In Flanders Fields
The poem by John McCrae
In Flanders' fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders' fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe;
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high,
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders' Fields.

πŸ“’ With the devastating news earlier this week that hedgehogs are now listed as 'near threatened' (i.e that they may become at risk of extinction in the near future) on the IUCN red list, it's more important than ever that we take measures to protect them.

If you're lighting a bonfire this year, please put hedgehogs – and other creatures that may see a pile of leaves, logs and branches as a cosy shelter – first.

Attending a bonfire? Share this advice with the organisers to help keep wildlife safe πŸ¦”
