💛 Tonks 💛

Very specific home required for this talented but quirky 148 Connemara mare.

This is a long post so if you’re nervous, novice, impatient, have a short temper or want to be jumping bs tracks tomorrow she’s not for you❗️

Well bred by ‘Ross Fear Bui’ 4yr old (rising 5) beautifully conformated dun mare.
‘Tonks’ came to us last year as a total project after being purchased from Ireland and coming over extremely nervous to mount/ride/work with in any way. Since then she’s had some down time in the field, a lot of love and came back to work at the end of the year enjoying a mainly hacking lifestyle.

She’s a sweet mare to work with on the ground, she always comes to call, is a dream to work around and has impeccable manners.
She’s loads, travels, shoes, clips and everything in between with absolutely no hesitation.

Ridden wise she’s lost her way sometime ago and is slowly building on this.
She’s a nervous mare that takes a lot from her rider and can be tense and buzzy to ride.
She’s by no means a bronc but will shoot forward if nervous and can become strong and forward going.
I’ve worked away with her the last few months and she’s come on leaps and bounds but is still very much a project mare needing time and patience. We’ve had her here there and everywhere, along the beach, pole clinics, working hunter hires, group lessons, grid lessons and dressage practice.
She hacks both alone and in company and frequently leads spooky/young horses out.

She’s now ready to move on and have a one to one home.
I have no doubt with the right home and a bit of time she would jump extremely well as a 148cm.
Shes up to date with all vaccinations/teeth/feet/back/xrays/vet checks and has had no money spared on her.

She’s low to mid 4️⃣ and home is absolutely essential 💛

Absolutely no joy riders I’ve put a lot of time and work into this mare for it to be undone

💨 What a day 💨

We have thankfully survived Storm Eowyn with minimal damage 🙏🏼
Jordan and I were up at crazy o’clock locking down everything we could, breaking the wind getting to the barns with lorry’s/tractors, supporting doors with haylage bales and trying our best to keep the yard safe.
So far it’s looking like a positive outcome for us with all horses including all visiting horses safe and sound, pretty unfazed by the crazy weather 🐴🥰

Last checks done and now time for some gin 🍸

Roll on summer huh ☀️

🐴 Welcome to 2025 🐴

And we are off!!!!
After a quiet few weeks over Christmas we are back into the swing of it here at Meadowhead Equestrian

Here’s some of the ponies/horses we have in just now.
It’s definitely the month for the tiny ponies, we’d love to let you know the height of the smallest pony but unfortunately the height stick doesn’t go that small 😂😂

In order of height…
🧡 Bella the Shetland in for breaking for a good friend of ours
🤍Yoda Elias’s pony who’s now broken and enjoying lots of desensitising work with Rachel Hadley
🩶Buddy a young man full of character who lives only a stone throw away is in for breaking
🩶Mickey the coolest wee guy who’s in for a bit of schooling and looking forward to our junior jockeys having some fun on him rather than lugging Catriona around
💛Tonks our own 148 Connie mare who’s nearly ready to make an appearance at some local shows
🤎And last but not least our own ‘Elm’ who’s out of my very special mare ‘Willow’ who is having a couple of weeks of breaking before being left to mature until the summer ☀️

There’s not a full sized horse between them but what a fun way to start 2025 😂🥰🐴

🦠STRANGLES UPDATE 🦠

We are CLEAR 🥳🥰🥳🥰🥳

Huge thanks to &jpartyhire & The Fenwick Hotel for sharing the news with our team.
There are many sore heads this morning but it was a well needed celebration 🥂🍾🍹🥂🍾

Too many people to thank individually for their support and kindness during this time. But a huge thanks to MBM vets who as always have been outstanding not only with getting us through this tough time but for giving us full advice/information on the strangles vaccination a year ago which gave us a huge amount of reassurance knowing our horses were all strangles vaccinated and as well prepared for this as we could be.

However as always good news comes hand in hand with bad as we mourn the loss of the banana protective suit who reported for duty one last time yesterday 🍌 👋

🦠😷 Strangles Update 😷🦠

Delighted to announce at present we are still symptom free 💯

We are being hugely vigilant, following guidance from our outstanding vets, taking temperatures, using litres upon litres of disinfectant, using safety gear, monitoring all horses, all to try and ensure their wellbeing 🐴

As always our liveries who let’s face it are friends not clients have been absolutely brilliant and as we continue to stay in lockdown we are enjoying non horsey socialising (drinking) and mainly taking the mick out of Catriona and her choice of ‘safety gear’ many memes/tiktoks/zoomed in pictures have been made….

We’ve had loads of people get in touch to ask how we are doing which is hugely appreciated and prompted this post 🥰

We are of course down to bare minimum in schooling/breaking/sales having cancelled any arrivals for the foreseeable future so have filled our time with giving meadowhead a facelift 🎨

Here’s some of what we have been up to, as well as a few shots of Catriona at her best wearing what can only be described as a strong contender for the Meadowhead Christmas Night out. 🍌

STRANGLES

Unfortunately we have a horse that’s tested positive for strangles

The horse has recently joined as a livery. The horse was tested during his isolation period, and it’s came back positive on guttural wash. The horse has displayed no symptoms so far, and the guttural wash looked clear.

Majority of our horses are vaccinated for strangles - thankfully!!

Our yard is therefore on LOCKDOWN. We have contacted the local yard that horse came from. And we are in the process of contacting all future schooling clients.

We are working closely with the vets and have procedures planned for this situation. Hopefully this will be over in 4 weeks!

⛄️ Boom Winter has arrived ⛄️

We’ve had a super run here at Meadowhead with livery horses enjoying 24hr turnout for nearly 8 months. 😮

Today we begin our winter routine and all horses are tucked up in bed ready to get back out to the fields in the daylight hours ❄️

Huge thanks to Chelsea Gebbie Equine Shiatsu who worked on both my horses today 🥰

Casino jumped brilliant at the winter class this morning and was chuffed to bits coming off the lorry to be greeted by Chelsea and her magic hands 🙌

Our 148 mare ‘Tonks’ got her first session with Chelsea today to make sure everything is in order after being turned away for the last of the summer, safe to say she was for going home with Chelsea and absolutely loved her time with her 🥰

As always we are very grateful to Chelsea who sponsors myself and my horses. She always keeps both my own and multiple clients horses comfortable and happy and the horses all absolutely love their sessions.

A brilliant treat for them all 🦄🦄

What a morning we had here at Meadowhead 🥰

With November being so kind to us our livery horses are still enjoying staying out over night living their best life being horses🐴

Long may it continue (hopefully the entire winter would be brilliant) 😂

👋 Good morning 👋

As we head into Winter our full livery horses will shortly be coming off their current 24hr turnout and onto daily turnout meaning we will be busier than ever with mucking out 💩
It’s been lovely over the summer with so many people popping in on their way past for a look around, meeting some of the team and booking their horses in for years to come.

As our time is now more precious than ever we thought it would be worthwhile to make this video to allow potential clients to be taken through the breaking process, see our facilities and how things are done here. 🥰 Of course if further information is needed we are always available for calls/messages and pre arranged show rounds.

We are totally FULL for all livery until the next year but are delighted to start welcoming new horses in 2025 🌼

Quite the variety of horses in at the moment 🥰

The benefits of being quite short.. lots of fun ponies to ride 😂

Here we have 7 of the horses/ponies that are currently in at Meadowhead

We have had such a variety of horses in over the last view months which has kept things interesting and sometimes entertaining (at Catriona expense prodomtly) recently we have had in

* breaking liveries
* schooling livery (cheeky monkey’s)
* schooling livery (learning to come off the lead rein)
* sales liveries
* re breaking livery (previous bad experience)
* working with nervous horses
* change in discipline (dressage to showjumper)
* retraining of racehorses
*holiday liveries (pack your bags and enjoy the wind and rain of East Ayrshire while mum & dad are sunning themselves abroad 😂)
*boot camp (some chunky chaps that have over indulged on the summer grass and need to shed the pounds and get back to work)

We are still working hard, painting fences and calling 10 degrees “rugs off weather it’s a lovely day” in total denial that winter is creeping around the corner ⛄️

Here she is celebrating her year anniversary in her new home winning everything and being very much adored by the whole family 🥰

Thankyou to her owners for the updates, we love hearing how our horses are getting on 🏡

Fingers crossed for our wee Rebekka Sutherland who does a wonderful job riding some of our 148’s 🥰

Hope everyone has fun down at Hoys sad not to be there watching this year.

I would like to wish Rebecca Sutherland and the legend that is Duncan the best of luck who are competing at the 138 final ❤️

Lianne and Rebecca get all their ponies treated often to keep them on top form 🥰

🔨 Huge thankyou to George Carson at GC Fencing LTD who did a fantastic job replacing nearly 1000m worth of fencing for us here at Meadowhead Equestrian 🔨

We are hoping the 5 wire with an electric 6th wire on top will keep our furry friends safe and we look forward to welcoming George back next year for phase 2 of fence replacement 🪚⛏️
