Merry Christmas to you all! Just a little heads up if you’re planning on burning off that Christmas dinner with a dog walk on the beach, it appears to have been reported on local pages that palm oil has been washed up on our stretch of coastline, most likely as a consequence of the recent storms. This waxy substance is very attractive to dogs, but if ingested can cause pancreatitis. This extremely painful condition can cause severe abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea and lethargy. In some cases hospitalisation is necessary and can be serious. Please be super vigilant if you are walking your dogs on the coastline and if you suspect your dog may have ingested some, please don’t hesitate to get in touch, DO NOT wait for symptoms to develop. Here’s nurse Yolanda and her Labrador Conan, who is looking very festive in his smart Christmas jumper! Conan is one of our older staff dogs, who will be celebrating his 15th birthday in March. His favourite things are eating and sleeping!

The team at MiNight would like to wish you all a happy and healthy Christmas and New Year. We sincerely hope you won’t need us but if you do, there will be a vet and two nurses on duty during the nights and bank holidays over the festive season.

Did you know we don’t just treat domestic pets? Sometimes wildlife can find itself in a bit of a predicament too. ALL wildlife casualties are assessed by a vet and where possible, are treated and either released or sent to a trained wildlife rehabber. Just last night our exotics and wildlife ward had a couple of prickly patients who were found to be carrying lungworm. After an assessment and some treatment they were back on the ward tucking into a nice bowl of grub! Aren’t they cute?

**MEET THE TEAM**

Gina Corti RVN

Gina is one of MiNight’s fantastic nursing team, having previously been part of the day team at Charter Veterinary Hospital.
Gina says that the best part of the job is watching animals go from really poorly to being well enough to go home and she has a particular interest in anaesthesia. She has completed her Ncert in anaesthesia which she puts to good use for the more critical patients requiring surgery.

In her spare time she’s normally seen either out walking keeping her gorgeous dogs show fit or helping on the farm at home. She has 3 Staffordshire bull terriers and a kelpie who is just learning to work on the farm so there’s never a dull moment!

If you have lost your two companions please can you call the practice as soon as possible on 01271 318050

Juat so that we don't cause worry, we can confirm they are both fit and well.

Once contact is made, will then be able to confirm their breeds directly with the owners.

Kind regards MNV

❤️❤️Meet the team❤️❤️

Yolanda Jones CertVNECC RVN

Yolanda is one of our night nurses and having worked for Argyll vets for 8 years, decided to give the dark side a try and has been with MiNight from its infancy back in 2019. She qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in 2005 having worked in practice for many years prior to that. This year she is proud to have achieved her certification in emergency and critical care. She loves the challenges that ECC work brings and the opportunities to really utilise her nursing skills.

She has always loved animals from a very early age and currently lives with a menagerie of animals including an elderly Labrador, two African Grey parrots, a Quaker parrot, tortoise and bearded dragon, who all keep her on her toes! She has kept many other pets in her time including hamsters, rats, rabbits, ferrets, a cat, budgies, cockatiels, a cockatoo, freshwater and marine fish, African Dwarf frogs and even the odd praying mantis, stick insects and African land snails! In her spare time she can be found listening to her vinyl collection or in the kitchen cooking up a storm!
