Third successful hatch of the year.
These little Coturnix Quail are enjoying their clean brooder. They're approaching a week old and are starting to develop their wing feathers.
We will vent sex these birds at around 8/9 weeks. If you're interested in purchasing, please let us know.
We prefer 1 male to 8-10 females. We find this avoids over mating and keeps the quail calmer. It also doesn't decrease the fertility rate of the eggs.
Just caught this little one hatching. We love this time of year ❤️.
We have just had some beautiful Californian quail chicks hatch and more to come, which is very exciting. Coturnix quails only take 6 to 8 weeks to mature, Californian quail take 6 months! So unfortunately these little guys and girls wont be available for a little while.

Good morning!
These chicks are now heat free! 🙏
They will spend 2/3 days in this temporary brooder before making the journey to the outside.
I will need another 5 weeks before I can know their genders for sure.
If you're interested, I recommend 1 one male to 10 ten females. This is a personal preference from which I receive the best results. If you look at forums, they suggest 5/6 five/six females to 1/one male. I've found the females get over mated at this ratio, and become depressed. Over mating can lead to bleeding. If any game bird or poultry bird see blood, they instinctively want to peck at it, which will lead to death.
With 10/11 ten/eleven females in an enclosure with 1/one male, they will occasionally still lose their head feathers, but it rarely leads to skin damage. Also, I've had a 96% hatch rate from them so far.
Happy bird, happy egg. 😊
A really successful hatch and brood!
If anybody is interested in Quail chicks at point of lay, please let us know.
