It’s nearly been a whole year since I set up Missy Paws Pet Sitting. Here are my five main takeaway points from my first year running a pet sitting business⬇️
1️⃣It is so exciting when you first set up a business - especially when people are interested in booking your services. I fell quickly into feeling like I had to say yes to every enquiry and felt terrible when having to say no. I’ve realised now it’s okay to set boundaries. Missy Paws Pet Sitting is my business and I choose what bookings to make.
2️⃣When setting up I had some imposter syndrome and felt bad charging people my full rate - especially as a newly formed business. I have lost £££ offering discounts that I could have made through other clients. Now I only charge my full rate & am looking at increasing prices. My rates are based on 10 years of animal care and welfare experiences/qualifications. If people don’t want to pay it they can find someone else!
3️⃣My pet sitting business is different to most that I see on social media. It is a hobby for me, something I do because I love animals. However, it isn’t my main income and I have a full-time job that I absolutely love! I realise now I can’t compare to others and shouldn’t. My business and how it is run works for me!
4️⃣It can be so easy to quickly respond to a client message and think nothing of it. Overtime I’ve realised this isn’t healthy and that I do need time off each day away from my business! I now think about when I message a business - I never expect a reply the same day so why did I put that stress on myself!
5️⃣In a ‘normal’ job you wouldn’t accept not having a day off. Yet when setting up a business I felt lazy when I had a day off. I felt like I wasn’t putting enough into it or that I needed to always fill up dates with bookings! Now I tell myself that I also have a life away from pet sitting and don’t need to be in business mode all the time!

I just love building bonds with so many different animals. Ludo is a great example!🖤
I started pet sitting Ludo in October and have since stayed with him numerous times.
We have built up a lovely bond and I am always excited to see him, when he’s booked in!
Seeing how comfortable he is around me is a indescribable feeling. From strangers to best friends.♥️
I cannot imagine how any dog feels when their owner is away, which is why I find it so special to be able to become their new friend who can make them feel safe and protected.🥰
