Amersham Dog Training Club

Amersham Dog Training Club The Amersham Dog Training Club supports its members with all forms of basic dog obedience training and join in the fun. A Happy Place to be …. for over 50 years.

Our experienced trainers and assistants volunteer their skills, knowledge and expertise. They have been involved with training a variety of breeds including rescued dogs and are up to date with current dog training practice. We are very informal and would enjoy having you come to watch a class (without your dog), to see what we do, to chat to a few people and, if you decide, join us as a member ….

. We meet at Amersham Common Village Hall on Monday evenings. Do telephone us or email us to make contact or just call in. We are Kennel Club affiliated

The aim of International Dog Day is to encourage people to take care of these animals as they deserve a good life.

The official website of the event says, “Our mission is to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year and acknowledges family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort.”

On this day, let’s honour dogs as our loyal companions and help raise awareness about their needs

There’s still time to add your name to the list of those coming to our exciting Search Dogs Buckinghamshire demo and talk tomorrow Monday 12 August (free of charge).

We’re supporting this charity that assist the police and other Search and Rescue teams to look for and recover missing vulnerable adults and children.

They are routinely called upon to search for people with mental health problems, particularly those at risk of self-harm; the elderly; those living with conditions such as dementia; children; and persons with a learning disability.

We’re really looking forward to it!

With children and pets spending more time together over the summer holidays, it's super important to watch dogs closely and listen to their body language ⚠️

Dogs' stress signals often get misunderstood or missed, with some owners not realising their dog is unhappy until they growl, snap or even bite.

The canine ladder of communication is a useful guide, showing the different signals dogs show through their body language to communicate. As a dog gets more upset, their body language may change according to the steps on the ladder 🚦

It’s important to note that all dogs are different - not every dog will show every behaviour on the ladder and might not follow the same order.

[Visual description: An infographic explaining Kendal Shepherd’s ladder of communication and how to recognise stress in dogs by the signs they show in their body language. This is a traffic light system with red signals being the worst. Green signals are: Yawning, blinking, nose licking and turning their head away. Yellow signals are: Sitting and turning their body away, walking away, creeping and having their ears back. Orange signals are: Standing crouched, tail tucked, lying down with their belly exposed in a submissive way, stiffening up and staring. Red signals are: Growling, snapping and biting.]

We all love the sunshine and this BBQ weather, but let's make sure we keep our dogs cool.
And remember to never leave them in the car in this heat !

Dogs can’t cool themselves down as easily as we can as they’re unable to sweat like us. Instead, they mainly use panting to keep cool. Coupled with their thick fur (which is like wearing an insulated coat!), this can make them prone to overheating. 🌡️ It’s important to do all we can to keep our furry friends cool, to prevent serious illnesses such as heatstroke 🐶☀️

As the hot weather approaches, make sure you're ahead of the game with our top tips on how to keep your dog cool in summer. See the full guide here: http://pdsa.me/D4PQ

We would like to thank everybody for their very kind words. We have received so many messages via email or on our social media accounts. Margaret had helped so many dog owners create a very special bond with their dogs and inspired them to approach training as the fun and enriching activity that it is.

Margaret's funeral will be at noon on Thursday 25th May in the Parish Church of Chalfond St Giles. It will be followed by a private interment. Light refreshments will be offered after the Funeral Service at The Greyhound Inn Chalfont St Peter.
All will be very welcome.

All your kind messages will be passed on to Margaret's family.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our dear Margaret Rallings. Margaret was the Club’s membership secretary and Head trainer. She was totally committed to our Club and its core value of being a Happy place for dogs and owners.
Margaret had an in-depth knowledge of dog training and behaviour and welcomed dogs of all breeds, age and confidence to the Club.

Dear Margaret, we will miss your wisdom, advice and smile. We will be forever grateful for all you have done for our Club. May you rest in peace.

If you would like to send a card to Margaret’s family, please bring it to the Club on Monday 15th May after 6pm. Alternatively, please contact us on [email protected]
