We provide compassionate at home pet euthanasia in South/South West Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

We cover Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Bridgend, Cardiff & Rhondda Cynnon Taf, After having to say goodbye to our own family pet of 12 years, we firmly believe that there is no better place to say goodbye than in the comfort and well known surroundings of your own home. I understand the

importance of having the opportunity for home pet euthanasia following the experience of going through it myself. In 2022 our beloved family dog "Rita" suddenly took a very bad turn one afternoon in the garden. Following an overnight stay in intensive care at the vets, she lost control of her back legs and I knew that she was not going to get better. Even though the hospital she was treated in was amazing, I knew that she was uncomfortable and stressed in that environment. As I am a vet we were fortunate to be able to make the decision to bring her home to put to sleep. As soon as she was home in her own familiar surroundings, she stopped crying and was instantly relaxed and content. After we gave her a final meal of a chicken dinner, we then gathered as a family in the garden and all sat with her while saying goodbye. Even though it was a very difficult moment as a family, the comfort we had of being able to do this at home gave us some contentment. Pets are a huge part of our lives and I feel that a good life should also end with a goodbye that honours that love and the memories shared. Saying good bye is never easy, but I hope that our services can provide support to make it as easy and soothing as possible.

🌈Pet loss and children🌈

One of the concerns a lot of our clients have is trying to explain the process of losing a pet to their children 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Losing a pet is often a child's first experience with death and it can be difficult for many to understand ❤️

Not only with adults, but children may also feel a sense of loss, sadness and confusion that they're best friend will or is no longer here. As parents ourselves, when the time came to put to sleep our family dog, we decided to be open and transparent with our children. We explained to them that she was very poorly, but she would be having a little injection that would send her to heaven and she wouldn't be in pain anymore. Of course there are lots of questions such as "will she be able to come back?" or "can we go to heaven to visit her?", but we find that by being transparent and allowing them to grieve in their own way helps the process. In our children's eyes, heaven is exactly like the Disney film "Coco", so they're content thinking of her happy up in the sky 🌈🐶

It's very common in Western society to avoid talking about death, and the death of a pet should be overcome. Trying to forget the death of a loved one instead of remembering the love and memories does not assist in the grieving process. Children may grieve in various way and we should reassure them that their feelings are valid and it's ok to cry or worry. There are also several books available that may help in the explaining process such as I Miss You Every Day: A Children's Book About Pet Loss by Erika Larson or a pet memory workbook

👻🎃 Halloween 🎃👻

With Halloween only a couple of weeks away here are some pet safety tips to remember.....

🍬 Keep chocolates & sweet out of reach from furry mouths, these can be highly toxic for pets.

😴 Please be patient with your fur babies. Lots of door knocking/bell ringing/noise/strange constumes can confused and upset pets. It may be worth giving them a treat to disctract them and giving them space if they need it.

💅 If you're pets do not want to wear a costume, please respect this and don't force them into anything

With Guy Fawkes Night just around the corner, please remember that there is likely to be fireworks happening for a few evenings around that date 🎆🎇

Here are top tips to try and make the evening as smooth as possible....

🐕‍🦺 To avoid any scares try to keep your cats and dogs inside for the evening, walking dogs earlier and on a lead. If your dog will be going into the garden try and ensure that it is secure with no escape routes should they get spooked by a sudden noise. It is also worth ensuring that microchip details are up to date just in case they should go missing.

🛏 Creating a den for your pet may be beneficial for them, so they can hide and feel safe. This can easily be created with some bedding or blankets. We always find it helps our own pets by putting some music on the television or radio to drown out any loud bangs 🎆

🎼 Keep and eye out on Classic FM radio station as they usually have a segment dedicated to pet specific music to keep them calm

❤️ Try and remain calm yourself and follow the lead of your pet; if they want to be with you having a cuddle then that's fine but if they want to be alone in their bed then that's fine too

💉 If you know from past experience that your pet gets extremely distressed by fireworks, please visit your vet asap to ensure that you are allowing enough time to get any medication they may need

Many people tell us they feel an overwhelming sense of guilt for even considering putting their pet to sleep. This article helps explore the different range of emotions and circumstances of losing a pet, as well as learning to forgive 🐾❤️

WHY FORGIVENESS IS SO IMPORTANT TO THE GRIEVING PROCESS

Pet loss grief is deeply personal and can include an array of emotions and feelings such as anger, regret, guilt, sadness, and anxiety.

Wanting to apportion blame can be part of the grieving process, too.

It’s easy to get trapped in the mindset that someone or something must be to blame for your pet’s passing. Indeed, maybe a mistake was made, or with different information or resources, the outcome could have been different.

Unfortunately, focusing on who or what to blame can take you down a lonely and difficult path, and may keep you frozen in this difficult time. As harsh as it sounds, thinking about what could have been done differently won’t change the reality that your animal friend has gone.

We understand that this is difficult to accept.

This is why many bereavement experts believe that forgiveness is a vital component in learning to manage the difficult emotions associated with grief and find some peace moving forward.

We’ve talked about the importance of self-forgiveness in a different article, but here, we want to look at the idea of forgiveness more broadly. This might include forgiving your vet, a friend or family member or another of your pet’s caregivers, or even your pet themselves.

Very informative article for those who know that the time might be nearing for their pets and are trying to navigate through anticipatory grief🐾❤️

NEARING THE END: ANTICIPATORY PET LOSS GRIEF

If we’re lucky, our pets will live long and healthy lives but, sadly, the end must come eventually.

If you have a terminally ill or elderly pet, the grief can start a long time before you actually lose them. This is known as anticipatory grief and can bring its own particular pain and heartache.

We often get enquiries from our clients asking how to the process works on the day. Here is a quick guide on how a visit generally works. Please bear in mind all cases are individual so may differ from the below to meet your and your pets needs.......

When you have decided to book a visit, we will then come to your home. We will discuss and confirm your options again at your home and ask you to sign a form to consent to the euthanasia. When you feel you are ready, we begin by giving your pet a sedative injection. Once the sedative has been administered we will then step outside to give you some time privately to say goodbye to your pet peacefully as well as allowing time for the sedative to work. There is no rush and as many people/pets as you want can be present. Once the sedative has taken effect, and only when you are ready, they will then receive a second injection, allowing your pet to pass peacefully. Please note this whole process is not in any way painful or stressful for you pet. Following this, if you have chosen to have us arrange your cremation, we can then give you further time to say goodbye to your pet before leaving. We will then aim to return your pet home to you within 2 weeks🐾❤️

If you have any other questions or queries regarding our service then please don't hesitate to get in touch 🐾❤️
