Today we are celebrating Sam who has had quite a week or two. Not only has she completed her nurses anaesthesia certificate exams but she has also taken the time to organise a charity shoebox donation, as well as getting our tree up ready for December!

Introducing Chloe, the newest member of our team! 🎉

Chloe joins us as a Veterinary Care Assistant working both as part of our clinical team and on reception. She brings with her several years of experience in veterinary practices and a real love of animals. We already cannot remember how we managed without her!

Feel good Friday 😊🎉!

Minerva (Minnie!) came to see us at Focus Referrals after developing corneal ulceration and a sequestrum in her right eye. We are happy to report that surgery, and the excellent care provided at home by her family, have resulted in a good recovery.

Our building is complete and what better way than to celebrate than to welcome some special guests - our referring veterinary colleagues! 🎉👏

It was great to cut the ribbon and test out our new facilities yesterday evening with food, drink and some informative talks and discussions with vets Mike, Helen and Mark. Thank you to all of those who made it after braving the extreme weather conditions! 🙂🌨

Feel Good Friday! 🎉

What better way to feel good than to up skill! It has been a great day of in-house anaesthesia CPD for our team at Focus Referrals making use of our new meeting room and eating delicious chocolate cake for Mike's birthday! All this while the sun shines..... Thank you to Karen and Jo for delivering a brilliant day of learning. 👏

Meet Kracker a beautiful 25 year-old Mackinders (Cape) Eagle Owl 🦉

Our vet James had the pleasure of meeting this more unusual patient who was brought to Focus Referrals with an eyelid lump and other complex issues including cataracts and conjunctivitis. Kracker and his expert handler enabled James to perform an examination, take a sample of the lump for analysis and start treatment to hopefully improve comfort and sight for him. ☺️

We hope that our client care team feel appreciated every day and so they should as the role they play at Focus Referrals is vital: from arranging appointments to liaising with referring vets, processing insurance claims and greeting our patients with their families!

Our vet James is completing a 3 year training residency in veterinary ophthalmology with us, with the goal of becoming a European diplomate and specialist in the field.
This is not an easy qualification to achieve and it is not only cats, dogs and rabbits that he needs to know all about. He has been out and about on farms building his knowledge of cows too! Just your average weekend.... 😊👀🐮

This week is 👁️ . Something that is very close to our hearts at Focus Referrals!

There can be several indicators that all is not well with your pet's eyes;
👀Excess tears or discharge
👀Cloudiness, dullness or colour change
👀Asymmetry
👀Redness
👀Vision loss
👀Discomfort - closing or rubbing the eye

Many eye conditions can be treated more successfully if caught early, so if you are concerned your pet might be suffering from any of the above, it would be worth seeing your vet 👩‍⚕️.

Introducing Mala who we have welcomed to our expanding team of Registered Veterinary Nurses at Focus Referrals 🎉💚

Mala joins Focus with a passion for anaesthesia and is already putting this into action with meticulous care of our patients undergoing operations here. She also enjoys meeting clients and talking to them about their furry family members! At home she enjoys spending time with her own spaniel Conker 🐶.

We are so close to finishing our new meeting area, clinical rooms and improved staff facilities 🤞🤞🏨.

The builders are on the final touches and soon we will be able to welcome our veterinary colleagues for CPD events, treat our patients in our improved facilities and provide comfortable relaxation areas for our hard working team! 🎉🎉

Meet Bailey and his birthday doggie cupcake ❤️🧁

This lovely boy has been seen at Focus Referrals and diagnosed with the condition uveodermatologic syndrome. This rare condition results in the body attacking itself, specifically the eyes and skin, resulting in loss of eyesight and painful glaucoma if left untreated. We are happy to report that Bailey has responded really well to his treatment and feels like a new dog with comfortable eyes and his sight intact!
