Awesome news for those of us with idiot dogs who chasing things, are a pain in the bum, dislike people, dogs, bikes, cars, flowers, beetles, the wind, road signs, horses, dust, cabbages, noisy leaves etc... you get my drift!

There is a lot of confusion circulating regarding whether it is legitimate to take your dog, by car, to a walking location – whether that’s a park, a layby or anywhere else. Each police force is allowed to interpret the government guidelines in line with their own area of jurisdiction and this is why we believe there has been so much confusion.
Various Police forces covering national parks are understandably frustrated with people using the exercise needs of their dogs as an excuse to go for a ramble across the hills. This is very different from taking your dog to a secure field to give it a thoroughly good run out – particularly for those who have no option to take their dogs from their doorstep for lots of reasons.
Freedom Dog Trails Riverside Meadow is in Cropredy near Banbury, served by Oxfordshire Police but also is very close to the Warwickshire border (where many of our customers travel from) so both Police forces have been consulted and both are saying the same thing.
𝐁𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐱𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐞 (𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐲) 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐰𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥 (within reason) 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐝𝐨𝐠𝐬 𝐢𝐟 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲, 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐱𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦.
The advice we have been given is that in the event that you are stopped and asked what you are doing, you explain clearly that your dog has specific needs that necessitate enclosed exercise and that you are travelling to a secure, exclusive place to do this. You are also advised to let them know that we have consulted (27th March 2020) with Banbury Police Station and after they took time to clarify their own position, they are happy that this qualifies as essential travel.
As you can imagine, this is a huge relief for us – I simply can’t imagine not being able to walk our reactive dog for the next however many weeks and we can’t thank Banbury Police enough for their compassion and understanding of people with challenging dogs.
