Recall without breaks 🐾🥰🐾
Apologies for our quietness on social media for a while, it’s been a really tough few weeks, both emotionally and physically in this crazy British summer! We haven’t been slacking though - still out and about when the weather permitted and today had the absolute joy of playing with this young man - recall, loose lead walking and ignoring cars were all on the agenda and he rocked it! His momma says he’s been asleep ever since, but he’s such a cool dude - all about easy wins in adolescence 🐾😊🐾
Another 6:30am walk and swim - today at River Meadow on the River Stour! Lola and her best friend having fun before it gets too hot!
Rapid Recall
Awesome work from this team last night at our Rapid Recall class! This juvenile doodle can get very distracted by the world around him but check out his focus when recalling back to his Momma 🐾🐶🐾 - their hard work is totally paying off 😊
Superstars
When a client who has been working with you for just a few weeks with their “super reactive JRT” sends you a clip of pure joy at a dog show last weekend! I’m so proud of this pair I could burst! 🐾😍🐾
Such a lovely review, thank you so much!
What a fab morning here at our wonderful local resource of Oaklands Secure field, and what a MASSIVE difference it has made to our experience by having the toys in a secure box! Usually I have a crazed doodle shouting at me to “throw the ball, throw the ball!!!” But today we had a calm, quiet sniffing adventure with a bit of agility practice on the side! Sooooo important to create an environment for our dogs to be able to calm themselves 🐾😇🐾
Loose lead walking is a skill that has to be practiced. Puppy’s necks are delicate and tugging them should be avoided at all costs. Here’s Lola off lead showing that she can manage about 8 steps before her concentration wavers 🐾😇🐾. Always practice FOR the situation, not IN it 😉
So with the weather outside so crazy today, we are not venturing out. Lola is entertaining herself (under supervision in case she decides to eat the bottle 🙈) with some kibble in a rinsed out orange juice bottle. We have lots of doggy puzzles and games that we play, but sometimes all it takes is some simple novelty 🐾😇🐾
Today Lola had an awesome time at River Meadow. We don’t play with sticks usually as I know how dangerous they can be but as she found her own stick in the river I was happy for her to bring it out with her.
Lovely start to the day being out and about with only Lola a real joy 🐾 - practicing her value in staying close to me whilst off lead with some “middle”, “middle on the move” and “magic hand”. All of these games help build our relationship and improve her on lead behaviour 🐾😇🐾
Beautiful early morning to practice recall with distractions (her bestie 🐾) whilst out and about! To make recall effective, Lola has to find the reward higher value than what she is leaving (her friend). Today we used home made chicken liver treats and it worked super well! 😇🐾😇
Powerful words written by Rosemary Dean in memory of her superstar Leonberger Iollo 🐾🥰🌈🥰🐾
Totally devastated to have to let you know that our dear friend Iolo passed away very suddenly over the weekend. Run free gorgeous boy - you helped so many pups in our classes over the last few weeks, thank you will never be enough 🐾 😢💔😢 🐾
Lola loves to dig! As gardens are quite often the place where our pups get up to mischief, we have created a lidded (essential if you have a cat 🐈⬛) sand pit in one corner so if she needs to let off some steam / lie when it’s warm / hunt down a treat or two, it’s literally lid off and game on! 🐾😇🐾
Ps ignore my slightly strange sniggering 🙈
Ignore the mess (it’s been all about dogs this week!), the sound track (film had just finished!) and the rubbish video quality (my phone isn’t good unless it’s bright light!), but we just wanted to share that Lola isn’t always the saintly pup you see on her videos! She is an adolescent (9 months) and from much experience we know that this is the most testing time for owners! Don’t despair, don’t yell, they grow up too quickly. Smile and record the antics - in another year it will give you something to look back on and realise just how far you have come! 🐾🤣🐾
