Bought a new enrichment toy to take with me for any dogs who may benefit whilst going through one of my courses. Tried and tested by Teddy this afternoon.
Homemade Enrichment Toys.
Enrichment for dogs.
What might seem like an unkept part of the garden to the human eye, it is the patch that is solely for the girls to do whatever makes them happy. Once completed, they will not only be able to dig but to forage as well. Think we can safely say they had fun.

I am so proud of how far this team has come.
Over the last 3 months we have taken a very nervous dog who is under a DCN, that used to react at the first sight of a dog to now being able to go to a park and sit and watch other dogs.
When your dog is reactive toward other dogs, what they're asking for is DISTANCE!, they're not looking for a dust up or trying to be the ALPHA! They're scared and screaming at the top of their lungs that they're uncomfortable with the environment or situation. Your dog has learnt over time that if it does this, then that makes the scary thing go away! and the more opportunity they get to do this behaviour, the better at it they become! So from your dogs perspective, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Studies show that 90% of reactivity is based in FEAR!
Aggression is not a personality trait. It's how your dog responds to the stimulus!
Archie has done so well and has come so far, and we are now starting to change his emotional response to dogs. He is able to look at the dog, remain calm and this is what we've been reinforcing!
This was our final session with the dog warden present to have the DCN amended and show the progress Archie has made.
This course has been very complex at times due to his past learning history, but it proves beyond a doubt that it doesn't matter what happened in the past. We achieved this without having to resort to any aversive methods or equipment! This was all done through modern progressive scientific based training methods.
The power of using positive reward based methods is that you're giving the dog a choice and enabling the dog to predict the outcome by structuring the environment to ensure the dog remains under threshold and therefore able to process the environment around them and allowing them to communicate how they want to proceed.
I have never nor will I ever use any aversive methods or equipment to train a dog. There is absolutely no need for them, and all they teach the dog is that you're
Here we have the brilliant pup Dougie.
Dougie gets a wee bit over excited when seeing other dogs and that can lead to his communication being clumsy.
So we have been working hard on teaching him that he can have access to any dog so long as he is calm. This was our 2nd session and he is starting to make very clear calm choices around dogs.
This has been done by us carefully managing his environment to ensure he is under threshold and then the choices he makes are the clear calm choices we have taught him.
There is not a slip lead, shock collar or any other aversive methods used. This is all based on behavioural analysis and science.
Positive reward training is a fantastic tool to teach dogs the behaviours needed to help them interact with the environment around them.
If you're interested in showing your dog how to remain calm around other dogs then please just send me a wee text or message the page and together we can make your dog the best dog they can be.

Ruben, practicing the triangle game around distractions. There was an awful lot for him to do here, the dog was off lead and there was a ball chucker. He did an awesome job here, remained calm and focused on his guardian.
If you would like help with teaching your dog to remain calm around other dogs and focused on you, then get in touch.
March has limited availability left so book now and secure your spot.
Together we can make your dog the best dog they can be.

Working with Archie to help him be calm around people and dogs.
Here was our first road test of putting all the hard work in to practice. He did a fantastic job, he was a little anxious but managed to stay calm, focused and made good choices.

The worst part of this was the video was there to try and educate people, yet despite this I was trolled very publicly and it was so uncalled for and totally unprofessional

Still making progress with Remi and her emotional response to her harness.
This was a massive step for her as usually the sight of the harness being held will send her running and digging the sofa or her bed. We had one really bad response where she got that frightened she pee'd! So for her to be able to do this is amazing 👏 😍. Love this wee girl to bits and we will get there, Rome wasn't built in a day and together we can make her the best dog she can be.

Changing Remi's emotional response towards her harness.
Even a trainer's dog can need a bit of help sometimes.
