This week is 👁️ . Something that is very close to our hearts at Focus Referrals!

There can be several indicators that all is not well with your pet's eyes;
👀Excess tears or discharge
👀Cloudiness, dullness or colour change
👀Asymmetry
👀Redness
👀Vision loss
👀Discomfort - closing or rubbing the eye

Many eye conditions can be treated more successfully if caught early, so if you are concerned your pet might be suffering from any of the above, it would be worth seeing your vet 👩‍⚕️.

Introducing Mala who we have welcomed to our expanding team of Registered Veterinary Nurses at Focus Referrals 🎉💚

Mala joins Focus with a passion for anaesthesia and is already putting this into action with meticulous care of our patients undergoing operations here. She also enjoys meeting clients and talking to them about their furry family members! At home she enjoys spending time with her own spaniel Conker 🐶.

We are so close to finishing our new meeting area, clinical rooms and improved staff facilities 🤞🤞🏨.

The builders are on the final touches and soon we will be able to welcome our veterinary colleagues for CPD events, treat our patients in our improved facilities and provide comfortable relaxation areas for our hard working team! 🎉🎉

Meet Bailey and his birthday doggie cupcake ❤️🧁

This lovely boy has been seen at Focus Referrals and diagnosed with the condition uveodermatologic syndrome. This rare condition results in the body attacking itself, specifically the eyes and skin, resulting in loss of eyesight and painful glaucoma if left untreated. We are happy to report that Bailey has responded really well to his treatment and feels like a new dog with comfortable eyes and his sight intact!

We would like to introduce Cat who we have welcomed to our growing team of veterinary surgeons at Focus Referrals 👋.

Cat shares our love of ophthalmology, having completed a residency (an intense 3 year training post alongside qualified specialists) and is hoping to achieve her goal of becoming a diplomate soon. We can already see Cat's love of interacting with our patients, meeting our clients and pride in providing an excellent service for our referring vets. 👁🐶🐱

Meet Ted. This lovely boy visited Focus Referrals today for his regular check up. 💙🐶

Ted sadly lost his left eye last year to Primary Closed Angle Glaucoma, a condition where the pressure in the eye increases resulting in painful blindness. We are now doing all we can to preserve the sight in his right eye including laser treatment and eye drops, which his owners have been expertly applying! 👏

It was great to have fun with the Focus team and their families (human and dog!) at the weekend. A barbeque, highly competitive game of rounders, a few campers and even mostly dry weather made for a lovely day! 🏃‍♀️🎉⛺️🐕

Meet Thor, a beautiful Golden Retriever, who visited Focus Referrals for his check up today. 🐶

Thor is part of Dogs For Good and visits us regularly having had cataract surgery in the past. Such a lovely dog who was enjoying his tummy tickles in the waiting room today. ☺️💚

Thank you for your ongoing understanding while our premises undergo improvement.

We now have a new staff relaxation area and our CPD meeting room is taking shape! We are looking forward to sharing these improvements with our community of veterinary colleagues in the near future. 🎉

Meet Chester ❤🐱

The sweetest Sphynx who visited Focus Referrals earlier this week for treatment of a corneal sequestrum. This is a collection of dead cells on the cornea which can cause discomfort, infection and even loss of the eye if not treated.

Careful microsurgery was performed on Chester to remove the sequestrum and patch up the gap left. We were pleased to hear from his owner that he has recovered well. We will be monitoring his eye and doing all we can to ensure a successful outcome for this lovely, friendly boy! ☺

Our upstairs renovation at Focus Referrals is making good progress! 🎉

When Floyd came to see us at Focus Referrals this week he found a snuggly spot in our feline consulting room in the sink!

His owner told us that this has always been one of his happy places and we were pleased to accommodate him wherever he felt most safe ☺️. What a handsome boy he is! ❤️🐱

Following on from Earth Day, we wanted to share the further measures that we are undertaking at Focus Referrals to reduce our impact on our planet.... 🌱🌎

We choose our suppliers carefully, minimise deliveries and go for products where possible that are reusable, biodegradable or made from recycled materials. Wipeable check lists, paper free management, careful anaesthetic gas use and meticulous waste management are all part of this drive.

We can make a difference!! 😀

Happy Earth Day🌍☺ !

At Focus Referrals we are working hard on our sustainability and to reduce our carbon paw print! After all the earth is home to all sorts of animals, including us.... 🌱

Today we celebrate the re-use of bubble wrap and baby socks to keep our patients warm, the use of washable blankets, reusable operating gowns, scrub caps and washable shoes. Even our everyday uniform is partly made from recycled plastic bottles!

What better way to feel good at Focus Referrals than to have a lovely litter of golden retrievers in for a cuddle (officially to examine eyes)! These puppies were in for their BVA eye test with Mike and all did brilliantly in what was a totally new experience for them. It is so great to see responsible breeding in action. 🐶☺️

Really glad to hear that Sansa is doing well and that we were able to help. What a lovely photo 🥰

Sansa got a thorn through her eye this morning. It wasn’t pretty. Our local vet sent us to an eye vet surgeon. He did lots of tests to check that nothing was left remaining that he would have to surgically remove to save her eye. Vets are amazing. Happy to report that Sansa will live to see another day, with both eyes.

Dexter came to see us at Focus Referrals after developing cataracts in both eyes due to diabetes. His owner left this lovely review which has made our hearts melt almost as much as Dexter himself ❤.
