Very excited to announce we will be holding a meeting for pet pig owners and perspective owners.
Last night Olivia drove down to speak to farm keen vet students at the University of Nottingham. She talked about on call farm emergencies from a new graduate perspective. Students enjoyed hearing how to manage the less than ideal situations and Olivia enjoyed reminiscing about her first year as a vet. 🐄🐑
In England & Wales, all bird keepers must register by 1 October 24.
By registering you will help manage potential avian disease outbreaks & limit any spread.
If you have a CPH and already registered, you do not need to re-register.

The risk remains high across the UK, and the increasing temperatures this week and continued rainfall make very favourable conditions for blow fly egg development
Development into maggots and skin damage will occur quickly, so be vigilant.

Well Done Laura! 👏🥳
Fantastic day had by all and lots learnt 🐖 🐷
Today Daisy and Pam attended a day of pig related CPD in Barnard Castle. In the morning they refreshed their knowledge on vaccinations, worming, farrowing, artificial insemination and common pig diseases with some interesting lectures. In the afternoon they took part in a practical session focusing on post mortems, euthanasia, blood sampling and catheter placement. Thank you to for organising a very informative day 🐷 🐽 🐖

Super busy week last week for the team at Castle Farm Vets.
Olivia went to visit a primary school to talk to the some of the younger classes about being a vet, the children had a great afternoon and Olivia was flooded with thank you letters saying what they had learnt from her - Well done Olivia! ⭐️⭐️
We had an open Flock Health Club meeting 🐑 usually our FHC meetings are for members only however, last week we opened up to non-members, the meeting included a post mortem demonstration and talk from Ben Strugnell of Farm Post Mortems and was a great success.

Have you seen us a Scotsheep? If not pop over and say Hi!
Set up and ready for Scotsheep - See you tomorrow!!
Olivia and Lucy have been out doing knock down disbudding and castrating today. Some wagyu companies require sedating for castrating and disbudding. This allows a stress free procedure for the calves as well as allowing us to get on a bit quicker. They did 120 today! 💪🏻🤩🌟
This Thursday - Sign up now !!

Some very useful advice from Elanco Farm Animal Health UK
Did you know we can perform worm egg counts in practice at Barnard Castle and have results ready in as little at 20mins.
Call the practice on 01833 695695 to discuss how this can benefit your farm.
During the grazing season, performing faecal egg counts (FEC) every three to four weeks is recommended to accurately highlight worm burdens and therefore help you keep on top of worm control.
What are the benefits of frequent testing?
🪱 Avoids treating for worms when there isn’t a problem, reducing risk of resistance build-up
🪱 Reduces cost of unnecessary treatment
🪱 Allows potential problems to be nipped in the bud

🇺🇦 Will and Luke unloaded all the supplies into Andy's ambulance at midnight last night. Andy wanted to let everyone know that it was the biggest and most useful load he has received yet. They filled the ambulance to the brim and 3 boxes high on the roof rack! Thank you again to everyone who donated - this will really make a difference to a lot of people 🇺🇦
Martin one of our senior vets at our Barnard Castle Practice, has just sent us this video from one of his morning farm routines.... 🐄 What a relief! 🐄

Tupping time is almost finished for some and just starting for others. It is not too late to fertility test tups in later lambing flocks to ensure that they are ready for the job ahead of them. It is also an excellent time to collect semen from tups for freezing as they will be in the mood for work and therefore likely to produce a really good quality semen sample. Freezing semen from a tup is a relatively simple process that we can carry out at our surgery and is an excellent insurance policy should the worst happen to a high genetic merit animal.
