POV: You're a single Secretary Bird looking for love this Valentine's Day... π π§‘
π Although Angola has been enjoying a bachelor lifestyle, he has reached an age where, in the wild, he might start looking for a breeding partner.
π We're excited to share the Hawk Conservancy Trust has been invited to join the Secretary Bird breeding programme Species Committee!
π£This means that while offering advice on caring for this Endangered species, we could also one day provide a home for a breeding pair and their chicks, helping to conserve this incredible species.
Thank you! π
Over the festive season, so many of you kindly bought our birds, and the teams that care for them, gifts from our Amazon Wishlist π James and Owen from our Bird Team put together a special video message to everyone who supported us with a present...

We work really hard at the Trust to ensure that our birds and animals are mentally and physically stimulated -this is known as enrichment. Jennie from our Bird Team decided to hide some tasty treats inside lettuce for our birds to rip and shred - they dug right in!

What's been your nature highlight this month?
The numbers are in for how many birds we fitted with BTO rings in 2024! Despite an injury during the year, our British Projects Manager Dr Matt Stevens was able to ring:
π¦ 275 Barn Owls
π¦ 182 Kestrels
π¦ 60 Tawny Owls
π¦ 7 Little Owls
If you like owls and kestrels, you can help us put a ring on them! As part of our Raptor Nest Box Project we provide homes for, and monitor populations, of these four cavity nesting species. #ScienceSaturday
With your help, we could monitor even more in 2025: https://ow.ly/EHA450UFrqm
