We always have the my puppies biting alot conversation in classes or 121s.

Puppies bite for several reasons, mostly related to their natural behaviour and development:

1. Teething: Puppies start teething at around 3 to 4 months old. Just like human babies, teething can be uncomfortable, so puppies bite and chew on things to relieve the discomfort.

2. Exploration: Puppies explore the world with their mouths. They use their mouths to investigate new objects, textures, and tastes.

3. Play: Biting is a normal part of how puppies play with each other. They don't have hands like humans, so they use their mouths to grab, wrestle, and play. When they bite during play with humans, they might not realize that their bites are too hard.

4. Learning Bite Inhibition: Puppies learn how to control the strength of their bites by playing with their littermates. If they bite too hard, their siblings might yelp and stop playing, teaching the puppy to be more gentle. When puppies interact with humans, they also need to learn bite inhibition.

5. Attention-Seeking: Sometimes puppies bite to get your attention. If they learn that biting gets them noticed, even if it's negative attention, they might continue the behaviour.

6. Overstimulation or Excitement: Puppies can get overstimulated or too excited during play, leading to more biting. They often haven't yet learned how to calm themselves down.

7. Communication: If a puppy is scared, anxious, or uncomfortable, they might bite as a way to communicate their feelings.

Training, socialization, and proper guidance are crucial to teach a puppy appropriate behaviour and how to use their mouth gently

I'm a force free trainer but like others trainer like good gaurdianship her, to some people it looks at like we give treats all the time.
When..
Force-free training is simply the method of training dogs without using force, coercion, threats, or intimidation or inflicting pain on the animal. This involves avoiding punishments or anything that invokes fear and panic, cause pain, or harm the dog in any other way

Just on of many thoughsto think over. Maybe when you next or looking for a trainer ?

Grass Darts are everywhere and I would normally put a chart up as a reminder but this year my pooch Zeus unfortunately has been a a unfortunate soul who has recently (12 days ago) had a very poorly paw where a dart went in from the bottom of his paw straight out the top but not before it was swallow, painful and got a vet visit for removal and flushing the wound.
We try to avoid them at all costs but that time of year there everywhere 😭
We normally check his feet but with a horrible year with lots of treatments and vet visits in may for pancreatius his become over sensitive to his feet and we sometimes get a little snappy, if we don't want our feet touched seems we missed one like everyone else were not perfect, but lucky we had pet insurance and we noticed the signs pretty quick to a unhappy paw.

So just a reminder for checking your dogs feet's and body for those pesky grass Darts.. it could mean be the difference between £0 to £600 vet bill minimum

So handling our dogs !! NO I don't mean stroking and petting but actually handling our dogs to be able to like now check feet for darts or other foriegn object , teeth for tlfetnal or brushing teeth, ear checks, a body for change in the skin or lumps/bumps.

SO conditioning is something we needed to start as soon as we get our pups and continue. It become familiar and normal , which will in time decrease the stress and worry to your pup about hands on being scary But remember we never force on our pups. We want them to be fun and POSITVE rewarding so take your time and build up the positive reward for this.
I alsways think this is great for then when your pup goes to the groomer or the vets as these will be familiar checks and touches as already going to the vets or groomers can be worrying for some pups already so being known oo thus isn't abnormal touching my feet or underage just strange person

Just for reason explained in the pdf below by dogtrainingcollege

It's definantly hot out there last few days so as normal every year a reminder . I don't want dogs in the heat, and different dogs, vary depending on ( i.e size and fur double down coats etc) on temperature to when I stop walks and change to pop ins. I never leave anyone in the van or car.

Our Gosport class are on week 5 amd we worked on bringing in value of being with us while we walk and introduced loose lead to our puppys. They were definatly challenging on this one, when outside with all the super sniffy smells patience and some focus games were also brought in that we have already taught our pups, which were super handy but when the exercises were took inside, all pups were on it again sometimes we need the level of distraction to be correct to learn and it's never wrong to go down a level and build back upto a high distraction again. Positive fun learning.
