Outward-Hound Pet Services Professional, reliable and friendly. My name is Jo and I started Outward-Hound in 2010 after getting our RSPCA rescue dog, Charlie.

Charlie inspired me to start Outward-Hound, first of all offering dog walking and home-boarding services, which then led me to my passion of dog training. Now, Outward-Hound offers not only dog walking and home-boarding, but home stay pet sitting services, as well as dog training. At Outward-Hound, training is not just about training your dog to โ€˜stayโ€™ (although we do teach that!), I am passionate

about helping owners get the best from their dog. The classes are fun and informative, including essential life skills. You have the option to take part in the Kennel Club Good Citizen scheme as well as the APDT Good Companion awards. I also offer live online classes, including micro-courses to help with things such as recall and walking nicely on the lead.

When we first adopted him, I discovered he struggled with being left alone. He tried to dig his way out of the kitchen, and it broke my heart to see him so distressed. The advice I received at the time - punishment and crating - didnโ€™t sit right with me.

So I decided to take matters into my own hands. With time, patience, and a structured approach, I helped Charlie feel safe and confident when left on his own. That experience taught me the power of trust, patience, and understanding - and sparked a passion to help other owners facing similar challenges.

I became a Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer to support more people and their dogs in overcoming separation anxiety.

๐ŸพMy journey started with two very special dogsโ€”Charlie and Percyโ€”who inspired me to turn my passion for dogs into a career.

Charlie, our first rescue, struggled with separation anxiety. Helping him overcome his fears taught me the power of patience, trust, and understanding. Percy, on the other hand, was a rebellious teenager who tested every boundary imaginable! He showed me the importance of resilience and meeting dogs where they are.

Chloe, a 13-year-old Bouvier, has been a cherished part of our Golden Oldies class since it began. Injured in a car accident at a young age, Chloe was left incontinent and with limited mobility. But her spirit has never wavered.

When Chloe started the class, she could only join in for 20 minutes before needing to rest. She can now train and potter around for the full class! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’›

Her progress, from learning cues like โ€œleave itโ€ to building her stamina, shows just how much senior dogs can thrive with gentle training and enrichment.

Our Story

My name is Jo, and I am passionate about dog training!

As well as having 10 years experience in training dogs professionally, I am a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer, a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, an Animal Behaviour & Training Council Registered Animal Training Instructor, a volunteer trainer for Dog A.I.D (Assistance in Disability) and I have a FdSc in Canine Training and Behaviour and a BSc (hons) in Canine Behaviour Management.

I am VERY passionate about training PET DOGS. I want you, the owner, to have the skills to help your pet dog reach their potential, to have the necessary life skills and to truly be your best friend. Classes are both informative and fun, I keep the class sizes small to ensure we work to the level of you and your dog, and to ensure you both get the most from the classes. My one-to-one sessions ensure you have my undivided attention, and we are able to work on specific training needs you may have.

At Outward-Hound, training is not just about training your dog to โ€˜stayโ€™ (although we do teach that!), as well as pet obedience and puppy classes, essential life skills, including behaviours to help with vet and grooming visits are also included. The Kennel Club Puppy Foundation and Good Citizen Training Scheme Bronze to Gold and Association of Pet Dog Trainers Good Companion Awards are also available. Pet services: Dog walking, pet visits, home boarding and home stay pet sitting visits. All of our dog walking and home boarding team have completed a certified canine first aid course and are DBS checked. Our home boarding team are fully licensed by BMBC.
