Red Kites over our skies! β€
We couldn't think of a better way to start a cold, January morning than by watching a glorious Red Kite soar overhead #LoveNature #LoveWildlife #RedKite
What's been your nature highlight this month?
The numbers are in for how many birds we fitted with BTO rings in 2024! Despite an injury during the year, our British Projects Manager Dr Matt Stevens was able to ring:
π¦ 275 Barn Owls
π¦ 182 Kestrels
π¦ 60 Tawny Owls
π¦ 7 Little Owls
If you like owls and kestrels, you can help us put a ring on them! As part of our Raptor Nest Box Project we provide homes for, and monitor populations, of these four cavity nesting species. #ScienceSaturday
With your help, we could monitor even more in 2025: https://ow.ly/EHA450UFrqm

Matilda meets the team! π
Our youngest Hooded Vulture Matilda has made her big move, joining the rest of our flying team of Hooded Vultures in their aviary. Go behind the scenes with Owen from the Bird Team to see how she gets on!
On your next visit, see if you can spot her amongst the team. Being nearly two years old, she still has her darker brown feathers on her head, which helps her stand out π€
Ryan from the Bird Team is bringing you a special #FridayFacts video with our two Miniature Donkeys, Mickey and Molly! π΄π
π THANK YOU! π
This year we undertook our biggest fundraising challenge ever, and with your help raised over Β£20,000 for our project conserving and protecting Endangered Lappet-faced Vultures and their nesting trees in South Africa π
Members of the team from all different departments took part, and wanted to say a huge 'thank you' to everyone who supported us this year...
