Gorgeous Axel is known at St Kitts Vets Basingstoke for always showing us some of his best excited wiggles 🐶

He recently popped in to see the team for his final post-op check after having a procedure where he was neutered and his urethral prolapse was corrected. The prolapse had been causing lots of bleeding, but we’re happy to report that after surgery, his privates looked like new!

The team at Crookham Park all have a soft spot for Mimi!

She was recently in to have part of her toe amputated to resolve an issue caused by bumblefoot – a condition where a wound on a bird’s foot becomes infected.

Vet Zofia carried out surgery to remove the tip of Mimi’s toe while nurse Morgan monitor her anaesthetic throughout. She has since been doing really well and is increasingly using her foot as normal 🥰

Have you checked your pet’s skin recently? 🐾

Skin conditions are one of the most common cases seen in general practice – in fact, around 32% of canine cases are skin-related!

To ensure you pet is happy and healthy, it’s important to keep an eye on their skin and take note of any unusual changes, such as excessive itching or an unpleasant odour.

📞 If you do suspect any issues, get in touch with your local practice to book an appointment.

Vet Anna made a little rat-sized medical shirt to protect the wound and he’s been managing brilliantly! He’s even customised the shirt with his own teeth too 🤣

Let us introduce you to the beautiful Dotty, who is owned by our receptionist, Hannah 🐶

Dotty was suffering from brachycephalic ocular syndrome – very large eyes, tear staining and slightly inward turning eyelids. To help with this, our very own eye guru, vet Anna, performed a procedure known as a medial canthoplasty at our Basingstoke practice.

This helped to make the eye openings smaller to protect them and prevent any future issues, including tear staining.

Dotty is now around 9 months post-op and, as you can see from the first two photos, her tear stains have completely cleared! 🥰

🐾 June is National Microchipping Month 🐾

It’s a great time to remind all pet owners of the importance of microchipping and ensuring your details are complete and up to date on a government compliant database.

Unlike collars and tags, microchips will last a lifetime and give the best possible chance of reuniting you with your furry friends, should they get lost or stolen.

Microchipping is available at all St Kitts branches. It’s even included with our Pet Healthcare Plans! To book an appointment, please get in touch:

Boss was brought in to see the team at Crookham Park Vets after eating rat poison 😖

Unfortunately, many forms of these rodenticides have a palatable flavour that attracts animals, so they can look like a tasty snack to your pup.

📞 If you suspect your dog has consumed rat poison, call your vet or out of hours immediately.

Symptoms will depend on how much, and the type of poison that has been eaten. The most common types stop your dog’s blood from being able to clot properly, which can cause bleeding from anywhere on the body (most commonly seen from gums, nose or faeces/urine).
