I know it's not dogs but I'd like to highlight this brilliant rescue.
Grab a cuppa it's a long one.....
[ I managed Belleisle pets corner for its last ten years. I loved it, but the downside was to see cardboard boxes and cages left at our gates on a regular basis. We never advertised the fact the guineas and rabbits, hens and some birds found their way to us this way (we didn't need to give people ideas!). We are beyond full at times.
When council cut backs forced it's closure in 2009, it was a full operation to get all the animals into good homes. I'm happy to say it was done- not one single animal got PTS (thankyou to an amazing group who primarily tried to save the pets corner and the Ayrshire post for highlighting our plight for most of those pets had already been abandoned once before). Most birds went to Amazonia and most large animals to Arran. Rabbits and guineas mostly into family homes. I feel that needed said before questioned. I didn't have this place and found myself out of a job so I could only take the few remaining small animals]
Anyways because of my own experiences I understand this post completely. Dog. Cat, horse or guinea pig we owe it to them to do a bit of research on costs, time, space and care.
Of course genuine reasons can come up and hard decisions need to be made. Life plans don't always work out.
The guinea pig rescue is a really good thing to support.
