โ ๏ธGRAPHIC CONTENT INVOLVING EYESโ ๏ธ. ๐ The lovely Boo was brought into us this morning by his owner after he presented with a sore eye. On closer examination, our vet David discovered that there was actually a splinter in the cornea of the eye which required extraction. As you can see on the video, the splinter thankfully came out very smoothly. Boo was given medication for the eye and a contact lense was placed to aid the healing process. ๐๏ธ

๐บ Why do cats meow? ๐บ
Almost 2,000 people ask Google every month why cats meow! ๐บ
Cats meow as a means of communication. Here's an expansion on why cats meow:
1. Expression of Happiness or Greeting: Cats often meow as a way to say hello or show their excitement when they see you. It can be an expression of their happiness to be around you.
2. Affection and Attention: Cats may meow to seek your attention or affection. They might want to be petted, cuddled, or just have some interaction with you.
3. Hunger or Thirst: One of the most common reasons for meowing is to signal their hunger or thirst. Cats use this vocalization to let you know it's mealtime.
4. Discomfort or Pain: Sometimes, cats meow to communicate discomfort or pain. If your cat is ill or in pain, they may meow to alert you to their distress.
5. Loneliness: Cats are social animals, and if they feel lonely or isolated, they might meow to express their desire for companionship.
6. Wanting to Go Out: If your cat is an indoor-outdoor pet, they might meow when they want to go outside or return indoors.
7. Stress or Anxiety: Cats can meow more when they are stressed or anxious. Changes in their environment or routine can trigger increased vocalization.
8. Playfulness: Kittens, in particular, may meow during play as a way of engaging with you or their littermates.
9. Communication with Other Cats: Cats also meow to communicate with other cats, especially during mating or territorial disputes.
10. Aging and Cognitive Changes: Senior cats might meow more due to cognitive changes associated with aging.
It's essential to pay attention to your cat's meowing to understand their specific needs or emotions. If you notice a sudden or significant change in their meowing patterns, it's a good idea to consult with a veterinarian, as it could be a sign of an underlying health issue.

This is Bailey, who came to visit us recently. He had developed a cough that wasn't settling down. After listening to his lungs our vet David noted Bailey's heart murmur had got a bit louder. Heart murmurs are a whooshing sound that can be heard using a stethoscope. They commonly arise from a leaky valve in the heart. Scanning the heart can pinpoint the problem. The video shows the heart valve, which is thickened in the middle.
If you have any concerns about a cough that isn't resolving or want your pet's heart checked you can book an appointment with one of the vets http://mhill.vet/u7k4t9
