NEW ARRIVAL!! π§‘π
We're excited to announce the arrival of another primate species π the golden lion tamarin
π¦ Flaunting a bright golden mane and distinct orange fur, this species is recognised for closely resembling a certain feline...
πΏ Native to the Atlantic coastal rainforests of southeastern Brazil, golden lion tamarins spend their days foraging for food high up in the tree canopies.
π But with just 2-5% of its original habitat remaining in the wild, this species is classified as 'Endangered' on the IUCN Red List which is why weβre proud to play a role in safeguarding and protecting them for the future
FUN FACT: Golden lion tamarins will usually give birth to twins!
π Come and visit them in their newly refurbished enclosure opposite Gibbon Forest!
We have some NEW residents!! π‘π
π Meet one of our greater bamboo lemurs...
π This species is native to a bamboo-rich region in Madagascar, acquiring their name due to their highly specialised diet, consisting of 95% bamboo!
π With fewer than 1000 estimated to remain in the wild, we are honored to support this critically endangered species through our ongoing conservations efforts at the zoo
π Don't forget to check them out on your next visit!
