Could your horse have Cushing's (PPID)?

Cushing's is common in older horses and ponies but the signs can be subtle, especially in the early stages.

Common Clinical Signs:
🔹Abnormal Coat
🔹Abnormal Fat Deposits
🔹Abnormal Sweating
🔹Increased Thirst/Urination
🔹Laminitis
🔹Lethargy
🔹Muscle Wastage
🔹Recurrent Infections

A simple blood test 💉can help us to assess if your horse may have PPID and an ACTH voucher can be generated to help reduce the costs.

‼️ UPDATE ‼️
Our power is back on at the practice, we are sorry for any inconvenience caused this morning. The temporary repairs will hopefully keep us up and running as normal 🤞.

‼️We are currently experiencing power issues at the practice which has taken down our phone and computer systems ‼️

We have some very exciting news to share about our re-start vaccination prices 🥳

As of today, Monday 10th August, if your horse or pony needs to re-start their vaccination course, your 1st and 2nd vaccine combined, will cost £79.00!
This price applies to all courses that are re-started in horses and ponies over 1 year of age.

In addition to this great new re-start price, for any clients who join the Equine Health Plan within one month of their second vaccination will also receive ONE MONTH of FREE membership 🙌

On Friday, we sadly bid farewell to Cameron Roker MRCVS.

Cameron joined WPEV in April 2024 and has been a valued member of our team ever since. She will be greatly missed by her colleagues, clients, and the many horses she has cared for during her time with us.

We would like to thank Cameron for her hard work, dedication, and commitment, and we wish her every success as she returns to university to study Epidemiology.

🐴 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭?

💦 - access to clean, fresh water and check it regularly

👒- provide shade whenever possible

🪭- keep stables well ventilated and/or use fans

🏇- avoid exercise and travelling specially during the hottest part of the day

🪣- use hose or buckets to cool down - no need to scrape off!

🔥- watch for signs of overheating - excessive sweating, heavy / rapid breathing, flared nostrils, lethargy
