🐦 Despite the colder weather, we are still admitting baby pigeons here at HART! Pigeons breed all year round which can be very problematic for the chicks born during the Winter months. Metabolic bone disease (MBD) is sadly something we see all to commonly in young pigeons admitted at this time of year. If caught early enough, MBD can be treated with the correct supplements and lighting.

🩷 We're currently in need of Royal Canin puppy mousse, Vetericyn wound spray, and small sealable bags. If you can help, please consider purchasing these much needed items off our Amazon wishlist. We're incredibly grateful for every donation we receive!

🐇 The most rewarding part of our work! This Leveret was recently released after being hand-reared by our team since only a few days old. Shortly after release, she hunkered down in the grass, exactly the sort of natural behaviour we want to see!

🦅 This Red Kite was brought into HART after crash landing in front of a member of the public into a river! We’re not too sure what happened prior to this, but he came to us very wet and with blood in his mouth. After a short stay and some treatment, we’re pleased to say he was released back to his territory!

🦅 This handsome bird is an adult male Kestrel. He came into HART after being found grounded and unable to fly. On admission to HART, we realised he had a large tick attached to his head which we quickly removed. Tick bites can be incredibly dangerous for birds! Thankfully, he’s responding well to treatment and we hope to have him back home again soon!

🦔 One of our wildlife carers Amy stumbled across a rescue of her own recently! This poor hedgehog had an elastic band stuck around her neck and she was incredibly lucky to have been found. Thankfully, Amy was able to remove the offending litter and there was no lasting damage. Litter entanglements like this can be fatal for our wildlife so please pick up litter and dispose of it when you are out and about!

🐭 This Wood Mouse pup is one of three being hand-reared by Lydia, one of our wildlife carers. Their nest was unfortunately disturbed and despite giving time and space for mum to return she sadly didn’t. Where possible, we try to give plenty opportunity with nest disturbances for the mother to return because wildlife always does better being raised by their own kind! These three are doing well under Lydia’s care and we’re hopeful they’ll open their eyes soon!
