TONIGHT: An American Werewolf in Basingstoke

It’s Tuesday night, the streets are quiet, the moon is up, and somewhere in the dark you can see Bonus’s eyes glowing red beneath his collar. He’s locked in and ready to lead the pack.

That’s right, it’s Urban Packwalk night. If you see a group of shadows and wagging tails moving through Basingstoke after dark, don’t worry — it’s not a horror movie, it’s just the K9 control crew stretching their legs.

Expect howls, heavy breathing, and one or two suspicious sniffs at shop windows. If you hear claws on pavement and heavy breathing behind you, don’t panic its probably Rob trying to keep up.

See you under the streetlights, pack.

"We simply cannot recommend K9 Control enough! In just 9 sessions, and a handful of pack walks, Peggy has made an incredible transformation. It is no exaggeration to say that Rob has changed all 3 of our lives.

Before K9 Control, Peggy was an anxious, aggressive, unpredictable dog. She lived in a very small world, spending minimal time outside as she was reactive to dogs, cars, all kinds of environmental noises, and generally just of unsure how to be. As a result, we only walked her twice a week, with walks limited to private fields - it was stressful and overwhelming for all of us, and any encounter with another dog was explosive. She would be so heightened and frantic in our garden, that even toileting was a real struggle. Peggy would shake, drool and cower at the sound of very distant gunshots/crow scarers, and on one occasion jumped on the roof of the car in attempt to escape them, and wouldn't come down. Peggy had to wear a 'blindfold' and have music on constantly in order to tolerate any car journeys. If she saw a dog within 50 feet of the car she would become absolutely frantic, rocking the car, thrashing around into the windows, and constantly barking.

Now, we enjoy walking Peggy twice a day, she enjoys the outside world, and she's so much more relaxed for knowing the rules. She walks off lead with other dogs. She enjoys the car, and is non-reactive to everything she can see and hear during journeys. Last weekend, we took Peggy to a clayshoot, and she calmly sat and listened to gun shots at close range for over an hour. In short, her transformation under the guidance of Rob at K9 Control has been notning short of staggering.

Throughout the process, Rob has been amazing. He is consistent, super clear in his instructions, and always calm. Rob took Peggy on when other trainers and behaviourists wouldn't, and had the resources and knowledge to help us. We believed in the process and where we are now is night and day from where we started. We will forever be grateful to Rob and the gang"

“Not every rescue dog was abused. Some were just aresholes—and that’s why they got dumped.”

There’s no excuse for dangerous behaviour.

You provide safety.
You provide shelter.
You provide food, comfort, and a second chance.

But if you’re allowing lunging at dogs, people, or children—what exactly are you rescuing?

Let’s be clear:
*Rescue doesn’t mean rehab without rules.
*Trauma isn’t a hall pass for predatory behaviour.
*Compassion without boundaries is just chaos in a collar.

If your dog’s a liability in public, it’s not “just his past.” It’s your present responsibility.
You don’t fix dangerous behaviour with cuddles and hope. You fix it with clarity, structure, and accountability.

Stop romanticising dysfunction. Start training the dog in front of you.

Let’s Talk Suppression

People throw the word around like it’s toxic.
“Corrections suppress behaviour — that’s unethical.”
But here’s the thing: suppression just means stopping something.
That’s the actual dictionary definition.

So if a dog’s chasing livestock, ignoring recall, or launching at strangers —
you want that behaviour stopped.
That’s not abuse. That’s responsibility.

And guess what?
Food suppresses disengagement.
Praise suppresses uncertainty.
Pressure suppresses impulsivity.
Every method suppresses something.
The difference? One makes people feel good. The other makes them uncomfortable.

But training isn’t about your feelings.
It’s about the dog’s clarity.

You don’t build reliability by avoiding discomfort.
You build it by teaching the dog what works, what doesn’t, and what matters.

If suppression’s the problem, then so is every form of influence.
And if that’s true, then training doesn’t exist.

“You shouldn’t correct behaviors—just redirect them.”
Oh, brilliant.
So when a dog’s lunging at a child, I’ll just toss a treat and hope he remembers sit from puppy class.

Redirection without consequence is like trying to steer a speeding car with a feather.
It’s passive. It’s vague. And it teaches nothing.

Dogs don’t need distraction.
They need direction.
They need clarity.
They need to know: “That’s not okay—and here’s what is.”

Correction isn’t cruelty.
It’s communication.
And if your training plan relies on redirection alone,
You’re not training—you’re tiptoeing.
