☀️🦔 The weather forecast is looking very hot for the next few days. Please leave out a shallow dish of water in your garden to help our wildlife!
🦊 Our fox cubs have been progressing very well and have had an accommodation upgrade! This was them recently when they were first moved into their new outdoor enclosure. They were understandably a bit nervous being in a new space but they have settled in well. 🦊
🌼 We now have a second group of fox cubs at HART and so we find ourselves in need of some more Royal Canin Starter Mousse and and Royal Canin Baby Dog powdered milk to help feeding our fox cubs and other young mammals currently onsite. If you are able to help by donating these or other items please have a look at our Amazon Wishlist at the link below. Thank you!

🐰 A happy ending for some rabbits that had a traumatic ordeal. These rabbits, along with some ferrets, were initially found by police in a van that had been set on fire. The police took the animals to a local vet practice which then passed the rabbits on to HART. We can only speculate as to how the animals came to be in the burning van but we are glad the rabbits seemed to be unharmed. We kept the rabbits onsite briefly to ensure there were no delayed effects of the fire and smoke and then looked for a release site. Unfortunately as we had no idea where the rabbits had originally came from we had to find a suitable location to relocate them to. We found a release site with plenty of grass and vegetation for them to graze on and returned them to the wild, hopefully they are settling in to their new environment! 🐰
🐁 This little woodmouse was admitted after having an altercation with a cat. He was very bright and alert whilst in care and kept the team on their toes! After a course of antibiotics it was time for release 🐁
🐾 With the ever-worsening economic situation in the UK we have found that not only have we rescued a record number of animals this year so far, but our costs are going up at a time when income from donations has been decreasing. 🐀 We admitted these 4 young wood mice just over a week ago after the litter was disturbed. They have been moved to a large terrarium where we can test their nest making skills before release.

🐀 This adorable wood mouse pup is one of 4 we admitted yesterday after the litter was transfered from a local veterinary practice.
The behaviour you are seeing here is refered to as a "milk trance" and is often seen when an infant is enjoying their formula feed. The behaviour will disappear as soon as the animal is weaned.
It won't be long before these mice are completely independent. Their nest making skills will be put to the test before they are considered fit for release.
(Please note that wildlife is mostly lactose intolerant. A specialist formula is being used in this video)

🐀 This tiny wood mouse was found on a path yesterday and was swiftly brought in to us. On admission the mouse pup weighed only 4g and was found to be hypothermic and covered in fly eggs. It took a little while to stabilise him but today he is looking a lot brighter and was spotted enjoying some seeds.

🦔One of our current hedgehog casualties was having fresh food put into his enclosure...he could certainly smell it before he saw it!
We need your help to continue rescuing and rehabilitating British wildlife during the cost-of-living crisis, with all of our costs having increased at a time when donations are decreasing, we really need your help and support.

🐭 This wood mouse was admitted recently after being picked up by a cat.
The young female did very well in care and was released a week later.
When does a hedgehog need help?
🦔 Within the next month or so, HART will be caring for about 120 hedgehogs on site at any given time, most of them being young juveniles found struggling out in the day time with a heavy parasite burden, if we are to have a normal year.
This young female was admitted today after she was found out in the day. She weighs just 196g, but seems in rather good shape and we are hopeful for a full recovery.
⚠️ We have started to receive calls regarding when to pickup a hedgehog as winter approaches. Please follow the advice below:
When may a hedgehog need help?
-the hedgehog is out in the day
-the hedgehog is injured
-the hedgehog is wobbly as it walks
-the hedgehog is vocalising
-the hedgehog is laying down/flat out/"sunbathing"
-the hedgehog has flies on it
We would NOT advise to pick up hedgehogs that are:
-Bright, active and behaving normally at night, regardless of their apparent size
If in doubt please get in touch with your local rescue before picking up a hedgehog who is active and behaving normally at night. Only unwell, injured or orphaned hedgehogs should ever be picked up and taken to rescue

🐇 Our little leveret is doing well and now weighs over 200g. He is receiving 2 feeds a day, as is the norm in the wild, and will soon start nibbling on some of his fresh greens.🌿

You may remember the red kite admitted just a week after being found in the grill of a local ambulance.
After a few days in care the bird was given a clean bill of health and returned to the wild. He gave us a wonderful show before landing in an oak tree in the distance.
