In March 2022, I trained in Equine Salt Therapy and am able to offer this as a mobile service where I come to your yard. Salt therapy has many benefits for your horse or pony and deals with respiratory, sinus and skin conditions. We had another proud moment yesterday with Spirit becoming strong enough to not only take his saddle back on but also his owner.

Back in October, Spirit had kissing spines surgery and we have slowly been taking him through his rehab and physio so to see him at this point is very rewarding.

He will soon be ready to go home and continues his journey to fitness.

Rehabilitation from kissing spine surgery can be a long road but with time and patience, and plenty of physiotherapy along the way, we can make your horse strong enough, move better and be more comfortable in their work.

Well done spirit

This week I’ve been tutoring for The College of Animal Physiotherapy on their massage course. We have been at Hartwell Riding Stables Ltd. and it would appear that Shamus was more than happy to offer himself for practice.

That’s the spot Shamus 😍

We were very pleased to have a warm, clean and tidy area to use as a classroom at Hartwell

Here is some more information on the mobile rehab I am offering….

Mobile rehab and Physio is an opportunity for me to come to your yard and see your horse rather than them coming to my facilities. This can sometimes be off putting for clients for a number of reasons and one being that we don’t know how your horse will settle. This way, your horse stays in their familiar surroundings and can benefit greatly mentally.

Since opening the yard two years ago, we have proved that physiotherapy from the start of an injury or operation can great improve a horse’s healing capacity both physically and mentally. In the unfortunate event that your horse needs box rest, daily physio means that the body is being supported whilst immobile to remain supple, flexible and circulation can be maintained. This is where I can help your horse.

The Packages on offer will be based on how many times I am needed to attend in a week and this will depend on the nature of rehab and the requirements of your vet. I have an array of equipment and expertise to bring with me to do the job on site.

⚜️ GOLD PACKAGE - up to 4 times a week

🩶 SILVER PACKAGE - up to 3 times a week

🥉 BRONZE PACKAGE - up to 2 times a week

CONDITIONS CAN I HELP WITH…

✳️ Kissings Spines (pre-op, post-op and conservatively
✳️ Tendon / suspensory / ligament repair
✳️ Restoring flexibility when on box rest
✳️ Muscle tears
✳️ Any post surgery care
✳️ Wound care
✳️ Strengthening

And many more scenarios

EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE…

Ⓜ️ Red Light Therapy
Ⓜ️ Therapeutic Ultrasound
Ⓜ️ PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy)
Ⓜ️ Equilibrium Products Heatsense Massage Pad
Ⓜ️ Equilibrium Products Massage Mitt
Ⓜ️ Yoga blocks
Ⓜ️ Electrotherapies like TENS and NMES
Ⓜ️ Kinesiology Taping
Ⓜ️ Vibration Therapy
Ⓜ️ Epiony Heat Pad (Thermal Wand coming soon)

I can offer you the best care of your horse and you don’t need to be there for the treatments. I already treat many horses without the client being there and I provide a report following the treatment.

I am recognised on most insurance policies and so you might be able to claim back some physio expenses on your insurance.

Please do get in touch if you would like to know more and to get a quotation. I work with your vet to agree a suitable plan of treatment

Exciting New Service – Prioritising Your Horse’s Well-Being

Running a business means constantly evolving, and over the past winter, I’ve been reflecting on how best to enhance the care I provide. The well-being of the horses I treat is always my top priority, and I’m committed to adapting to their needs in an ever-changing world.

With that in mind, I’m thrilled to introduce a dedicated rehab service directly at your yard. Instead of travelling to a facility, I will come to you a set number of times per month to carry out tailored rehab and physiotherapy sessions.

What does this mean for you and your horse?
✅ Less stress, more comfort – Your horse stays in their familiar surroundings, aiding relaxation and recovery.
✅ Convenience for you – No need to adjust your daily routine or arrange transport.
✅ Cost-effective – Reduced travel and livery costs, plus most insurance policies cover physiotherapy.

Each rehab plan will be tailored to suit your horse’s needs, and I’ll work closely with you to create a package that fits both your goals and budget. I’m in the final stages of refining these packages, but if this sounds like something that could benefit you and your horse, let’s chat!

Your horse’s well-being is at the heart of everything I do, and I can’t wait to bring this service directly to you.

📩 Drop me a message to find out more! I have a keen interest in rehabilitation with Kissing Spines horses and have seen many horses through my rehab yard with the condition and returning to full health.

Could it be… Springtime is on its way??? Let’s hope so.

As we look towards a change in season, now’s the time to start thinking about starting Salt Therapy and kick starting your horse’s respiratory system before the pollens start and change.

If your horses suffers from any of the following conditions, salt therapy is one to look at…

🦄 Asthma
🦄 COPD
🦄 A stubborn cough that won’t go away
🦄 Sweetitch
🦄 Mud fever
🦄 Any respiratory or skin condition
🦄 Even if your horse needs a ‘pick me up’ after winter and not being able to get out in the fresh air

Salt therapy is great for loosening mucous in the respiratory system and breaking it down. It’s a natural anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial and perfect for a system clean up.

I have many clients who have had great results from this therapy.

Initial and ‘start if year’ treatments are best given over a consecutive 3 day period with one off top treatments through the warmer seasons. By starting the treatments ahead of a pollen change, you could help minimise symptoms.

Please drop me a call or message if you are interested. My radius is on the map in the pics. If you are just outside this radius, please still contact me.

Welcome to 2025.

Regardless of the time of year, horses are prone to injuring themselves at the most inconvenient of times and with work getting going again in the new year, making time for your to go through rehab from an injury can be tough. Perhaps you’re back at work now and realise you may need some extra help with your horse through an injury.

We have two boxes available for complete box rest at our peaceful yard setting in Whitchurch, Buckinghamshire. We are able to offer accompanied box rest so your horse will never be on their own, plus all our stables have a viewing window so they can see out. Even if your horse has reached small amounts of turnout and can only be out for an hour or so, please do get in touch. We can help relieve the burden and worry for you.

During your stay with us, your horse receives their own personal physio and rehab plan with any hand grazing and walking included in the price.

We have staff on site all day too so that we can keep a close eye on them.

If this is something you feel you need help with, please do get in touch. We have many many happy clients’ horses who have come with injuries and returned home again in good health.

Please drop us a message if we can help with your box rest issues.

06/12/2024

Well 8 weeks ago we welcomed Solo to our rehab yard for strengthening and conditioning work following his lumbo-sacrum being injected.

We have slowly taken him through a programme of consistent work including long reining, lunging, hand walking, groundwork exercise and polework, not to mention an abundance of physiotherapy work.

When Solo first arrived, he was weak in the hindquarters and couldn’t maintain a correct canter lead on the left rein - he would disunite behind but stay correct in front. His hindlegs crossed under him far too much that he looked like a motorbike. His groundwork in terms of back up and small circles presented all manner of issues for me and gave me some real head scratching moments but we persevered and kept to the plan. In the early pics, you can see that his leg extension is fairly non-existent. He is what we refer to as a ‘leg mover’.

Yesterday, at the 8 week mark, we re-assessed him and oh my goodness what a difference. As you’ll see from the pics, he has an immense coat condition now, he has muscled in the hindquarters, shoulders and his top line is looking much healthier. His top line will take the longest time to mature but we aim to keep following the plan and I personally can’t wait to see him improved further still. His shoulder extension is immense now and he floats in the trot. He is able to maintain a left canter on the correct leg for much longer (we still have some work to do on this but much better) and his small circles are vastly improved and fluid now in the movement.

Solo is only 6 so we have time on our side to develop him muscularly and make him strong.

Keep with us on our page to follow his next stage of progress. I consider Solo and advocate for just how beneficial slow developing work combined with good and consistent physio, can get the results for strength and condition.

I would like to say a massive thank you to Optimus Therapy Tech for Lumina Red Light device and also to Equilibrium Products as we use their Heat Sense Massage pad in our physio plans.

Our Story

I gained my Diploma Qualification early in 2017, to be an ESMT (Equine Sports Massage Therapist) and I trained with The College of Animal Physiotherapy (TCAP). I am also studying for an Equine Physiotherapy qualification. I am also studying with TCAP for a Diploma in Equine & Canine Physiotherapy. This will give me a much broader spectrum on which to treat horses and provide the best care for your horse and dog.

As an extra service, I am able to offer Medical Taping Concept which is based on Kinesiology Taping. On occassion, your horse may need additional support following a treatment and this is where taping is invaluable. It can also help to build muscle in the correct place so that as a rider and owner, you can be sure that you are getting the best from your training programme. Please enquire if you need more information about this. The aim of ESM is to promote a healthy, happy and relaxed equine friend. It is used to help loosen tight muscles, relieve muscle cramp and decrease muscle fatigue. It also benefits the horse by encouraging a greater range of movement as well as helping to speed up recovery from illness and injury. ESM can be beneficial to any horse, whether they are at the top of their competing discipline or whether they are a happy hacker. ESM should never be confused with Physiotherapy and it is not a diagnostic treatment. Veterinary care and advice should always be sought in this situation. I operate and abide by the current Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966. Before I can carry out at a massage treatment on your horse, I will require your Vet's permission, even if your horse is in retirement or light work. Any major findings will be reported back to your vet so that they are aware for future reference. There may be times when it is not possible for me to carry out a treatment, once the initial assessment has taken place. If this should be the case, I will discuss this fully with you at the time. Please get in contact if you would like to know more or to book a massage for your equine friend. Katie
