In the summer we often stop for a water, chill out break somewhere cool and shady on walks. I like to show dogs we can just do "nothing" for a few minutes. This is great for young over excited adolescent dogs who just need to switch off and decompress for a short time to take in their surroundings.
We usually have some water, a snack and some fuss if they want it.

This is me and GinGin having our "off" times a few weeks ago. She absolutely loves cuddles and scratches and will often close her eyes for a minute. This is brilliant given her breed and her drives.

Let's talk about Foxtails. (Spikey grass seed)

A dog walkers nitemare and today proved why I hate them so much as one of my KBK9s fell victim to these spikey little pests.

He sniffed one into his nose on our walk and was extremely distressed so we rushed to the vets where he had to have a general anaesthetic to remove it.

Lots of people do not know how dangerous these little things are and it's so important to check your dog after each walk to ensure these are not lurking in your dogs paws, ears, ge****ls and eyes. They can get nasty very quickly and need to be removed urgently.

I hope all my KBK9S have stayed cool today/this week in the heat.
Auntie Kim has been at the spa for her 40th Birthday, resting my legs for another summer of fun coming up with the dogs.
I will be in touch individually about walks/enrichment visits whilst we are having this heatwave. 🌞

Happy 3rd Birthday to the wonderful Watson.

It's also nearly our 3 year KBK9s anniversary too. There has been so much fun, so much training (adolescence done now phewww 😂), illnesses and injuries, so many miles walked and hours of cuddles and fuss in that time and I have (mostly 😂) loved every minute of it.
You are a whirlwind in the very best way. ❤️

I asked a few of the dogs if they wanted to make a wish with the fuzzy dandelions this week.
As you can tell by their faces the answer was no, apart from Digby who took a chomp 🤣.

I think what they were thinking was "I wish Aunty Kim would stop messing about and just give me a treat or something" 🌼

Nearly that time again 🌞

HOT WEATHER PROTOCOLS NOW IN PLACE.

Hot weather 🌞⛱️

With the weather expected to get very warm soon my hot weather protocols will now be in place.
I will review each day as it comes in terms of expected temperatures and humidity. On days it is deemed too hot to walk or for any of my very heat sensitive dogs, walking will be substituted for enrichment/comfort visits.

I will have frozen water toys, treats and will offer water play where available. Short shady walks will be offered alongside too if I think its OK to do so.

Please remember heat stroke kills dogs every year, but no dog has died from missing a walk 🐕

This is Pablo.
Pablo is a Romanian rescue with what I describe as an old man's soul. 😆

We believe Pabs has Livestock Gaurdian breed in his lineage such as Romanian Shepherd or similar.

Guardian breeds are known for their watchful eye of their stock and surveying their land for predators. This is so true of Pablo, on our walks he mostly just likes to go to a field and watch what he sees as "his land".
I used to worry Pablo wasn't getting enough from his walk, exercise wise but I've come to realise over the nearly 3 years that actually this is his enrichment and what he likes to come on his walk for.

Guardian breeds also spring into action with surprising speed when they need to and yep Pablo can do that too (as I found out a few weeks ago where he took of like a bullet at a dog he's not keen on which luckily there was no intention behind just super speedy).

We love old man (not old) Pablo. ❤️

Me and Cora had a short walk without mum for the 1st time today. She did so well and as soon as she started to feel a bit anxious we came straight home. This let's Cora know she can trust that I will understand her ques and won't put her under pressure. This is so important for our bond and to build a solid foundation of trust.

She let me put her lead on today without batting an eyelid and also laid as close as possible to settle next to me after walk. She initiated some fuss and even consented to belly rubs.

This is huge......the difference in 4 weeks is amazing.

This is the wonderful Cora who has joined KBK9S.
Cora is a little unsure of the human world sometimes and stuggles being away from Mum so we have been spending some weeks building trust and showing her I will always advocate for her space and safety.
Today we went for her 1st walk with mum with lots of rewards for being away from mum and showing her I can find her amazing treats on the way. She absolutely smashed it and she felt comfortable to have me walk her nearly the entire walk.

Onwards and upwards, soon be having some lovely independent walks.

Hi Everyone.
So most of you will know that sometimes my children accompany me on walks during the school holidays.
What me and the children would like to do in the upcoming holidays is help clean up the local area by litter picking while we are out and about dog walking. (Children will be picking while I do the dogs don't worry lol)

Do any of my lovely clients have any litter picking equipment they would like to donate to help us to do this?

We see so much rubbish laying around and it's such a shame to see and also sometimes very dangerous for our dogs to be around like glass etc.

Finally I have a blackberry forager 🤣. I'm always encouraging the dogs to do this but they usually look at me like "nope, I prefer the food in your pocket" I showed this to Copper a couple of weeks ago then due to the heat we didn't walk again until today so couldn't see if he was still interested. Safe to say he was. Yummy nature treats 😍

One of the hardest parts of being a dog walker.....having to say goodbye to any crew members. Today marks the last day of walks for the super sisters Dottie Dots and Luna baboona. We have had some lovely walks over the years and I will surely miss them dearly. I will see them again for occasional walks but for now it's goodbye. Be good girlie's 🥹

Happy New Year to all my amazing walking owners, class graduates and followers. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me the opportunity to spent time in the company of your lovely dogs and my followers for the likes, shares and interactions. 2022 was a year of growth for KBK9S alongside a whole year of coaching some amazing Puppies and Teens for Lupo Academy . Thank you to Tracey for the opportunity and trust for me to grow. Here's to 2023 and many many more miles of walking 😊

Spending lots of time building value to your proximity will get you walks that look like this. Little Dexi here is free to go play, run and sniff but will often choose to walk next me while she is off lead. It's important to still intermittently reward even once they freely offer this. Reward them for choosing proximity over the environment, especially in those tricky teens when the entire world is a distraction. Rewards can be something yummy, a praise and attention or a tuggy game and sending off to be a dog if they want to. I spend lots of time working on this with all of my KBK9S from our very 1st walk, I love that they choose to keep me company 😊

Golden Moments

Super proud gushy post Alert* Mr BM here is from the land of Romania and didn't have the best start to life until he landed on his feet with his new mum, dad and brother. He was/is quite worried about strangers so my 1st obstacle was getting him to trust me, its been nearly 9 months of building trust and a bond and its been worth every minute just for todays walk. It's taken lots of patience and time for him to come on walk with me, starting with just leaving the house and then the driveway. We progressed to slightly down the road and then around the corner, all baby steps. But finally we can go to the field and woods. Today he absolutely smashed it on his longline and was interacting with me through choice. He ended it with massive zoomies and amazing recall back again, he flopped down exhausted and wanting a belly rub which tells me he was confident and happy and not on high alert for strangers. This is my reward and makes all the effort and time 100% worth it 😊 Ps...I had happy tears today
