Did you know? Antifreeze is toxic to cats.

The smell and taste of antifreeze is very appealing to our feline friends, and they are likely to lap it up if they come across a spillage. So, as the weather starts to chill off, please be careful when topping up your cars with antifreeze and clear up any spillages made.

For cat owners, check out the symptoms of antifreeze poisoning to be aware of below.

We all want our cats to experience freedom, exercise and the right to express their natural behaviours. On the other hand, dangers like road traffic accidents can have us questioning our decision. Deciding if, when and how to give your cat outdoor access involves weighing up their potential safety, happiness and health.

Here we’ve examined some of the benefits, dangers, and the alternatives - helping you to make an informed choice that works for your pet and your household.

Bringing a new cat into your home?

Whether you're introducing a kitten or an adult cat, the process needs to be handled carefully. Domestic cats are naturally solitary creatures, and not all will enjoy sharing their space.

Our latest article covers practical steps to help make the introduction as smooth as possible:

🦠It is World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week 🦠

Antibiotic resistant bacteria are an increasing problem worldwide, affecting both human and animal health.

Stopping a course of antibiotics early - even if your pet seems better - can allow antibiotic-resistant bacteria to survive and multiply.
These resistant bacteria are harder to treat.

✅ Follow your vet’s instructions
✅ Complete the full course, even if symptoms improve
✅ Never save or share leftover antibiotics (you can return them to us for safe disposal)

November is Pet Cancer Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on one of the leading health concerns affecting our beloved pets.

With one in four dogs and one in five cats developing cancer during their lifetime, early detection is key. Keep an eye out for signs such as unexplained lumps, weight loss, changes in appetite, or unusual behaviour. If you notice anything concerning, don’t wait: book a check-up with your vet. A timely visit could make all the difference in ensuring your pet gets the care they need.

Today is World Diabetes Day. Just like us, our furry friends can develop diabetes - and the sooner it’s spotted, the better it can be managed.

Common signs of diabetes in pets include:

💧Increased thirst
🟡Increased urination
⚖️ Weight loss
🐾Appetite changes

If you’ve noticed any of these changes in your pet, it’s always worth getting them checked for peace of mind.

The increase in rain during autumn can cause an influx of wild mushrooms, as they thrive in damp climates. You may come across them on walks, or they may appear in your garden. It can be very difficult to determine whether a particular mushroom is safe to eat, as many can look very similar but have very different toxicity levels.

If you suspect your pet has ingested wild mushrooms, speak to a vet as soon as possible.

❗Also, try and either take a sample or get a photo of the type of mushroom you think your pet may have ingested, as it may help the vet to identify the type of toxin and effectively treat it.

Trick or treat!
People dressed in costumes and unexpected knocks at the door can be confusing and scary for many dogs. Here are our Halloween top tips:

🧟Keep dressing up for humans only. Costumes can feel restrictive and prevent your pet from communicating their discomfort

🎃Be careful when opening the door so your dog doesn’t accidentally escape

👻If your dog is really worried, consider a sign saying ‘nervous dog, please do not knock’. You could still leave treats out for children to help themselves

🍭Keep human sweets and chocolate safely out of your dog’s reach
