I am a qualified freelance equine groom and experienced dog owner, providing an equine care & dog walking service to my local community.

**Temporary Closed!!! On Maternity Leave**

BIO:
After leaving school I entered the equine industry carrying out my apprenticeship at a riding stable/livery yard. Here I gained my SVQ's level 2 and level 3, both in horse care & management with riding. From her

e I went on to Bishop Burton College to study Equine Management, Business & Equitation where I gained my degree in Equine Science. Whilst studying I gained more experience working for Summit Media at their Polo Yard, at weekends during my first year. I went on to work on the college yard over the summer along with working at an equine only veterinary practise covering a period of staff illness & holidays. On completion of my degree I went on to work as an assistant manager for a private showing yard in North Yorkshire where I looked after 7 horses, helped with backing youngsters and bringing others back into work and ready for competition. I now own my own thoroughbred ex-race horse who has been part of my life over the last 8 years, and a little Welsh Section A who I took on from World Horse Welfare approximately a year ago. Having owned my own dogs for many years and having dogs as part of my family my whole life I decided it was time to incorporate them into my working life as well! Business Goal:
My aim for each client is to enhance quality of life for your equine or pet. I would like to meet all clients before or at first bookings along with their owners to get to know their own routines so I can keep these the same as much as possible to try and reduce any unnecessary stress which could be created by someone new entering their environment. Infection Control:
In light of our ever changing environment I require customers to advise if they are feeling unwell before I enter their premises. In event of someone with covid-19 (or a similar strain) needing help caring for their animals, I will wear full PPE when around them and leave my used PPE for that client to dispose of with along their house hold waste on my departure. I will also regularly use hand sanitizer where hot water is not available to wash my hands between clients from different locations, along with gloves and other items of PPE if I feel are necessary to protect you as my client and myself (along with my family). I have also been vaccinated against COVID-19.

*This service has public liability insurance and 3rd party insurance, to cover against any unforeseen situations. I am also a member of the British Grooms Association, my insurance for freelance work is through KBIS*

Would you recognise a case of colic if you saw it?

Did you know, colic is one of the most common causes of death in horses? Colic is a potentially life-threatening disease, so it is important that you contact your vet immediately if your horse is showing any of the following symptoms:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Restless and agitated โ€“ e.g. trying to lie down, repeatedly rolling
๐Ÿ‘‰ Abdominal pain โ€“ e.g. kicking at the belly, pawing at the ground
๐Ÿ‘‰ Eating less or fewer (if any) droppings being passed
๐Ÿ‘‰ Increased heart rate, rapid breathing, abnormal gum colour, or abrasions over the eyes
๐Ÿ‘‰ Tired or lethargic โ€“ e.g., lying down more than usual, dull, and depressed

If you would like further advice on colic, you can call our friendly advice team on 01953 497 238

Thank you to all who is involved, the service tomorrow us going to be one like no other ๐Ÿ’”

We are thinking of the Mounted Police, Household Cavalry, the Kingโ€™s Troop Royal Horse Artillery and all the service men and women, who have been working so hard to prepare the horses ahead of the Queenโ€™s funeral procession.

Thank you for your service, dedication, and impeccable turnout.

You are all in our thoughts during this period of national mourning.

So my life has been rather busy since Matthew joined us 8weeks ago, but how time has flown!! He has been enjoying the company of his big brother, and meeting all our animals. Little Matthew has also been joining me on dog walks and helping me bring Little Harry pony back into work so hopefully his older brother can enjoy some lovely rides on him over the summer holidays ๐Ÿ’œ

I am still on Maternity leave, though I have started visiting a couple of my regular clients if they are needing any one of assistance etc.

Life with two kids is definitely a juggle, along side lots of entertainment and enjoyment at times too making it very rewarding.

Working again is something I will look towards when both boys are bigger, and so less dependant. Saying this I am still happy to help or give advise etc if required.
Feel free to get in touch if you have a query/need assistance - if I can make things work around childcare or I deem it safe for me to work alongside having Matthew along with me, I will be happy to help.

Best wishes

Burgie Horse Trials

After 45 years of national and international eventing competitions it is with a heavy heart that we announce that the British Eventing Horse Trails to be held on 3rd July 2022 will be the final Horse Trials at Burgie.

From humble beginnings in 1977 through the flourishing years of the late โ€™90 and early 2000โ€™s, Burgie grew to being one of the largest competitor Three Day Events in the world, with the core objectives of good fun and good sport. Many future equine champions have cut their Three-Day Event teeth on the hills at Burgie and the great and good from the eventing world have enjoyed the long daylight days and fabulous views from the top of the hill.

This has been a very difficult family decision, as all of us at Burgie are well aware of the enormous contributions that have been made over the years to make Burgie so internationally synonymous with the sport and the significant community which has embraced the venue from around Scotland. It is testament to this community that there are still key team members and volunteers from the original event in 1977 that will be active for the final running on the 3rd July 2022 and we would like to pay tribute to the hard working Horse Trials Committee and the many volunteers whom have made this event so great over so many years and who have given so much time, energy, and hard work into the running of eventing at Burgie over the past 45 years.

We are also sincerely grateful for the years of commitment made by the riders, owners, sponsors and so many more who have embraced Burgie Horse Trials and embodied all that is good about the sport of eventing.

We hope the sun will shine and everyone will have fun on Sunday 3rd July.

Best wishes

Hedgehog season ๐Ÿฆ”๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿฆ”

People are starting to find nests with babies in PLEASE do not touch the babies. If you do, one of two things will happen, either mum will run away or she'll kill them.

Never get your smell on them, never use them as a photo opportunity. Please check areas carefully before gardening and if you find a nest back off. If necessary then call a rescue before doing anything else.

If you find a nest with babies and no sign of mum, back off, watch from a distance as she may well be nearby. Give her time to come back. Call a rescue for advice.

If the hoglets are in danger from cats, dogs or birds and mum hasn't returned after a couple of hours put an upturned box over the nest and immediately call The New Arc Wildlife Hospital on 07962 253867

NETTLES.
Lots of young nettles coming up now they are a powerhouse for your horses. If you have them on your land you can cut them down let them wilt for a few days on the ground and let your horse hoover them up.
Or pick your own to dry them for future use, pick on a dry morning and hang till dry feed a good handful daily. The sting will be gone once fully dry.
Excellent spring tonic, blood builder and helps with shedding out.

๐ŸŒž let's hope this morning is the start of the better weather, is spring on its way?! ๐Ÿคž๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ’ž

Choose to be grateful.

I turned my horses out this morning, wishing their paddocks were just a little bit closer so I could have an extra 10 minutes in bed. 1500 miles away, horse owners are walking their beloved friends to forests and fields and letting them go, hoping they have given them the best chance of survival, not knowing if theyโ€™ll ever see them again.

I walked down to the arena yesterday, looking to the sky, cursing the rain as it fell. 1500 miles away they are stood watching the sky for missles and planes, praying that the distant explosions donโ€™t get any closer.

I complained about the price of fuel today, how was I supposed to pay for that on top of hay, shoes, training and entry fees? 1500 miles away owners are risking their lives for a bale of hay or bag of feed after deliveries were unable to reach people and supplies were exhausted.

I started to make a plan working towards my first event of the season today and found myself frustrated at the lack of places to do some good canter work. 1500 miles away, people are just praying theyโ€™ll survive the next 24 hours. They are simply grateful for every passing minute their barns are left standing and that they are still breathing.

I sat in traffic today, annoyed that I might not make it home with time to ride. 1500 miles away, people are sheltering underground for days as their cities and hometowns are surrounded, with no means or way of escaping.

So today, let go of the little things and choose to be grateful.
Be grateful that all you see in the sky is clouds.
Be grateful that your house and yard is still standing.
Be grateful that your horse is stood eating hay or out grazing without threat.
Be grateful that you can still ride and enjoy your horses.
Be grateful that you, and your horses, are safeโ€ฆ and pray for those that arenโ€™t.

10/01/2022

As we enter further into 2022 I feel it's time to announce some changes that are happening within FourHooves this coming year.

Firstly I would like to let everyone know I love my little business, being able to help clients with their horses and enabling holidays for owners who may struggle for a rest or get to family gatherings etc. From this Thank You to everyone who has either used my services, shared my page or recommended me to friends. All has been much appreciated and led to many of you now being classed as friends โค.

Secondly, this will be news to some of you, though I know many of you know already... I am currently 5.5months pregnant๐Ÿคฐwe are expecting our new baby to join our family this April๐ŸŽ‰.

This leads on to a few changes to be required in the coming months, as I will not be able to provide all of the services I have in the past.
My first job has always been my family, primarily looking after my 3yr old. My animals have always been my lifestyle and first love which I do not plan on giving up. This said, as I change from having one child to two I know it will come with some new challenges.

From the end of February I will be on maternity leave, I do however have a very small amount of regular clients I will be continuing to assist for a longer period of time due to them understanding my circumstances.

I have decided I will be closing my diary for new clients due to the uncertainty of how much of a service I will safely be able to carry out after April due to having a newborn and minimal childcare. If anyone is struggling to get assistance for holiday covers etc feel free to get in touch and I will discuss in depth what your requirements are and advise if I would be prepared to assist and what would happen if I was.

Lastly, while my work is changing to be more family focused for a while I am planning on using my page as more of a blog into life as a horsey/doggie/country mum. As I continue to look after my own horses and pets, care for my newborn along with a toddler in tow whilst giving a little bit of an insight into some of the challenges and precious moments into my lifestyle at home.

If anyone has any thing they are unsure if I can help with please just get in touch,

Otherwise, best wishes for 2022. I hope it brings loads of exciting times and memories for everyone. L x
