The ideal time to start grooming puppy is after he has had all of his puppy shots. Don’t make the mistak
e of waiting until puppy is 6 months of age or older. You want your puppy to remember his first experience at the dog groomers to be an enjoyable one. The sooner you familiarise puppy with being groomed, the more comfortable your puppy will be during this time. Puppy should see this time as a fun time. Get him used to you touching his feet and between his toes so that when it’s time to clip, it will make things easier. Let him explore the brush and comb before you brush his coat. Praise him and give him a small treat after brushing. It will make him associate grooming time as a pampering treat time and not something he becomes to dread. Play with your puppy’s ears by touching them on the inside and outside. Always reward him after. The same goes for puppy’s teeth and gums. Dental care should begin as early as possible. Getting puppy used to all of these points will make the grooming experience stress free and he’ll see it as a treat rather than something he dreads.
