This gorgeous girl is Rio, a 3 year old Red Setter. Recently we have seen an increase in the number of vomiting and diarrhea cases, and Rio presented with these symptoms.

Rio had developed acute haemorrhagic diarrhea syndrome, which manifests as acute onset of large volumes of watery and bloody diarrhea. Rio was significantly dehydrated and required aggressive fluid therapy, monitoring of her electrolytes and medical management.
Due to the inflammation present in her intestine Rio developed a protein losing enteropathy, where protein leaked from her gastrointestinal tract into her abdomen. We managed this protein loss and Rio's reluctance to eat by placing an oesophageal feeding tube and feeding her a liquid diet until she was able to eat of her own accord.

Rio was intensively managed by the day and night teams and we were absolutely delighted when we were able to discharge her to continue her recovery at home.

The Hampshire Vet, an independent small animal practice in Basingstoke, is looking for an experienced vet to join our growing team.

Started as a mobile practice in 2022, we now boast hospital standard facilities and 21 team members, including a dedicated night team for out-of-hours veterinary care. We pride ourselves on delivering excellent, personalized care in a supportive and collaborative environment. We have also been shortlisted for a SPVS business excellence award for 2024.

We have digital Xray and dental Xray, Clarius ultrasound, full Idexx lab suite, EPOC and V-Check for pancreatitis, cortisol and titre testing. Our practice is visited by a cardiologist and orthopaedic surgeon.

Full-time (40 hours over 4 days) and part-time positions are available, with competitive salaries (£35-75k). Weekends are on an equally split rota (currently 1 in 5) with time off in lieu.

We have had an elderly female tabby cat handed in to us today, found in Rotherwick Lane. Unfortunately she is not microchipped. If you think this may be your cat please get in touch, we will need photo proof that she is yours.

Did you know today is Veterinary Receptionist Appreciation Day? And what a team we have! We couldn't be prouder of our client care team and the extra efforts they go to every day.

This team does so much more than answer phones, book appointments and process insurance forms.

They truly make an effort for patients to have an excellent experience by cuddling and playing with them in the waiting room, they are a shoulder to cry on for grieving owners, make sure to check up on clients that "are having an off day", are always keen to chat and give advice where possible, and make our practice a warm and welcoming place. They also know how to demolish a biscuit tin and pop a cup of tea into vets and nurses just when they need it the most.

So let's give them some love! We are truly lucky to have them. 👑🐶👑🐶👑🐶👑
