This sunday, we spent our morning introducing 2 new teams to mantrailinguk. I always love owners and dogs turning up with the im not sure if they will get it, at the start, and by the end of the intro, all the dogs and owners are getting the game and are super motivated and having fun.
Know the signs of heat stroke!
Our wednesday puppy class was learning recall today and a refresh of our stay cue, we also talked about importance of recall while out walking with our dogs off lead.
Then they go to play after working in class
RECALL
It's always a conversation starter, it's used for so many reason. Not only to keeping our dogs from maybe a dangerous situation but maybe trying to avoid an area we want to avoid for nothing serious but for our personal preference like a dead animal or poop.
Being a trainer and a dog walker I have come across multiple dogs with various levels of recall. Some with none, some with hit and miss and I have meet dogs with excellent recall.
You can image which ones I preference when out walking with mine or clients dogs. It's not illegal to have your dog off lead at all and I happily allow this with the right dogs but not with others, but in the right place, in the right spaces and situations. I love nothing then allowing our dogs running sniffing and playing off lead just like others. But did you know the law..
It’s against the law to let a dog be dangerously out of control anywhere, such as:
in a public place
in a private place, for example a neighbour’s house or garden
in the owner’s home
What is Out Of Control:
Your dog is considered dangerously out of control if it:
injures someone
makes someone worried that it might injure them
A court could also decide that your dog is dangerously out of control if either of the following apply:
it attacks someone’s animal
the owner of an animal thinks they could be injured if they tried to stop your dog attacking their animal
Here is just some of my dogs showing off there recall while trying to avoid the distractions I the room 4 other dogs and loads of fun toys a d treats on the ultimate recall run... this is just 1 thing we teach in our puppys classes, Beginners classes, 121s training and workshops we do at Walkies with kat
FUN DOG SCENT FACT:
DID YOU KNOW? Dogs can smell 100,000 times better than us! Their sense of smell is so sensitive that they can detect half a teaspoon of sugar in an Olympic sized swimming pool.
How has your dog enjoyed the sunshine before the rain came back today. Share below your dog having fun in the sun 👇
Here is just a couple of our walkers enjoying the sunshine..
If I could pick one behaviour that important foundation to teach your dog, it would be eye contact.
I use eye contact a couple of ways in my day to day with my pups. It's a way for my dog to let me know he’s ready to work. Its also a way of gaining my pups' attention in distracting situations that i want to get passed or not get involved in.
For this to be a great training asset, you need to be marking and rewarding those times when the dog offers eye contact. Showing and proofing to the dog that eye contact is valuable, so this will encourage your dog to more likely offer it voluntarily rather than always just on cue.
The more the dog offers it, the more they get rewarded, and the more likely you are to get eye contact in more.
Its cold outside for sure and going to be colder with ice expected my pup wishes for snow , but Dont forget salt gritters will be out on the roads just a reminder don't forget to wash thise pooches paws. The salt grit is not dnagerous for our pooches it can lead to serious issues..

Tuesday night 3 teams went out mantrailing with us. It was high wind of 27 to 32km/h little bit drizzly rain. In one of our local park areas there was plenty to challenge our teams we had the ducks, ponds that help travelling of the scent, multiple texture changes on under our dogs feet. We shortened our trails for the weather and we even took in to account we might see different body language than normal. Each team did great taking on all the factor
Yesterday we caught up with Milo, who attended sniffer dog workshop at his home. To work on a few manners his picked up through his adolescents now his 4 nearly 5yrs old. So we taught him how all 4 paws on the floor is better than 2, we talked about consistantcy and praising / clear communication especially when he does the right thing .
And finally brushed up his loose lead walk. He did such great job showing us he doesnt need to jumping. i can't wait to see him again to see how his getting on.
