Brilliant progress video sent in from Rufus’s owners @ameliafayecook & @_gregevans 4 days on from our Loose Lead Walking Workshop, training is being smashed! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great session with Rufus and his owners. We ditched the Canny Collar, introduced a slip collar and taught lead pressure before venturing out to proof the training. Plenty of work to do but what a great start, before and after about 30 mins apart!
My goal is to manufacture and sell quality hand made individually tailored dog food…this is the start of the journey!
Treats not working? Despite the nonsense spouted by some trainers, treats will not get you where you want to be. They’ll do a job to a point but if you want your dog to start working for you, build better engagement! Through play is always a good start. Give it a go…instead of just walking and throwing a ball with no purpose, play structured games using the ball. 👍🏻
Thought I’d join in on the fun 😂😂😂
Home Assessment with German Shepherd ‘Eyela’ Lots of pent up energy, reactive to dogs and poor lead walking. First things first, removing that awful Halti head collar, they DO NOT work. They mask a problem and don’t teach dogs a thing. Slip@lead on with lead pressure training. Walks 15 mins apart. 👏🏻
Tools or training?
I posted this on TikTok in response to an ad for a figure 8 lead.
Is your dog responding to training or the tool masking an issue??
Lots of my clients are shown this game, and lots are finding their dogs are becoming more engaged and are more fulfilled on walks. It’s a simple game that challenges your dog to find something you have thrown or hidden. Try it 🤷🏼♂️
Second Fox Red Lab this week. Very similar issues. Again, a bit of a reset and back to basics.
Second Fox Red Lab this week. Very similar issues. Little engagement and pulling on the lead.
This is just the assessment, we started some engagement work and changed the slip lead for a field slip and fitted it correctly and safely ready to teach lead pressure.
Lots of work to do and looking forward to progressing this pup.
Plenty of work to do but Reacher and Luna are well on their way. Heavy pullers on their harnesses. Switch up to a more appropriate form of lead communication and training.
