Antimicrobial resistance has grown in recent years, both in human and veterinary medicine. This can be caused by using antibiotics when they’re not needed, or disposing of unused medication unsafely (e.g. in household waste or down sinks/toilets) which can affect water quality and wildlife 🚯
To ensure antibiotics continue to be effective well into the future, it’s important that they are used and disposed of with caution.
If you have any veterinary antibiotics that have expired or are left over from courses prescribed to your pets, please bring them with you to your next appointment with us. They can be handed over to our team who will dispose of them safely.

Ever wondered what we see under the microscope? 🔬
These are harvest mites! They’re a member of the arachnid family and can cause discomfort for our canine and feline friends, typically during late summer and autumn.
Signs of harvest mites include:
- Itching, biting or licking an affected area
- Skin lesions (vary from crusted spots to patches of hair loss to bleeding areas)
They’re reddish/orange in colour but are only around 0.2mm long, so can be tough to spot with the naked eye. If you spread the fur of your dog or cat and notice a red or orange ‘dust’ attached to the hairs or skin, this could be harvest mites.
