog is 2yrs old. Torque or twisting can cause damage to the growth plates. Find the distal radial epiphysis (wrist) this can remain active until 17 months or more ! Think about the concussive force this joint receives when the dog takes off and lands. Take care out there 😉

🐾 Well that's a wrap for 2024! 🐾

Wishing all of my wonderful clients a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2025! I've had an absolute blast working with you all this year and it's been such a privilege getting to help your animals - and a special thank you for all of the cups of tea this winter to warm my cold hands, it's been very much appreciated!

I look forward to catching up with everyone in the new year and will respond to any non-urgent messages when I'm back at work in January 😊

🐾BEFORE & AFTER🐾

Meet Tinks! 🐱

Tinks is a really great example of how just one chiropractic treatment can make a big difference, even in acute cases. Tinks started with a left hindlimb lameness towards the end of November. As is often the case with cats, we don’t actually know how he hurt himself – they do like to have their most dramatic accidents when no-one is watching, it seems! He was seen by a vet following his injury and was put on a course of pain relief, but his owner wanted to see whether chiropractic could help before putting 16-year old Tinks through more invasive investigations.*

The two videos below were taken a few days either side of Tinks’ first treatment. In the video on the left, you can see the extent of his lameness through the short, stuttering steps being taken with his left hindlimb and the lack of flexion in the joints of the limb. He is also carrying his tail markedly to the left hand side.

When I met Tinks for the first time, he was very sore and sensitive to touch over his lower back and hindquarters. Treatment was kept very light and gentle, partly due to the lack of formal veterinary diagnosis and partly out of consideration for what Tinks would be able to tolerate. Adjustments were limited to correcting a significant misalignment in the lumbar spine (lower back) and rebalancing the pelvis. We saw an immediate improvement post-treatment and the video on the right speaks for itself – his movement got SO much more free and fluid in the days following my visit. And the absolute icing on the cake, his owner has reported that he’s started purring once again! That sort of feedback makes my week 🥰

We’ve still got a long way to go to get Tinks moving well and feeling comfortable again, but we’re off to a great start! 🧡🤍

Many thanks to Tinks’ owner, for kindly giving me permission to share her videos.

*Chiropractic manipulation has been carried out in accordance with veterinary guidance, and I will always obtain veterinary consent before treating an animal.

🐾SIMBA🐾

I'm normally quite forgetful when it comes to remembering to take 'before and after' shots of my clients, but this case was too good to miss! I first started treating Simba the Rhodesian Ridgeback shortly after he had been diagnosed with mild hip dysplasia at around 18 months old. As his symptoms were not too severe, it was decided that his case could be treated conservatively with physical therapy.

Even though his case was comparatively mild, the 'before' photo on the left shows how abnormal gait patterns caused by dysfunction in Simba's hips led to significant postural changes, including a lateral curve through his spine (illustrated beautifully by the ridge of hair along Simba's back!)

McTimoney chiropractic adjustments were used to address misalignments through Simba's thoracic and lumbar spine, and to rebalance his pelvis and ribcage. This was combined with tailored aftercare advice, which included switching up which side of the handler Simba was being walked on (to avoid some of the repetitive movements which were embedding asymmetries).

The middle photo was taken during treatment two, and the photo on the right was taken at the end of Simba's third treatment, one month after I had first seen him. You can see just how much his posture has changed and his spine has straightened. So very satisfying! 🥰🐶
