Here’s a fact not many of you may know ! By law, an egg can be sold up to 30 days after the date it was put in the carton. And farmers have up to 30 days to go from when the egg is laid to the time it’s put in the carton and sold, That means supermarket eggs can be two months old by the time you buy them and have a sell by date of upto 4 to 6 weeks after that 😳 so the “ fresh eggs “ you are buying could be over 3 months old by the time you eat them 😩 it’s no wonder the free range eggs we eat and sell from our own happy little hens not only taste totally different but are full of goodness and nutrition due to there natural diet and being so fresh ❤️

An enrichment activity today for the chooks.
Just scrape a thin layer from where you'd like the chooks to carve and leave them to for a while. My chooks had fun today

"Raising chickens is more than just a hobby for me; it’s an experience that brings deep peace and joy. Every morning, their crowing feels like a warm welcome to the new day, and watching them run freely around the yard fills my heart with happiness. There's an irreplaceable sense of fulfillment in caring for them, feeding them, and ensuring their coop is cozy. In every moment I spend with them, I feel the presence of a simple yet meaningful life, teaching me lessons in patience, love, and sincerity."

Had some amazing and great boxes today. Here's some ladies off to their new homes in comfort.
To future rehomers, please consider these chickens have travelled a long way close to their feathery friends and need a bit of space to relax onward to their forever homes. They are quite large and require adequate carriers to travel home in.
These chooks were so well behaved today, such little beauties. Good luck to them all. Happy chickens 🐔 💓

Could you give a feathery friend a home?

We are a not for profit organisation, run entirely by volunteers who are dedicated to rehoming hens from the commercial egg production sector.

OUR AIM is to ensure as many people as possible are aware of the plight of the commercial hen, and demonstrate that there are alternatives to early slaughter.

OUR COMMITMENT is to rehome as many hens as we can into suitable homes, where they can live out the rest of their natural lives.

OUR GOAL is to educate the public about the ethical benefits of buying free range eggs, whilst supporting the work of British farmers. Commercially, all laying hens are slaughtered at the age of 72 weeks, when their production drops slightly. Their carcasses are worth very little and are usually sold for dog food, baby food or cheap, processed pies etc. We work closely with British farmers and purchase the hens from the caged, barn and free range systems, just before their slaughter date.
