Peace Lilys Pet Crematorium

Peace Lilys Pet Crematorium A legacy of our family’s beloved dog Lily, located on our beautiful family farm in Shirwell, Barnstaple, North Devon. About me:
My name is Amy. The list goes on!
(53)

Let me introduce myself and tell you about how Peace Lily's came to be. I qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in 2006. I am passionate about my job and love working with both people and animals. I have worked in multiple different practices in the South and South West and as a result have gained extensive nursing experience. I am still a practicing nurse in the local area, this allows me to

keep my knowledge current and relevant. I live on a peaceful, 5 acre farm in Shirwell that has stunning views with my young active family and our 2 dogs. We love going on long walks, Heddons Mouth is definitely one of our favourites. Lily's story:
On 18th June 2020 I had to have my beloved dog of thirteen and a half years put to sleep. Lily was a member of our family. She had come to me in a dreadful state as a 8 week old puppy suffering with an immune condition called Puppy Strangles. I had nursed her through many conditions in her lifetime ranging from bilateral cruciate repairs, corneal ulcer, splenectomy, irritable bowel and two blood transfusions. She had been my rock, my soul mate and I wanted her passing dealt with the respect she deserved. I could not face the thought of leaving my Lily at work all alone and making her final journey without me. I went about sourcing my own arrangements for her final journey. After extensive searching, I stumbled across a lovely private pet crematorium near Bridgewater. Although this meant driving one and a half hours with Lily on my lap, (my husband was driving), I felt I was left with little choice but to make this journey with my 2 young children in the car. The set-up and service was perfect! I reluctantly left Lily with the gentleman and was able to collect her ashes 2 hours later. Remains I whole-heartedly knew were hers due to the small bag he handed back to me containing the metal work that had been placed in her legs years previously, metal work he had no clue about when I left her there. On the drive home, I was left awe struck at the service we had just received and I began pondering why we in North Devon did not have such a service available locally. It is on this experience and my personal values that Peace Lily's was founded. We already had the perfect setting. I began researching, planning, talking and the idea has now become YOUR reality! Peace Lily's Services:
Peace Lily's offers a bespoke bereavement service centered around you and your pet. This includes:
* Brevement and euthanasia planning:
Planning for these traumatic situations ensures they are more manageable and flow more smoothly on the day. Although these topics can be difficult to discuss , Peace Lily's is here to support you through these processes.
* Individual pet cremation
* Return of you pets ashes in a dignified caring manner with various memorial options available.
* Aftercare bereavement support

Peace Lily's will be providing you these services, to save grieving pet owners and families the heart ache of enduring the extended wait and impersonal cremation process or a long drive to either Exeter or Bridgewater. We will offer you a service that treats you and you beloved pet with the care and dignity that you both deserve on that final journey. I have worked with amazing teams over the years in my veterinary career and am so grateful to have that experience behind me. This will enable me to provide the most caring and compassionate of services to you. Peace Lilys aims to be plastic free and all cremations will be performed individually. Please feel free to ring me to discuss any aspect of these services from planning your pets euthanasia, preparing a child for pet berevement to managing grief and cremation options.

The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.
You will be sad, I understand;
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.
We've had so many happy years -
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer so;
The time has come, so let me go.
Take me where my needs they'll tend
And please stay with me until the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.
Please do not grieve - it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years -
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

The Pack isn't just about places we work with, but also about services we have received and feel that we are able to recommend.

As most of you are aware, we lost Dexter a few weeks ago. Amy and her family from Peace Lilys Pet Crematorium provided bespoke bereavement services centred around us.. They also provide services for bereavement to euthanasia planning, they can help these situations be more manageable and go as smoothly as possible for all. As someone who was in no way ready for Dexter to leave us, they were incredibly kind and compassionate.

here is our very own Kelsey's tattoo she had done after losing Jake last year. The paw print was carried out on Jake by Amy after he was put to sleep and we think it's a beautiful tribute ❤️🐾

Sometimes, assessing whether your pet still has a good quality of life can be really tricky. Especially when their condition changes gradually, over time.

It's important for us as pet owners, to be able to recognise when things may be getting too much for our fur babies, and when to consider euthanasia as a kind option.

Quality of life can't be measured by one element. Mobility, mental health, behaviour, toileting, pain, and appetite are all factors to consider when evaluating quality of life.

There are many quality of life assessment tools available online to help. But please feel free to reach out if you're struggling.

At Peace Lilys we try and support other local small businesses. I came accross this page this morning and they really do offer some lovely pieces of memorial jewellery!

We can put a small amount of your pets ashes into a little glass vial, upon request, if you wish to get a memorial piece made. 💝

What a beautiful day it has been here at Peace Lilys HQ ☀️

This is our entrance. When you arrive, please open the gate, drive through and shut the gate behind you again due to livestock. 🐑🐄

Drive all the way down the drive, which is about 1/4 of a mile (and is being resurfaced tomorrow 🥳) and you'll find Peace Lilys reception next to our house at the bottom.

We'd like to continue to express our sincere thanks to everyone who supports and reccommends our little business. 💝

Deciding when the right time to consider euthanasia for your fur baby can be a tremendously difficult time. We at Peace Lilys, understand. We've had our own personal experiences.

The what ifs...

The dread of making the decision too early or too late...

The feelings of guilt...

The wishing you didn't have to make that decision.

We are hoping to communicate some helpful guidance on our page in the coming weeks and months, with the hope of helping you when the time to consider euthanasia, is approaching.

In the mean time, if you have any queries regarding our home euthanasia or pet cremation services, please do give us a call. 💝

Peace Lilys - meet the team 💝

Many of you would have met Bob - Amy's Dad! Bob spends a lot of time on the farm, working on projects and keeping himself busy.

But he has also taken on such a vital role within Peace Lilys, answering calls, greeting you all, and taking care of your beloved pets.

Pictured here with Bob, is Pip - Amy's Mum! Pip also likes to spend time at home, looking after her lovely dog, Wilma, her five pet sheep and five pet ducks! Pip also helps here at Peace Lilys, collecting pets - either from their homes or following euthanasia at your veterinary practice, to come on their final journey with us.

We are sure you'll agree, these two scrub up rather well! We are grateful for you both 💝

Peace Lilys - meet the team 💝

We have recently welcomed a lovely new addition to the team, meet Pauline!

I have been working as a small animal vet for 32 years and moved to Exmoor to spend more time with my menagerie of pets. As a lifelong pet owner, I know how much our pets enhance our lives and strongly feel that a “good death” is as important as a good life. I have always put my own pets to sleep at home, in their own surroundings where they are happiest and most relaxed. I feel privileged to be able to offer this same service alongside Peace Lily’s - a kinder end for our best friend.

Thank you Pauline, for being a wonderful addition to the Peace Lilys team.

Peace Lilys - Meet the team 💝

At Peace Lilys, we feel honoured to work alongside Carly, who is one of our home euthanasia vets. Many of you may have met Carly under sad circumstances, but we are sure you'll agree that her compassion and kindness is something to treasure at such a heart breaking time. Thank you for all you do, Carly.

I am an experienced small animal vet, and have been working in clinical practice for 16years. I have always felt very strongly that saying goodbye to our beloved pets should be as dignified and peaceful as possible. For many people this means at home euthanasia, allowing their pet to be as relaxed as possible and passing in familiar safe surroundings. I am proud to work alongside Peace Lily's to provide a compassionate and loving last goodbye at home.

Peace Lilys - meet the team 💝

Amy is the founder and managing director of Peace Lilys. Many of you will recognise Amy already but we thought it would be nice to tell you a bit more about her!

With over 21 years in the veterinary industry, having qualified in 2006 with NVQ Level 3 in Veterinary Nursing, Amy is uniquely qualified to comprehensively assist you throughout the bereavement process, from the perspective of a RCVS registered veterinary nurse, trained bereavement support worker, and a mother.

As well as running Peace Lilys, Amy is Mum to her two boys - Fred and Milo. We mustn't forget the fur child, dear little Alfie!

Amy founded Peace Lilys when her beloved dog, Lily, unfortunately passed away. She had to drive for over an hour and a half to have her cremated, making for a heartbreaking and traumatic experience.

Thus, in 2022, Amy decided to found North Devon’s first and only local pet crematorium to save other grieving pet owners and families the heartache of enduring the long drive to locations outside of North Devon for an impersonal cremation.

Amy is extremely grateful for the support from all of Peace Lilys clients, past, present and future, as well as the support from her colleagues, friends and family. Without all of you, providing such a unique and wonderful service, wouldn't be possible.

Our website will be updated shortly with more details and prices.
In the mean time, should you sadly require this service, please call us on the usual number 07789 172327.
