A SPECIAL SURPRISE!! 😲πŸ₯Ί

πŸ¦™ We are overjoyed to announce the exciting news of a new arrival - a baby vicuΓ±a

πŸ‘€ While we suspected that the mother was pregnant, vicuΓ±as are amazing at concealing their pregnancies - a strategy to protect against predators, so we weren't entirely certain until the birth!

🧠 FUN FACT: A vicuña baby is called a cria, which is also the term used for baby llamas, alpacas, and guanacos

πŸ“Έ These adorable photos were captured just 20 minutes after the birth

πŸ‘‰ Watch this space for more updates on our newest little one... and come see her this weekend at the zoo!

NEW ARRIVAL!! πŸ§‘πŸ’

We're excited to announce the arrival of another primate species πŸ‘‰ the golden lion tamarin

🦁 Flaunting a bright golden mane and distinct orange fur, this species is recognised for closely resembling a certain feline...

🌿 Native to the Atlantic coastal rainforests of southeastern Brazil, golden lion tamarins spend their days foraging for food high up in the tree canopies.

🌍 But with just 2-5% of its original habitat remaining in the wild, this species is classified as 'Endangered' on the IUCN Red List which is why we’re proud to play a role in safeguarding and protecting them for the future

FUN FACT: Golden lion tamarins will usually give birth to twins!

πŸ‘€ Come and visit them in their newly refurbished enclosure opposite Gibbon Forest!

We have some NEW residents!! πŸ‘πŸ‘€

πŸ’ Meet one of our greater bamboo lemurs...

🎍 This species is native to a bamboo-rich region in Madagascar, acquiring their name due to their highly specialised diet, consisting of 95% bamboo!

🌍 With fewer than 1000 estimated to remain in the wild, we are honored to support this critically endangered species through our ongoing conservations efforts at the zoo

πŸ‘€ Don't forget to check them out on your next visit!

🏑 This exciting news comes not long after the group had moved into their newly refurbished enclosure designed by our keepers
