Dog Owners - you NEED to read this post!!!

Grass Seeds - appearing innocent but can cause huge issues for our dogs!

If you've never heard of grass seeds being problematic then that's great as it probably means your dog hasn't had any run ins with grass seeds!

However, many dog owners here will have experienced the difficulties that can show with grass seeds;

Grass Seeds easily become detached from their stem while dogs run through longer grasses and may just sit on the fur but can end up in other places!

Dogs can tread on grass seeds or lift their paw up when a grass seed is above the paw and a seed can quickly become embedded in the paw which stays there once home and works its way further in.

Grass seeds can land on fur near the ear and then gradually move towards and into the ear canal during a walk so by the time you get home it could be completely hidden inside.

We can have grass seeds stuck on our clothes or in our shoes during a walk or just out without our dog then bring them home, which fall off in the house or garden and then dogs easily pick them up in their fur, tread on them, sniff them into the nose etc

Take a look at our blog on Grass Seeds; how they affect dogs, how we can protect them and what to do if you suspect a grass seed somewhere around your dog!

Comment below with GRASS and we will send you the link directly!

Have you had experience with grass seeds and your dog? Let us know!

Do you give your dog eggs??

Yep, eggs! Raw, boiled, scrambled eggs... however you prefer!

Eggs offer dogs huge nutritional benefits so even once every couple of weeks is beneficial 🌟

We currently have so many happy ducks and chickens that I might not always get them cleaned, stamped and out for their new homes within a couple of days of them being lay and I don't like putting out eggs that are a week old despite them still having several weeks more freshness than store bought eggs!

So sometimes when we have a few extra eggs I box them up and give away as 'eggs for dogs' - rather than waste them I'd rather someone use them to give their dog a nutritious treat! Ours get plenty and I also feed them back to the birds occasionally and we still have too many every now and then!

I've put 4 boxes of eggs for dogs in the little egg hut out the front of the building at Dog Training - they are free so please feel free to take a box for your dogs when you're at training x

There's nothing wrong with them at all just the dates are longer then I like 🙂

Enjoy!

🌟 Our team dogs are pretty proud to be seen with us now with our new branded training gear! 🌟

The brilliant Stitched Up have done a great job again with finding the types of tops we asked for and providing excellent embroidery of our logo!

I have more polo shirts plus another vest top while Kate went for a cheery yellow for her tops - last time it was our jackets for winter in blacks and reds so quite a contrast!

And yes, as we have been asked if clothing is available for people who train with us, we will be looking at having T-shirts, body warmers, jackets and I'm also hoping for dog bandanas too!!

Even the white polo shirt isn't particularly see through which makes a change!!

We'd love your thoughts on the logo being embroidered and the colours of our training tops!

Yesterday evening we visited our local Beavers group (local to Joe!) to give another talk about handling, safety and hygiene but this time instead of dogs it was focused on Ducklings and Chicks!

Nova the Duckling and her 4 chick buddies went and met the Beavers, Nova was fed lettuce and blueberries and received lots of guided strokes while our Rhode Rock and Legbar chicks got given lettuce in their pen and even got new names (Velociraptor and Waffles!)

Helping children learn about how to be safe around pets can help both children and animals live happily together as well as helping any fears children may have.

Reminding each child to wash their hands after each interaction with pets and showing them how we clean up after them properly to show not only cleanliness but also responsibilities - so many people so my videos of my ducks and say they'd love a duck! The reality is much harder work!! lol!

The boys were fantastic with Nova and gang and even made them Thankyou cards too!

We do provide talks on dog safety and care for schools and other groups - pop us a message to find out more or contact Debby at - I'm proud to be a Kids Around Dogs Approved Professional!

Welfare of dogs and humans is up top of our priorities lists and that includes the hottest days of the year!

We don't cancel training for the sake of it but if we can see the temperature is going to be uncomfortable for dogs, owners and our training team we will make the decision to postpone and run training the following week - usually you get a free mini class via video to give you something to work on which is additional to the training, not instead of!

We hope everyone understands we put safety and welfare above running the business x

Stay safe!

Sunday we are running a Tricks and Hoopers Display at the Pooch Picnic in the Foxes Fields secure dog field at Colne Engaine!

I will be working all three dogs but one at a time - instead of needing to change them in and out of a large crate would anyone be available to help hold two dog's leads while I work the 3rd and make it easier to swap dogs?

It will be about 15 mins in the ring plus few mins before as I'll need to set up equipment! For helping for less than 20 mins you can come to the Pooch Picnic with me and after the demo enjoy the rest of the day without an entry fee!

You won't need to do any handling with tricks etc just look after them at the back of the demo area xx

Please message on 07809 117912 (text or what's app message) if you might be able to help!

If you're going to the Pooch Picnic - we look forward to seeing you!

Waiting for the Activities Update email? It's coming - it's been an incredibly arduous week ending with my pain levels sky high last night from my ME and needing my morphine patch a day early just to be able to sleep (finally after 4am)

Fatigue can mean going into adrenalin which then makes sleep and resting really hard too! What a combo!

I'm just going to do something with my dogs who have been incredibly patient today then I'll finish the email and send!!!

Very kind to write us reviews for our Google page and on our page as well which really helps other dog owners to see what it is people training with us like and in this case other owners of Northern type breeds too xx

We love having Luna in our training and of course Luna's mum too! It would be very boring if all dogs were exactly the same and we love a dog with a personality 🥰🥰🥰

Huge shoutout of thanks to the dog-mad Cat at for coming to our Hoopers monthly classes several weeks ago to capture the dogs enjoying their training!

Somehow Cat manages to blend into training area without distracting anyone but achieves photos as if she is doing the exercises with the dogs!

And if you like these clear and fun images then take a look at the pages to see the photos of dogs in woodlands and fields! Stunning pictures!

I still have professional photos up of my first two Norwich Terriers, Cassie and Taylor taken in 2006 as more recent pics and they are entirely worth the time and planning for the wonderful memories; capturing your dog's personality forever 💗

Of you need any help with capturing your dog in natural looking poses or helping with recalls etc you know we are here to help too!

Canine Conditioning and Dog Fitness - this afternoon we had three very hard working dogs with Luna, Tilly and Chester!

All three dogs are Uber friendly with people and dogs but the beauty with canine fitness is how much focus we see from our dogs while they are working!

Progressions with foot placements, holding the stand in a nice square shape, weight shifting, warming up, cooling down and trying different equipment gave the dogs a nice variety to work on and the chance to work various areas of the body!

Very pleased with today's group - hard working dogs and owners!

We will have availability for 121 Canine Conditioning and Fitness coming up towards the end of June so if you have been thinking about working your dog to being stronger and improved overall health then get in touch and we will get you booked!

We're in Newsweek again!! Our top tips to help prevent Separation Issues in dogs has been included in this article about a Shih'Tzu who can't contain herself once she realises she is going with her mum and not staying home!

Separation issues are one of the most commonly asked about dog behaviours for dogs of all ages and can cause dogs a huge amount of stress as well as making life more limiting for the family and even involving neighbours sometimes when dogs are vocal.

There are lots of ways we can prevent separation issues as well as ways to start helping our dogs - check the comments below for the link to this article and if you'd like our blog talking about Separation Issues just type 'separation' in the comments and I'll send it over x

Most important for dogs suffering with separation issues is to work with someone who understands the issues, has successfully helped dogs previously and knows how to help as working with a trainer without experience who is friendly and keen but not experienced can result in issues worsening and resulting in a very unhappy dog!

The are also Separation Anxiety Specialists now who work with families day in day out and have huge experience.

Have you experienced separation issues with a dog / pet at any time?

Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme assessments today!!

We have finalised times! Edit - Angela has been held up so won't reach us until 3.30 so aim for 3.30pm now for Bronze!

🥉Bronze level - arrive between 3-3.20pm for a 3.30pm start

🥈Silver level - arrive just after 4.15pm for approx 4.30 start

🥇Gold level - arrive 5pm to start around 5.15pm

My own dog is doing Gold so I need a few mins for her to get out the van, toilet and get into mode lol plus give my other dogs a quick toilet x

Yes it's raining so most likely inside aside from Silver and Gold road walks so please bring a jacket etc

Remember:

All levels - Poo Bag, ID tag on collar (even if your dog is on a harness unless for medical reasons)

Bronze - brush, comb etc
Silver - copy or photo of bronze cert if not achieved at ours
Gold - bed for on the bed, copy or photo of Silver cert if not achieved at ours

Treats, toy, towel, sense of humour 😜

I am trying to remember even who has said that they are coming but with my fatigue on high this week I'm getting mixed with 'yes to Friday', 'yes to July' and 'I'll come to the practice but we are not doing any tests yet' - if you see one of these updates please like or r comment so I know for sure in case of additional updates x

See you later
