Well my wife and I have taken on a new challenge having accepted a 9 week old GSD pup bitch named Ember. She is getting on well with our working cocker. They both play well together. Environmental socialisation is important so she is getting short gentle road walks introducing her to the street scenes, traffic , people other dogs on leads and of course cyclists.

A busy few months training with Inderbrook Dog Training Society at Shackleford Cricket Club. A great venue with lots of open space and nearby woodland, in inclement weather the Pavillion offers cover and the use of toilets and the kitchen. This venue offers opertunities to train outside and some indoor training. Over the next couple of weeks Good Citizen broze, silver and gold will be assessed to see if the dogs and handlers are ready to receive their certificates. Towards the end of April on the 26th a Friday I am running a Tracking Workshop with a colleague Simon Mallin. We only have a couple of spaces left. If interested please PM me. The better weather seems to be coming as well as longer days giving us more chances to train with our dogs .

Classes start again at Inderbrook Dog Training Society on Wednesdays at Shackleford and Elstead . We will cover from puppy through to Gold good citizen scheme awards, ring craft and much more. Remember your pets on New Year’s Eve ! Yes there will probably be Fireworks going off unexpected in your area near your home. Check all walks and exercise is completed early. If your dog is scheduled to go out late after feeding go outside with it just incase of that unexpected firework. Ensure the curtains are closed to obscure any flashes and leave the radio or TV on to help muffle any loud bangs and whistles for fireworks.

Just to let all my post followers know as well as still doing 121s i also assist with training at Inderbrook Dog Training society at Elstead and Shackleford just off the A3. General training and the Good Citizens Award for the Kennel Club covered. We will also help with problem dogs.

An interesting scent training session with Mary of Paws training. All those attending thoroughly enjoyed themselves as did the dogs that were introduced to this new exercise. I just had to share this photo of the youngest student with her Lab patiently waiting to start the training exercise.

Remember when walking your dog in hot weather we have shoes on they do not. Pavements especially tar-macadam is baking hot . Your dog may suffer burns to their paws! See attached photo.

ITS GRASS SEED TIME!!! its that time of the year that our pets can suffer from intrusive grass seeds either piercing the skin or entering natural orifice’s such as ears. Please carry out daily inspections to check that your dog is not in any discomfort caused by an intrusive grass seed. Some signs can be the shaking of the head vigorously (possible seed in lone of the ears) limping spear grass entering from the paw or under fleshy arm pits (the tops of the legs). I advise you to seek veterinary advice to ensure the seed is removed and causes no future infection.

This may help you to help your dog should it suffer or show signs of heat stroke. If symptoms are recognised and dealt with early enough it may save taking the dog to the Vets.
