Not at all dog related, but I'd like to give a mention to the Ayr Flower Show. 🌸🏵️🪻
It's been run as a charity for the past 6 years by wonderful volunteers who give up a lot of their time to keep it going. 👏👏
It's only £7 entry. Maybe take some inspiration from it and enter something yourself next year.
My daughter loves doing the children's section (as I did back when I was small for what was the big flower show).

Thankyou to the many lovely messages on our grass in the Wag and Run Field. Ian cuts the field 2-3 times a week.
We have many reasons to do so;
🪰 Not only does it look nice short, but long grass harbours bugs like ticks. Ticks can cause lymes disease in both dogs and humans.
💩 In long grass it's harder to see where they have had wee accidents.
🌾 The seeds in long grass can also cause problems if it get into eyes or ears and up noses. It can also burry into paws or the skin.
🥵 Long grass is also home to poisonous weeds such as ragwort. If a dog eats ragwort they can develop symptoms immediately or over a few days. Symptoms can be mild, but in most cases they are severe, even fatal.

So all our grass is kept short for these reasons. We always grow wild flower for the insects to enjoy so we are not denying them either :) 🐝🐞🦋 (due to the heavy rain early "summer" much of our seed got washed away at the road side, but there is still enough for our tiny tiny visitors)

Dumfries house Dog show today.

10am until 1pm. The show will feature fun classes including Best Trick, Dog That Looks Most Like Their Owner and Best Rescue Dog. £3 per class.

Raising funds for Bravehound, a Scottish charity supporting former servicemen and women. They provide training and dogs to support veterans.

Wag and run are sponsoring a class again this year with a trophy and goodie bag.

Plunge pool questions;
It is indeed for use. However not everyone wants a wet dog and some dogs bring their small humans so that's the reason it's behind the fencing (this is temporary and will be replaced with something prettier and more robust in the future). The fence can be easily lifted at the corner and moved aside if you want to use it. Then closed in the same way once you're done. There are rules and doggy life vests, if needed in the shed. This again like all our equipment is for canine use only. Thankyou

I must say the field is looking fantastic. All down to Ian's hard work, my unsung hero who's out there almost daily cutting the grass. Tried and tested each night by our own mad Max.
** Max doesn't play near the field or park when we are open. Max has his own garden behind the house. We are visited regularly by nervous and reactive dogs **

Looking to put a wee addition into the dog field but not sure what's most wanted; 3 seater bench with back or a raised dog walk??

We have the sea saw and the climber in the playpark so wanted something different.
I'll order it in a couple of weeks when I know what's most wanted.

We still get many questions re XL bully dogs.

Firstly we welcome all dogs here at Wag and Run.

ALL rules must of course must be adhered to by ALL dog owners for everyone's safety and enjoyment.

The law states that XL bullies can be let off the lead and off their muzzle as long as the field is secure. All gates must be shut and locked behind you. The law also states for XL bully owners that there is no sharing a space with those outside your household. If you have more than one dog in your household then they can be in the field together but the XL bully has to have a 1:1 ratio with a responsible person.

Our field has a padlock- you would have to padlock yourself in. Which we would advice any visitor to do.
The playpark has an inner chain and again you would be expected to chain yourself in.
Both areas have 6ft fencing and are not within site of each other. Both areas have parking within, so there is no chance of meeting with other dogs or your dog slipping a lead before entering a secure area.

There is a 5 min buffer between bookings so ALL field users should keep track of the time.

NO MATTER THE DOG OR SITUATION NEVER EVER ENTER EITHER THE FILED OR PLAYPARK IF IT IS IN USE!

For XL bully owners there is no sharing your booking with those outside your household. If you have more than one dog in your household then they can be in the field together but the XL bully has to have a 1:1 ratio with a responsible person. This is the law we now have to abide by.

Answers to recent questions.
🐾 re XL bullies. Yes they can use the field and yes once inside and the gates securely shut (as expected on any visit) they can be let off both the lead and muzzle. Both our field and play park are enclosed with 6ft deer fencing. The law however does not allow XL bullies to share their booking with anyone else.
🐾 The field bookings are ON and HALF PAST the hour. Playpark bookings all start at QUARTER PAST the hour. Please don't arrive before your booked time.
🐾 Unless you message me, left leads/dog garments will be found handing just outside the gate to the area you left them in. After a month they will be considered abandoned and given to charity.
🐾 We do allow dog walkers and group bookings- please get in touch via text on 07801576950 (day time only!)

We hope everyone is well.

🕔 It's lovely to feel the days stretching out and our closing time for the field stretching too.
🕔The playpark is open to 9pm all year round. It is lit up in the evenings (no additional charge!)

We are open again. We had the field closed for safety reasons.
We are missing some of our signs, but otherwise survived the storms.

🌪️The playpark is now open as it is more sheltered.

🌪️The field will be open from 1pm IF we feel it is safe to do so.

No major damage here. Some signs are missing and some small equipment taken away. The dog bag baskets also removed for now. Fencing all checked and good. We just worry about travel conditions as well as possibility of flying debris.

So we have it in black and white that rules for Scotland regarding XL bullies and their use of the dog fields has not changed since the ban came into force in England.
Notification sent to us about a policy change was generic as it is a UK company based in England. Therefore you CAN still have a xl bullies play date off lead with friends from a different household.
With ANY dog though, the advice is of course to be careful that they do get on. It is up to dog owners to be responsible over the dogs in their care.

Though we now know this does not apply to us in Scotland, it does apply in England....if you have an XL bully and going south for a wee holiday, from fields to kennels, the rules will have changed.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Our insurance has sent us some updated change in their policy re the XL bully.

The laws on this breed do not affect Scotland, however it has affected the conditions set by our insurers.

As such, some of the conditions for Private Field Hire and Dog walkers have now been amended. In their words:

♦️♦️♦️ If the household has more than 1 dog, they can come to the field together as long as they have a minimum of 1 handler. All dogs leads and muzzles can be removed once in the field including the XL Bully.

If there are dogs from different households, the banned breed will need to remain muzzled and on a lead at all times with a 1:1 handler..

I am trying to clarify further with respect to the fact we reside in Scotland and have no such ban. For now however we have to abide by the above until further notice.
This really just affects those with XL bullies who are meeting with others here from another household.
