One for the German Shepherd lovers!! They are one of the favourites here at Glenn Vet Clinic.

This handsome young chap is Coby. Isn’t he gorgeous? 😍

Coby has some very big shoes to fill, but he is trying his very best and has certainly put a smile on his Daddy’s face. We can’t wait to watch this lovely boy grow up.

Welcome to the practice Coby! ❤️

Could little Marty be the poster boy for our Healthy Pet Club? 📸😍

Marty was in with nurse Cerys yesterday for his free nail clip as part of his Healthy Pet Club membership. He was the perfect patient and sat like a pro while he had his nails trimmed. Marty is a credit to his parents. ❤️

Marty says the Healthy Pet Club is great! 👍

In Northern Ireland we aren’t used to getting long periods of nice weather, we are often under prepared but over excited when we see that lovely golden glow in the sky!

Our pets are the same. They aren’t acclimatised to the heat and do not cope well with the sudden changes in temperature and humidity. Even a small increase in temperature can cause heat stroke.

Try to be well prepared and avoid walking your dog during the hottest hours. Make sure cats have a shady place to lie and bring rabbits and guinea pigs inside if they are in hot wooden hutches. Frozen bottles of water make great cooling blocks to lie against.

Vets now have some great information in the link below.

Gorgeous boy Finlay was in with us this morning for his routine blood pressure check.

He is the perfect patient, always sits quietly while the nurses hook him up to the blood pressure monitor.

Did you know that older cats can be prone to high blood pressure? Often as a result of an overactive thyroid. High blood pressure can cause heart and kidney issues if left untreated.

Finlay will be back in a month for his next blood pressure check. ❤️

Could you spot signs of stress?

🐱 Believe it or not, but cats are exceptionally prone to stress and stress related health issues. Even the most confident, out going cats can be masking signs of stress. It’s all about being able to notice subtle changes in their behaviour which can indicate that your cat is unhappy and is being affected by stress.

🐱 Cats are good at hiding when they are unwell, they have to. Despite being predators they are vulnerable and can feel upset and threatened by even the smallest thing. This leads to stress related behaviours and potentially very serious health issues.

🐱 In the image there is just a very condensed list of things your cat may do if it is suffering with chronic stress. This is not an exhaustive list, it’s only a few of the most common behaviours cat owners notice. Any change, no matter how small, can be an indication there is a problem.

We see a large number of cats with FLUTD (Feline Lower Urinary Tracy Disease) this is caused by stress and is one of the most common illnesses that occur as a result of stress. FLUTD can be fatal in some cases.

Over or under grooming is another very common problem. Cats are meticulous about their personal hygiene. In times of stress they can become obsessive about cleaning themselves, and may even focus their intention on one area causing painful skin lesions. Equally they can stop grooming altogether which will lead to a dry, scurfy coat which will matt and become painful.

Some cats may also become particularly fussy with their food. Their eating habits may chop and change or their appetite can begin to decline. In severe cases cats will vomit intermittently as the lining of their stomach has become inflamed due to not eating properly.

There are plenty of ways we can help minimise the stress our cats feel which we will discuss in another post. A stress free life really is good for their health!

Meet Pebble. ❤️

This beautiful lady come in to see us every four weeks for her Solensia injection. This injection helps to manage her pain from age related arthritis. Solensia has given Pebble a new lease of life and has improved her quality of life considerably, she is more mobile and clearly much happier and more comfortable within herself.

Arthritis is one of the most common conditions affecting older cats, yet it is still often under diagnosed. It can be hard to tell when a cat is in pain as they are very good at hiding symptoms of illness!

Often only subtle changes in the cats behaviour indicate that there could be something amiss. They bottle it all up until they can’t cope anymore.

Zoetis have a great little quiz that you can take to determine if your cat would benefit from a visit to the vets for a check up.
