Hart Vets Waddesdon Improving the lives of pets and their owners Hart Vets Waddesdon cares for pets in Aylesbury and the surrounding villages.

Our mission is to improve the lives of pets and their owners. We are dedicated to providing quality affordable health care with compassion. We care for your pets the same way we would want our own pets to be cared for. Our Waddesdon Aylesbury veterinary surgery is small and friendly. We like to get to know our patients and our small size helps ensure our clients see familiar faces when they visit.

Although we are small, our facilities and equipment rival and exceed many larger practices. For example, we have digital x-ray, ultrasound and endoscopy on site. We also have our own in house lab to allow rapid diagnosis, and anaesthetic monitoring equipment like used in human hospitals. We use fluid pumps for all patients requiring fluid therapy which is much safer. Separate cat and dog wards reduce stress for our patients. We operate on-site Monday- Friday in our purpose designed operating theatre. We have an experienced team of vets and veterinary nurses. Hart Vets Waddesdon was independently inspected by the RCVS last September and is accredited as a Small Animal Practice. Our veterinary hospital in Bicester is one of only 150 practices in the country that have met the stringent requirements set by the RCVS to be accredited as a Small Animal Veterinary Hospital. Our out of hours emergency service is provided by our own vets and nurses at our veterinary hospital in Bicester. The data controller is Independent Vetcare ltd, The Chocolate Factory, Keynsham, Bristol, BS31 2AU (ICO reference number Z3212973). We have a Data Protection Officer who can be contacted at [email protected]

Sweet girl Meg was in recently to be neutered. Meg will have a post op check with our nursing team 7-10 days after her surgery. 💚

📋We aim to audit the recovery of all our patients post surgery. This allows us to gather and review information on your pets pain management, wound healing, any complications and how they have recovered from the anaesthetic.

If we have booked in a post-op appointment for you then it is really important that you attend, even if your pet appears to be doing well at home. 🗓👍

💊🍭 What to do if my pet has eaten something poisonous? 🍫🍇

Never watch and wait! If you suspect your pet has ingested something they shouldn't then be sure to contact us or the Veterinary Poisons Information Service and Animal PoisonLine straight away to find out more.

There are any many substances which are extremely harmful or even fatal to our pets. The longer these are left to digest the more harmful the effects can be so it is best to act immediately.

Animal PoisonLine is run by the Veterinary Poisons Information Service (VPIS) and is the only 24-hour specialised emergency telephone service in the UK dedicated to helping pet owners who are worried their pet may have been exposed to something harmful or poisonous.

Based on the information you provide our vets and scientists will be able to tell you if you need to go to the vets for immediate treatment or whether we can save you the trip.

We have experience of thousands of toxic substances in all animals and cover everything from human drugs, household and garden products, plants, agricultural chemicals to venomous bites and stings.

We recommend saving our number into your phone so you do not have to search the internet when you need us!

❗️🌾 GRASS SEEDS 🌾 ❗️
🐾 Just a reminder to all of our clients to check your pets regularly for grass seeds at this time of year. Whilst the wet weather has meant we haven't seen as many as usual we have had a few cases, including this seed that was removed from a cat's eye! Ouch!

🐕 Be aware of the common tell-tale signs of a grass seed problem:
⚠️ Pawing and licking at a particular area
⚠️ Swelling and/ or discharge
⚠️ Limping
⚠️ Violent head shaking
⚠️ Frequently tilting the head to one side
⚠️ Scratching at an ear incessantly
⚠️ Continuous sneezing
⚠️ Coughing
🌾 As Foxtails dry they become brittle and more dangerous as they break off into tiny segments. It is therefore important you get your pet checked out as soon as you can if you spot any of these signs.

Pluto is now after his owners brought him to be microchipped. He was such a good boy and very much enjoyed the Lick-e-Lix reward! 😋

🐾 Angus the Westie is nearly 15 years old and, like many of our older pets, he suffers from arthritis.

His owners recently got him his own stroller so that he can still enjoy family walks but without flaring up his joints. He still enjoys an occasional potter and sniff around, but only when he feels up to it, otherwise his personal coachman will get him around! 😉

It is a common misconception that allowing your pet to lick it's wound will help it to heal. 👅 ✅❓

❌ This is in fact a myth! Saliva has very little anti-bacterial properties, in fact if you think of some of the disgusting things our pets eat or lick, their mouths really aren't very clean at all!
Excessive licking can also lead to irritation causing the skin to become inflamed and increase the chance of infection. Licking and chewing can also slow healing by reopening wounds, as well as potential causing self-harm. 😿

🐶 Buzz Bert came in after his owners spotted he was shaking his head a lot and seemed very bothered by his ear. If you have ever had an ear infection yourself you will know how uncomfortable ear ache can be.
😴 We therefore decided to give Buzz Bert a sedation so that we could fully examine the ear without causing him any further pain. Lurking inside was some strange hair-like material that had become lodge in the ear canal which the vet managed to remove with a long pair of forceps.

Are you planning on taking your pet abroad this year? Here's what you need to know...
🛂 Pet passports are no longer valid
📝 An Animal Health Certificate is now required each time you travel
🔟 The certificate must be issued no more than 10 days before the date of travel
👨‍⚕️ Only a Official Veterinarian can issue the certificate, not all of our vets have completed the additional course to do this

Your pet must:
🐾 Be microchipped
💉 Had a rabies vaccine at least 21 days prior to travel

💊 A tape-worming treatment must be administered by a vet 24-120 hours prior to re-entering the UK.
⚠️ AHC's are a long document and take our vets about 60-90 minutes to complete, as such we have taken the decision to only offer this service to existing clients.
🗓 To avoid disappointment we would recommend contacting us 1-2 months prior to travelling to book your AHC appointment.
