Winter is the perfect time to spot birds of prey!

πŸ‘€ Look for Kestrels hovering over rough grassland and wild field edges, and don't forget to check fence posts and the tops of telegraph poles.

🌳 With fewer leaves on the trees, keep an eye out for perching Buzzards and Red Kites.

πŸ“Έ We'd love to see your photos of the birds of prey you've spotted this winter!

We are very proud to have played a part in reintroducing Red Kites back into British skies 20 years ago, and we still monitor their populations

Last spring we recorded more than 300 Red Kite sightings, as well as more than 350 Buzzard and over 100 Kestrel sightings on walking surveys called transects ❀

Sadly these birds are still a rare sight in some areas of the country, so the work to conserve Red Kites is not over yet. You can help πŸ‘‰ https://ow.ly/bPH550UwwE2

It has been a year of steady progress for our project looking into elephants knocking over nesting trees of Lappet-faced Vultures in Kruger National Park 🌍

Our Head of Conservation Dr Campbell Murn visited South Africa on fieldwork three times this year, alongside our Africa Project Officer, AndrΓ© Botha πŸ“‹πŸ₯ΎπŸ“Έ

During this, we increased the total number of trees being monitored using camera traps to 12 in total. These will provide valuable insights as we continue to move forwards with this project in 2025!
